hearing tom head sound and rim

But now I have another issue..... on my 2 pdx'8 I'm using as floor toms, non splitted, hitting the rim triggers the head no matter how I set the gain and threshold, currently at gain 0 and threshold -12, always triggers the head.... the only option I've discovered so far is to turn of the rim sound completely using the +- setting...

So, after playing with the curve settings I finally manage to set my roland PDX"s right so they don't trigger the head sound when hitting the rim, I hope this help others that are using this type of roland pads.

For the Head:

• Trigger type: Actr3
• Xtalk high
• Gain 7
• Threshold :-48
• Curve: Pos2

For the rim:

• Type Rim
• Xtalk High
• gain 0
• Threshold -12
• Curve Normal

Your settings and your description of the problem doesn't make sense to me ..... you say the problem is that if you hit the rim you trigger the head, but you have the rim threshold set so the rim is the least sensitive to light hits. -48 would make the rim the most sensitive
If you hit the head and get the rim sound, settings like you are using would make sense to me, the opposite....

hello all, Im having a little problem that I am hearing the tom sound and its rim on one of my toms when I hit it. I think its only happening when I hit it harder? I am using Roland TD30 pads. Any ideas? Its weird in that it is only happening on one pad and not the others. Thank you

Hi guys , I'm new a newbie , got my 2box on 21 September 13 , did a gig the same evening with the unit and loved every bit of it! I have the same issue with my Roland pd 125 snare n pd 85 tom pads, when playing the rims , the head triggers as well.I have a spd 30, routed the triggers through the spd30 via midi to 2box & the rims works fine! I was looking at an easier way of not carrying the spd30 for gigs.looks like I'll definitely need the spd30 to trigger the rim. Any solution for the rims?

I do not have a Roland PD-125 or PD-85 so I can't give you the parameters. Maybe someone using those same pads have settings they believe work well.

What I can say is with the 2Box module like other brand modules it is important to understand how each trigger parameter influences the response and learn to adjust these parameters to get best trigger response from any pad. You need to adjust the head and the rim zones independently.

Start with pad type: Pad 12 for the PD-125 (12" mesh head pad) , Pad 8 for the PD-85 (8" mesh head pad). These are just starting points. Especially since you are using non 2Box pads.

Head: Set the Gain so that your hardest hits peak the velocity level. Lower gain if you are peaking the levels too easily, raise gain if you do not peak on your hardest hits. Set the Threshold so your lightest hits are detected. How I set threshold is to start at -48 then raise threshold until your lightest hits are no longer detected, then lower it a notch at a time until your lightest hits are detected. You only want the threshold as low as needed, too low and double triggering or crosstalk can become a problem.

Rim: Repeat the same procedure for Gain and Threshold.

Crosstalk: Although this setting is normally designed to eliminate crosstalk from another pad, it actually works very well for the problem you are talking about. After adjusting the parameters as I described above. Try raising the crosstalk, in your case raise the Crosstalk on the Head .... that should make it so you can play the rim at light and hard velocities without triggering the head sound. After raising the Crosstalk setting you may be able to go back and set your head or rim settings a little more "sensitive". This is a process that you need to go through on each drum IMO.

I won't go into trigger curves here, but Page 49 of the latest 1.2X 2Box manual describes how each curve affects trigger performance. Norm is usually the best overall setting ..... But for different playing styles or specific needs other trigger curves are an option ... I do use Pos 1 curve on my larger mesh head pads (14" and 16"). I like the way it tends to even out the response/velocity of the center/outer head, eliminating "hot spot" IMO. J

Ive got a recent development, i dont seem to get any PC Editor or any drumit five icon when connected to my HP laptop, am i doing something wrong, cause its supposed to open as a normal folder/icon.

Yes, its new,as i mentioned earlier,ordered it from Joybeky Uk, arrived in the UAE on 21 september,its not even a month old, no modifications whatsoever. I tried using a new usb cable;no luck :-(

I was just double checking that it was a "stock" module. The only reason I asked is if someone changes the card to larger than 4GB you can no longer use the USB connection.

First do this:
In order to start the DrumIt Five module in USB mode, simply hold down the left DATA button above the display, while powering up the unit.
The display shows:

USB_Disconnected: No USB connection (NO R below "Stat")
or
USB_Connected: Active USB connection (R below "Stat")

When the module is correctly connected to the computer, "R" (below "Stat") symbolizes read mode and "W" write mode. Please note that errors may occur in the file system when you disconnect the USB cable while the module is in read (R) or write mode (W).


If you still have problems .... You might want to email 2Box support, or contact Jobeky to see what they suggest since you just got it.

It Worked!! its currently showed "RW" (below "Stat") ,after a while blank   (below "Stat") ,
* will i be able to play the kit while in USB mode,
* Do i need to simply put the unit off & disconnect the cable once done?

No, don't play the kit in USB mode. Yes turn the module off when it is not in Read or Write mode and disconnect the cable. Start the module normally to play. If you don't have it, download the latest 1.2X 2Box manual from the website. Page 8 explains USB hookup as well as other pages on the drum editor, etc.
