Converting DSND to wav creates higher pitch
« on: September 30, 2020, 06:15:42 PM »
Im trying to convert a dsnd to wav to use in my spd-sx
I´ve tried to just rename the .dsnd file to .wav and listen to it and import the .dsnd in Audacity.
But when I listen to it it´s much higher in pitch than when i play the sample in the 2box drumit editor
Anybody knows why this appears and is there anything to get it in same pitch?

You can try to export the dsnd with the http://shortestpath.se/dsoundtool/...and if it handles the issue in a better way.

A dsnd file includes a sample reference Parameter how 2box should handle them when replaying them - so you are able to pitch them up or down...and I think the DSound tool handles this when exporting to wave.

Another secret...when dealing DSND files...you dont need to rename them into wave...you can just drag and drop them into Audacity.

Anders is right except I don't think DSoundTool restores the pitch. DSound Manager (my program) can extract from dsnd to wav and restore the original pitch. It can batch extract if you need to extract a whole kit or all your dsnd and can reverse the order of the filenames in case you need the .wav files to be in a different order for your spd-sx.

When a dsnd has the tune up capability the samples it contains are pre-tuned so when using Audacity you would need to adjust the pitch down by the same amount of semitones as the tune set in the dsnd to get back the original pitch. It's the maximum setting you can use when increasing the Tune setting on the module, it's displayed at the bottom in DSoundTool, or on the right when you double click on a dsnd with DSound Manager.

If needed there's also a way to increase the max tune of existing dsnd files in DSound Manager, on the Tune page. So if for instance you have some toms or cymbals and would like to tune them up higher on the module you can create new versions with a higher maximum tune up.

Sorry for not including dsound manager (too much dsound...in my head) ...the DSound Manager this is the right stuff for the work! (Which is included in the marvelous DKIT Manager package)
