Are we able to (anyhow) share in this joy by hearing (or using) those sounds ?

Hey Put .... wazzzzup? I'm workin my fingers to the bone this weekend .... converting NDK files, then building some new instruments with dsoundtool ... but I'll put up a demo in the next week or so. I've come from the VH-12 type response of the TD-20X .... and frankly that is a pretty darn nice responding HH .... I can honestly say now though that the D5 HH can have marvelous playability with the right dsnd files.... IMO the biggest problem is the lack of samples/transitions in the stock HH .dsnd files ... after building a couple with 5 middle transitions and the max no of files for each zone allowed on the drumit 5 .... I'm smilin! I would say my HH is now equal to or better than the response of the VH-12 on the TD-20X ... and the sounds are ..... well ..... REAL!

As far as sharing dsnd's ..... I guess that is a good topic for discussion .... I could definitely see sharing files between members that own the particular sample pack used .... But that is kind of shakey ground with VST's cause I've already read that companies like BFD, and Superior wouldn't even want us doing that! So, I'll leave that topic for another thread ..... OK, got 1 HH I am totally pleased with so far..... a couple nice snares ..... time to play with a kick or 2 .... later, J

I am thinking of getting a 2box kit from Canada but cannot test it. Can someone post a recording of tight 16th notes on the hi hat in funk pattern also the timbales? I have not heard a demo yet that makes me think the hi hat is smooth enough.

The Roland ones play very smooth but only sound good when connected to VST software.

Hi Peter: As you know I've been a hold out from VST/PC drumming ... I have waited, hoping a drum module solution would offer something that was of quality in the sampled drums arena. HH was my no. 1 lowpoint on Drumit 5.... till last night and this morning .... I have created my own HH .dsnd files from NDK samples and the results are EXCELLENT .... the smoothness problem is not really in the HH itself, it is in the HH sound samples and their lack of sufficient transitions/samples ... I now have HH's with 5 transition zones in between full closed and full open (with a minimum 16 velocity levels per transition)... besides foot chick and foot splash..... I can now honestly say my HH is better IMO than my VH12 type response I get with the TD-20X (and sounds "real") ... 16th notes and 32nd notes not a problem. I'm very very busy this weekend beginning the process of building my own High quality sampled sounds adding to the 2Box offerings. In the next week or 2 I'll put up a demo of where I've come so far. This did cost me an extra $129 so far to add the NDK samples to work with.... but absolutely worth it. This Open sound source on Drumit 5 removes a lot of limitations to getting quality sounds ... especially with the 32GB card mod I did .... I am actually in danger of becoming a 2Box Fanboy! :o J

Kudos to Slap the Drummer for blazing a trail ..... I wouldn't even have realized the potential if he hadn't generously posted his helpful threads. I'm paying for it .... but not disappointed!

I'm dancin here .... oh yeah ..... 3rd time's a charm .... my first 2 HH sound building attempts were .... eh ..... OK ..... but I am starting to get the hang of this sucka now .... I just built a 292MB HH based on the 13" NDK stk HH .... Full open, Fully closed, 5 middle transitions plus foot splash and foot chick .... and it sounds marvelous ..... thanks Slap .... finally hearing what I was lookin for and getting a response I can predict on the HH transitions ..... lovin this .... been at it all day ... but time well spent .... Cool .... J ;D

Big TWO THUMBS UP for your input Slap!!!
SCARY ....yup, I'm Sample Illiterate.... So the whole process was with fear and trembling. I bought NDK last night. Downloaded the trial of Sound Forge this morning ...... 1st off .... the amount of samples in the NDK pack is .... well ... let me put it this way .... I started the download of NDK last night about 11 or 12 midnite ... don't remember exactly. What I do know is I have a fairly fast Net connection ... so I thought nothin of it .... about 3 in the morning the download and installation was done ..... just a whole sh_tload of high quality wave files!!!

I've sent Slap plenty of questions .... but mostly it is just a question of going through the conversion and dsnd building process the first time ..... then it is a piece of cake ....  after creating my first snare .... my second one only took a couple minutes .... OK, I'm gonna work on creating a bunch of new snares, HH's, toms and kicks ....

I've only built 2 14" snare so far, one mtl. one Rock ... but already I have forgotten about the $$$ investment .... not sorry a bit.
With Louis' Dsoundtool the whole process now is relatively painless .....
Plus One more fan for the NDK samples .... glad for the addition.....

And big thanks to Slap .... you da drummer MAN :animal: J

Thanks developer for this update.

Good work so far. I like the parametric Eq  Section. This could be very helpful to filter some bad frequencies or to manipulate a sound very effective. Also the  HiHat midi bugfixes are great when using 2Box with Logic an something like SuperiorDrummer. But I have found an issue when using my 32Gb SD Card.
After Bootsequence i get an Message: "Unaligned Cluster"!  I hope that tis is not a new feature of 1.20 to avoid using bigger sd cards ;-).

Best wishes

MarkuZ

I've been using this new beta OS with the same 32GB card as you with no problems at all ... so I would think it must be something else causing your boot error.

To me it is a nice change to have a drum module that is being supported with OS updates and improvements as well as additional sampled sounds being added for $0 .... That gets a huge TWO THUMBS UP from me .... So I would be happier if Drumit 5 continues to be the focus of 2Box for now. There are plenty of electronic drummers using other brands of edrum modules that make lists on the internet of what features they want in the next module, but those Edrummers know that they probably will not be getting any OS upgrades for free (maybe one expansion card or OS update before the next module release), probably no new sounds for free, and the only way they will be getting the features they want will be to buy the next model.

So for me I just hope as many of the upgrades that can be initiated into Drumit 5 will continue to come along and more sound samples (One pet peave: we do desparately need HH .dsnd's with more transitions, 10 or more instead of 4) .....
and I sincerely give a Hat's Off cheer to they way this company is supporting their product and customers .... a rare and well appreciated way of doing business! :patbat2box: :drum3: :drum2: :drum1:  J

I'm interested in JMan temporary footswitch solution.  Can you please possibly write step-by-step instructions?

You misunderstood.... not possible presently with 2Box .... I was talking about other brand modules. Even on other brand modules trigger parameters are universal, not by kit, but some modules have multiple trigger banks .... still universal to all kits, but more than one bank, so in that case you can switch trigger banks, and each bank can be set up for different type triggers, different parameters.   So you could have one bank set up to trigger max velocity, one with your normal trigger response, etc...

It would be good in a next update to add the possibility to load different config files "DrumIt.dkit".
The parameters of the menu UNIT and KIT should be placed on two differents files. We could so load new kits or a new pad configuration.
IDW(*), of course.

(*): If Deve Wants

Now that idea I LIKE! .... this would also be a work around for having more than 100 kits. Do modifications to any or all kits ..... and save those mods while still being able to revert back to originals.

Right now I have come up with my own work around for having a set of kits to mod while keeping the originals. Since I did the exterior card slot, i am setting up multiple cards... a few extra bucks, but worth it IMO.

as Slap said, universal, not per kit. This is not only 2Box though, this is how all the different drum modules work, at least all the ones I have owned. In some modules there are multiple trigger banks for different settings ... trigger bank 1, 2, 3, etc. , so with a click or 2 of a button or footswitch you could do what you are thinking about, in a slightly dif way, but still doable. This might be a possibility for a software upgrade for Drumit 5, but I'm not sure. For me though there are more important features than that I would rather see implemented. I had multiple trigger banks available in my other modules and barely used the feature. That is a nice feature when using the same drum module for multiple drummers though or different kits with multiple brands of pads.

Don't waste your money on this one:

After countless times trying to format, finally formatted it didn't work .... NO OS error .... thinking it was a bad file or ??? I reformatted and loaded everything again ... over and over... I finally got the thing working ... then removed it from the module, put it back in and got the error again .... I finally figured out,  more or less ... that something is funny with the way it fits physically ... or the lock tab ... cause I could wiggle it ... move the lock tab back and forth ... etc... and get it to work, hit or miss though .... so stay clear is my advice .... trying to save $5 ... basically is costing me $95, by the time I purchased a different card ... $45 for that one and $50 for the Transcend 32GB that I already know works!  Fortunately this Centon works in my dig. mini camcorder .... but I didn't need one for that :'(

I bought a new sound system to use to play my 2box kit live a few days ago, a QSC KSub and a K12, and was going back over my kits, readjusting some of them and I "lost" a few sounds. What I mean is, the sounds load and are listed in the brain, when I hit the pad it registers on the corresponding button on the brain, but no sound comes out. One in particular I remember is the VFL 15 Snare Amb.dsnd . When I play a kit with that snare in it and then change the snare sound to something different it will change, and make the sound of the new snare. When I go to a kit where everything works and change the snare to the VFL 15 Snare Amb.dsnd it no longer makes any sound for that snare. This has happened on a couple other sounds too. I don't know WHAT I did to change it, but I went back in the DRUM settings and made sure all the volumes were up, same on the UNIT settings.
How can I get these back? Is there some other setting I should check? Is there some kind of factory reset, and if so will it overwrite the "extra" sounds I downloaded and copied to the 32G memory card I installed previously?
Thanks,
Snyde

What I did both before and after loading the new card and new sounds is make a backup of everything. I highly recommend that. I have since messed up a couple things and just went back to the PC and module/card, deleted the bad .dsnd on the card and reloaded the backup .dsnd.
Email sent. J

mate i opened my kit in the editor, i changed the hihat sound to yours, i saved it and went to the kit to check it and the new sound wasnt there. any ideas about that?
All I did was put his .dsnd file in the Hi Hat sound folder with all the rest of the HH .dsnd's . That's all you have to do. Then when you want to test just exchange that sound for the Hi Hat.

Yeah Graham, nice sounds .... which kit, or instruments are you using? Details please... nice.

Another set of multivelocity samples in wav format - to buy  :(

http://www.voxengo.com/group/drum-samples/#acd-hh14-sb-hh-r

It has the advantage that you can buy just an individual bit of a kit if you
prefer - eg nearly 1400 different Hi-hat samples for 15usd.

There are individual demo samples clearly laid out on the page, so it's easy to find
out if you like them.

Thanks for the tip. I just bought the HH and the Maple Snare, thought I'd start with that ... especially the HH ... Jerry
