Noticed the new banner at the 2Box website with some more .dsnds now available. Musikmesse is happening now and I am looking forward to seeing the 2Box reports.

I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

Drumasonic have great sounds. I've just finished a review for the May digitalDrummer and while they only have a limited number of instruments and kit pieces, they pull off some magic with mic placement and FX. There's a lot of sounds in a smallish package. And there's a free trial, which I would strongly recommend.

They do not list the instruments, what is it, Pearl, Tama, Yamaha?

Not sure which instruments they included in the 2box dsnds, but you can find details of the drums and mics here: http://digitaldrummermag.com/Extra.html

Noticed they released new library Drumasonic Luxury yesterday. http://www.drumasonic.com/product.php?id_product=8
This might be the must have to me. I've gained the best dsnd:s from Drumasonic 2. The adjustment possibilities for triggering are so good.

Off topic: Addictive Druns also got a new ADPak: Black Velvet. http://www.xlnaudio.com/products/view/42
Sound the best AD to me so far.

Sorry to be so ignorant, but are these commercial dsnds as high quality as the custom dsnds guys like Jman are making?

I looked over the free Drumasonic dsnds in DsoundTool. They look pretty nice. As an example the Metal Snare has 86 velocity layers for head and 74 velocity layers for the rim.... plenty of layers for sure...

Thank you Jman. As long as I am demonstrating my ignorance so freely and you are being so helpful, could you tell me how the layers are triggered? Do they all trigger at once? Or is triggering based on parameters like velocity and position and only some layers get used at any point in time (by any one strike)?

Talking about the 2Box module .... DSNDs:
The layers are triggered by the velocity of the hit. Each individual sample is played at and assigned a velocity level .... so those velocities will match the nuances of the hit as it was sampled/recorded.  So if there are plenty of velocity layers you will not be triggering the exact same sound sample over and over. Beyond that there is a choice in the 2Box module to choose Fixed or Var. Fixed means the module plays the sample that matches the velocity of the strike, so "what you hit is what you get" would be my definition of that. Var means the module plays the sample, but plays the sample of that velocity or one right above or below ..... a feature that is designed to further change up, randomize things so you don't get the machine gun effect. If you have dsnds with lots of velocity layers of distinct/different sounds/samples in my opinion Fixed works well as hitting the exact same velocity over and over is not gonna happen.

I haven't made any commercial dsnds, only for my own use. But if you meant those free ones that are in 2Box website, I must say my own are a lot better. Obviously, these things are subjective.

Hello you guys :)
The Drumasonic luxury pack sounds really cool to me. Do any of you guys know how to make your own dsnd`s from it? Can´t seem to find any thing about it in this forum, and I won´t buy it if it´s not possible.

Great sounds, but are some of the snares recorded at the bottom head side?
Again some attack misses. Nothing wrong with my ears and 2box module, since the other snares do have lots of attack

Does anyone know if Drumasonic will make more .dsnds available for sale or were the free ones just a teaser to demonstrate their product?
Thanks, Tony G
