i did a similar thread to another forum here
http://vdrums.com/forum/showthread.php?70676-how-to-increase-my-roland-cy-5-weight&p=598953#post598953

well ithought id ask here as well as many of us use thecy-5 as hi hatcymbal on another hi hatstand. i use the awesome pearl eliminator h2000 hi hat stand. problem is that cy-5 is too light and when i press hard on the pedal (for instance when i do foot splashes), the chain goes out of its rail and back in, making a clank sound. there is an awful video i did when i asked in pearl drum forum, if the hhstand was problematic(it wasnt)

i ask if there is some way to add wight to the cy-5. in the other forum they said about adding washers. i think there would be needed to many of them. far too many... anyone else having same problem? i m starting to think i should go baco to the original hi hat cymbal, cause of its weight but i dont want to...
all ideas are appreciated. thanx

Hi John,

I just wondered if you have ever thought about doing a conversion on an acoustic hi hat instead? Although there is a little work involved it would solve your weight issue and give a more realistic feel.

Personally I'm tired of hitting rubber and the feel of it, so in December I'm going to do an A to E conversion using one of Jman's kits.

All the best.

did you try to loosen the springs tension ?

you can maybe also add some felt between the chain and the rail , to reduce the noise when you do footsplashes...

brian, in the apartment i live noise is unacceptable. if i put an acoustic cymbal i am screwed!!!!

edtc, i have experimented with tensions. yes i have tried the loose one but to no avail...i do not want to put some felt where the chain loosens and then hits back again in the rail... after all the cam has felt in there. it would also screw the pedal. i am just thinking of other diy solutions. in the other forum someone suggested wheel weights. id check that also out.ill try and get some from a tyre shop. i hope they sell them

all done. i put some wheel weights.total weight of 600 gr. so the total weight of the cymbal with the weights is 1.2 kilos now. it plays well but only if i have the spring totally loose.i dont care. i guess if it was at around 2 kilos it would play like it was designed to. anyway i am so happy now. thanx to all
