Boot error with PNY 32Gb card

Hi all,

I just bought a PNY Professional 32Gb class 10 card from Amazon, it's the same one in the compatibility list.

Problem is just after the card boots I get the following error:

FAT S 0512 C 16K

I didn't format the card, just copied my working 16Gb Lexar card contents to it. I don't want to format the card in case that causes further issues.

Has anyone seen this type of error before?

Thanks

digitalDrummer

No. And I've tested three different PNY cards.

Nothing like that on the PNYs I have either. Did it come in a package like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/PNY-32GB-SDHC-Professional-CLASS-10-Memory-Card-/290833751897?pt=Digital_Camera_Memory_Cards&hash=item43b70adf59
That is the retail package all the ones came in that I bought. If you get a chance, take a pic or 2 of the front and back of the card plus the package. That might tell us if it is a fake.
I could tell you where to stick that piezo! :D ;)

Thanks for the replies.

I decided to format the card with the utility posted here in an earlier thread. I then copied my 16Gb card contents over again and now the card works!

I can only assume there was corruption on the card that the format has removed. I also tested for latency issues with some of my bigger DSND's that I've made such as hi hats, and so far so good!

I'll keep you posted if anything crops up.

Cheers

Would it be possible for you to post a pic of the card front and back, and the packaging? I'm interested to see if it looks the same as the ones I have. I have 4 of these and haven't had that problem with any. None of mine came from Amazon though.

Hi Jerry,

Here's a pic showing the front of the card. There was no packaging except the plastic box you see in the pic.

I was suspicious about the card when it arrived without a blister pack, but it has performed without issue and no latency issues after I formatted it, and most of my DSND's are large homemade one's from BFD with many hi hats being over 300Mb.

Cheers

That doesn't look like either of mine. My "professional" is a black card. My blue card is labeled "High Speed".
I'm a bit dubious about that one.

Mine are exactly like the pic and definitely all of them came in sealed retail packages. There are so many knock offs out there now. I would definitely recommend buying in retail packaging, a little safer that way at least .....  I've never seen one of those that was blue in a retail pkg..... I had the same type of thing happen with some Sandisk cards earlier last year that I posted about.

Your card looks the same as mine, front and back, even the lettering on the back with the exception of the manufacture date, obviously that would be different. Alan and I were commenting on the Blue card of Brian's ... questionable since the ones we have and the pics on PNY's website and pics from retailers ..... are all Black also. The reason I mention sealed, retail packaging is because the fake memory cards I have gotten burned on in the past did NOT come in retail packaging. So I always try to buy in retail packaging now.

This vendor is more safe and sells for 29.95 EUR atm

According to the next poster Conrad also sells fake cards. :(

I have one from Conrad and it is the same blue card as from Brian-D, came in sealed retail package. No marking on the back of the card. Also had the boot error.
I had some latency with this card (when playing busy patterns on 4 pads: hihat foot, snare, ride, kick). Didn't do more tests because meanwhile a Lexar arrived.
It is slower than the Lexar Pro 133x class 10 32GB, but cheaper. Access time 1.1 ms vs 0.8 ms, speed 18,5 MB/s vs 19,1 MB/s

Besides the one in Jman's post above, I can only vouch for this one:

Its performance seems identical to the black "professional"

Just to test I loaded up another of my PNY cards today with 29GBs (I picked this one up at Best Buy before Christmas), no formatting needed, no boot error, no lag, no problems.
