I'm thinking about painting the orange a different color.  My painter recommends powder coating but asked if the orange is powder coat.  If so it will same me a significant amount of money as you can powder coat over powder coat.  Anyone know?

Not sure, but I do know that the UK distributor told me about a few customers who took their shells to auto wheel places to have them repainted.

with proper sanding, tack cloth, and primer you can get a nice finish just from a rattle can. Of course a friend with an HVLP or similar is even better.

There is a you tube video of a kid in the UK who painted the pads and the brain black, No closeups but it looks amazing. In the comments he mentioned he used powder coat in mirror black.  I am planning on real acoustic drums to trigger but if I was playing out I would totally go powder coat mirror black. I would not have thought of having someone do it. I would rough up the orange with some sandpaper and just spray them taping the logo and triggers.

They must have done a film-dip or something on those graphic finishes.

Film dipping is awesome.. you put a sheet with graphics on in a water? bath. The backing will dissolve and you can dip whatever you want coated through the water borne film. Not sure if you can do it at home, though. (Saw it on "How it's made.)
