I have also these problems with the rims so when I hit the rim of tom1 tom2 or tom3 they crosstalk together with cymbal 2.How can I solve this problem? for the rest I don't have any problems with my set. So iam very happy with the 2box set.

Set threshhold, and be carefull with the gain!

it's important to realise that you shouldn't be using the trigger settings to make particular kit pieces sound louder or quieter.

the trigger settings should be tweaked to their optimum values to give you a full range of trigger values for your playing style without double-triggering or crosstalk. once you find the best trigger settings, normally you should not need to edit them again (unless you play quiet jazz one night and slamming metal the next and you want to maintain dynamics).

if, for example, if you find the snare sounds too quiet on a particular kit, you should be editing the kit itself and raising the volume of the snare sound, not raising the trigger gain.

About that... my kick plays extremely low. I had to set it to GAIN+18 to hear it good. Is this bad?

Experiment with curves and volume instead?

fishmonkey

i haven't played around with it much, but i have my kick trigger gain at about 13.

when i have some time i will try changing the tension of the head and tweaking the beater height to improve the response.

Will try with the beater height! Sounds like a good idea to lower it a bit!

Your gain should be nowhere near 18 man.  My bass drum is set to gain 0, threshold 30 and its fine with a normal curve.  You guys need to take into account also what you are listening through - headphones or home speakers or an amp.  If you are using any of these things then the quality just might not be good enough or your headphones aren't able to reproduce the frequency properly - this is also possible?

As Fishmonkey points out, these settings shouldn't need to change once they are set in the UNIT pages - if you need a tweak do it in the KIT page.  Your global mix should also be set correctly under the UNIT page, make sure they are all at the right levels.

i wonder if my kick drum triggering is faulty, since i use a positive2 curve with gain at around 13 to get a decent response...

Firstly do you mean its not sensitive enough or not loud enough or both?  Secondly, what are you listening through?

fishmonkey

not sensitive enough. i noticed this when i first set the kit up. where do you have your beater hitting the head?

i mostly monitor through HD 280 Pros (the 64 ohm model), or sometimes through my audio interface and near field monitors.

Have you got the specs for the headphones?  They sound fine but maybe require a headphone amp to drive?  I'm using Legacy PH 250's, everything is plenty lound without the need for a seperate headphone amp:

   *  Element: Dynamic
   * Speaker Dimension: 53mm
   * Impedance: 60?
   * Sensitivity: 99dB
   * Frequency Response: 20Hz~20kHz
   * Power Handling Capability: 500mW
   * Adaptor Plug: Stereo 3.5mm -> 6.3mm

My beater is hitting near the bottom of the foam in the centre of the base drum.

Sounds like your phones are more than capable frequency wise.  Perhaps they just need more juice?

fishmonkey

there's no problem with my monitoring, it's the triggering.

i just tried lowering the beater to the centre of the kick head, and that has improved the response. the thing is, i would need to saw some of the beater rod off to have it at that height, as it is far too long.

the metal rod on my kick beater is about 16cm long. this means the beater hits the head about 2/3rds of the way up the head.

how long is your beater rod?

How do I do that? Ive got the set now 1 day so Iam learning to work with it.

puttenvr

Press UNIT
and scroll (arrow) down to UNIT - TRIGGER
there they are: treshold and level

Experiment a little with those 2

I have the same problem than hwasser.
I had to set the gain of my kick drum at least to 18 to ear some decent sound in my headphones.
However if I hit the kick pad with my finger in the hole part the sound is very good with a threshold  set to 0.
I have moved the beater position and now is very close to the trigger at the lower part of the foam (I can't place it closer) and now I have a decent sound with a threshold set to 8.
Baby Samus I really don't know how can you have a decent sound with the kick and a threshold set to 0?
The piece of foam behind the mesh head looks very hard and seems to choke the trigger.
Is this a pad problem?

Edit : can't find any more the topic of a user who remove the piece of foam of the kick pad. help!! :)
