Hi - can anybody help me with this.  I don't really understand how things like midi and Superior
drummer work....

...... and apologies if it has already been mentioned in one of the big threads but they were over
my head.

If I had some kind of package like Superior Drummer, can I use the software to directly generate
WAV files??

What I mean is - does it have something like a "SAVE AS" function, so I program (say) a sequence of
hits of increasing velocity, press a button and hey presto! wav files.

Or would I have to send an output and then loop back into my laptop and actually record the output?

Could somebody give me a quick overview of what the set up wd be like if you're only aim was to
generate wav files for conversion to DSND and you didn't want to have to use the kit to trigger
anything.

Many thanks

Daniel

its totally easy.

just generate a midi file with dsoundtool. copy it into your DAW and export it to a wav. file.

then convert the wav. file(s)  with dsountool again to DSND files.

i use reaper and it only takes a few seconds.

cheers,
dan

Hi Dan -

thanks!  I think I get it.....

would this work with Kontakt 4 player (free) then?  Is that a DAW??

I don't mind experimenting but I am hoping to avoid spending hours trying
to do something that turns out to be impossible because I got hold of the
wrong end of the stick!

reaper is a DAW you can try it out for free: http://www.reaper.fm/

i dont know for sure, but i think superiour does not work with kontakt.

Reaper looks good!  I only mentioned Kontakt because I saw it was free.....

I can't see how to tell which drum packages will work with reaper tho....
I liked the look of Native Instruments Abbey Road sets.

thanks

all VSTĀ“s work with reaper. but for abbey roads you have to run kontakt IN reaper.

thanks Dan - one last point !

remembering that I only want to generate WAV files with software, not use the
kit to do any triggering....

if I got superior drummer do I also need a DAW?? I can't really make head or tail of
what all these things do and don't do.

cheers

Daniel

yes you will need a DAW to run superiour drummer, and to put in the midi file to convert.

thanks Dan - I feel clearer now about what I'm looking at

logihack

Hi - I looked at this too.  As far as I could make out the answer is no.  The NI set-ups seem to be
designed to actively stop anybody making their own sets of wavs.  But that is just what I concluded
and not definite fact !
