Hi, Scott you might be best to try and answer this?

Does 2box have a MIDI map for use with BFD? I'm struggling to set up manually as the documentation appears to be wrong... and so does BFD?

In the manual it says that the kick is on note C2
In the Brain it says the kick is C0
If I use the learn function in BFD (you press this then the pad you want to assign) it says C1

So I am very confused... also it's not easy to figure out which notes chokes are or rims of drums, as it seems there is no consistency between the 3 areas?

Anyone shed any light?

Thanks
Neil

Hi Neil

Ok i got a reply from the guys at 2box about your question, and here it is:

Assign the MIDI note numbers according to the Manual.
Choke is not working in 0.36. So forget the note numbers in the Unit just follow the Manual.

Does this help at all to solve your issue?

Thanks
Scott

NeilC

I will give it a try tonight!

Thanks Scott.

Scottie

No problem Neil.

Let me know how you get on with it  ;D

Thanks
Scott

I can't belive they released the kit with an os that isn't even version 1.00 xD. Very happy that they did though, my patience was seriously wearing thin and it's working fine anyway ;).

I think the reason is, they delivered only Test-Sets for shops til now...

OK... tested with Kick

Opened Cubase, opened BFD, sorted MIDI inputs and outputs
Turned on Brain, went to Unit, Conf, Kit.

Here's the issue: Brian says C0, Manual says C2.
I put in C0 in the BFD map for the kick and nothing triggers, I use the Learn function in BFD and it picks up C1.

Snare is same. Brain says D0, Manual says F2, BFD Learn says D1.

So there is some confusion somewhere?

Hi Neil

Right something doesn't seem quite right does it. Leave it with me and i will see what i can find out for you  :)

Thanks
Scott

NeilC

Hi Scott, any progress on this?

Cheers

fishmonkey

to cut one thing out of the equation, i'd suggest using a MIDI spying app to see what actual MIDI messages you are getting from the Brain...

good free options are MIDI Monitor for the Mac, or MIDI-OX for Windows...

then you can at least build yourself a map of what is where while you wait for an update to the Brain software...

Ah, Thta's good thinking Fishmonkey! Will give it a whirl.

NeilC

OK I gave MIDI-OX a whirl, a very neat little application.... my findings:

I am confused how the zoned cumbals work.... ie I would assume that each zone refers to a MIDI note? so I found that I can change the note for the 'crash' of the cymbal, but I cannot figure out how to change the note for the Bell?

Also similar for the skins and rims, I think I managed to sort this, but it;s not too clear.

Also somewhere between my kit and BFD, the MIDI notes are being transposed because what I dial in on the kit doesn't correspond woth the note in BFD learn function.

Scottie any chance of an update on this?

Thanks
Neil

Scottie
