I've been playing this module for four months with a set of Roland pads and I'm tired of the micro-latency, very weak but really disturbing and spoiling all the pleasure of natural playing. I don't read any complaint in this sense, I deduce that it is perhaps the internal SD card of my module which would be the culprit. What do you think ? And which SD card is recommended if it's the one that needs to be changed?

There's a lot of discussion about the latency issue on this site, but maybe you missed it. There's a good summary of the things you can try in Lustar's FAQ for SDSE, see the section "2box DrumIt: How can I solve latency issues when playing bigger kits from BFD3 or SD3?" here: https://www.lustark.com/support?catid=1

If tweaking the trigger settings doesn't help, there's a possibility that the SD card is bad. In that case, try another SD card that has the "A1" category label.

If replacing the SD card does not help, it's unfortunately possible that there's nothing you can do about it. I tried pretty much every tweak that we could think of, but in the end, I just couldn't get VST kits to play perfectly. I had no problems with 2box's own samples though.

Hi!

", I just couldn't get VST kits to play perfectly. I had no problems with 2box's own samples though."

As Deve-Loper, I still cant get that. Weird SD cards I have seen too, but why stock sounds (and sone of them pretty large) would play fine, but sdse ones not, doesnt make sense.
The dsnd format is pretty straight forward, so only thing I can think of is delay / silence before attack  baked in the samples.

But then it must be consistant for that /those vel layers. I have  an editor where I can see all details.
So  if you want to, wetransfer me a file. Pm me.
Best, Deve.

thank you for your answers. I am using samples that I have carefully edited myself, samples taken from my vst and Cockos Reaper banks available on www.tchackpoum.fr . So it would be the internal sd card that would cause this latency that I will have to change. I can't find a new sd card with the references advised on the forum topic. In October 2022 which sd card should I take? Thank you!

Deve Loper

Hi Vincent. Could be sd card. I tested many long ago, not all are good.
As I am not involved with DI3, I dont know what they use. Its built in so no easy access.
Maybe do this sd card extension thing and try a few.

Yes, I have seen your TchPoum, really nice!

Best, Deve.

If I understood correctly, the type of SD card is the same on both 2box versions, it is only the capacity that changes. Therefore I will take the opportunity to increase it. 4GB for such large samples is a bit tight if you want choice. It would be nice to see an update on the preference and compatibility references posted on this forum. All these SD cards mentioned are no longer available for purchase new in stores, and it is even difficult to find them on the net, at least in Europe, particularly in France. There is always a small difference in the reference name that makes me hesitate to order. I also asked 2box about it via facebook but I still don't have an answer on this subject. However, this is not a negative review, I had quick answers on another subject, 2box's customer service seems to me to be rather reactive.
Concerning Tchackpoum, when I will be fully satisfied with my editions, I will publish patches for 2boxes of my drums.

Just so you're aware, if you put a larger SD card into a DI3 whether internally or via a card reader, do not use USB mode to transfer sound files.
I cannot remember the exact reason why but, it's a big no no. Potentially damaging the hardware.

Wow ! thanks for the info ! I'll settle for a 4GB! Apparently the change is simple but it would invalidate the manufacturer's warranty. that is very annoying.

Are you also getting Latency with the factory sounds?

Accessing a 32/64GB card over the USB connection doesn't damage the module, it just corrupts the card I thought?

Anyway if you want to do the mod I highly recommend the kit on https://zourman.com/product/2box-64gb-card-mod-kit/

This way you have reliable pre-tested card. Then all you need to buy is a basic USB SD Card reader for your PC.

The card mod would be a no brainer for me, but then I have a Drumit 5 MKII.

maybe you're right. but Jman and 2box really advised that using USB mode with a 32g card was a bit no no!

Hi. Original card was built in, I reckoned (correctly) that users buying their own could be difficult.
At the time (2009!) 4 GB was s lot. So USB code was for that.
After DI5 original, I was not involved anymore and the code wasnt fixed for bigger cards.
Indeed, an OS seeing a larger card thru USB will get mixed up. Card R/W errors, no hardw damage.
Best, Deve.

Unfortunately yes the latency is on all kits. That's what makes me suspect the SD card. I will definitely have to send the module back to 2box, that would be wiser. It may be risky to toast the guarantee out of impatience ;)

Just chiming in here. Have you actually measured the latency? I'd do that first, but just my $0,02.

I can't give a precise figure, it's more a feeling compared to another module that I practiced for a long time. It's barely noticeable when you hit three quick shots. It's a very low latency, like with a cheap sound card, asio4all with ezdrummer on a pc, it works but it's quickly tiring. I realized this during the first rehearsals, although on my first attempts I had perceived a gene. I risk saying something stupid but it may be around 20 ms
