Preparing for a GIG, my new Rack!

Getting tired of the old 2box rack and not wanting to pay over 300 euros for the new mkII rack, I decided to use my old Dixon/Gibraltar and implement some new ideas for me. See the pictures below. No snare stand anymore, and the ultra-adjustable Hihat from Gibraltar integrates excellent.

Mounting the tomholders was a bit tricky because the holder itself could not be fastened strong enough at the bars, it moved. I even splitted one in half when I tightened it to hard! Using a bit rubber from an old bicycle tyre solved it and now they stay at the desired place even when I abuse the toms.

So, now some pictures for preparing this GIG!

The new rack with some extra toms and cymbals:

Some details with the new Gibraltar hihat-stand.

The basdrum has its own tube and can be moved more inwards... The long tube itself is connected at cut of rack-tubes.

Front of the new setup.

Labels are so important!!

The rack without toms + cymbals.

The rack is ready for transport.

The old flimsy rack. Even the mk2 rack is not as stable as mine ;-)

Setting it up and testing for a real GIG!

I get a suspicion :patbat2box: many Dutch drummers go for the 2-Box.  :animal:

Interesting that you're using a ddt mesh head on the snare. Why is that and how do you find it compared to the 2box mesh?

Because it's white and I want to play with double layer. The original 2box head fell apart after +/- 50 hours playing... It triggers very well and the German supplier is also great.

An other thing I noticed is the huge difference between the mk1 bassdrum and the mk2 version. The first is much heavier and I used it with a "tennisbal" beater. That worked for me. With the mk2 the tennisball became very bouncy, even with a losened head, causing double triggering. I decided to use the old pearl beater with a lightly tensioned head. Now it feels very well!! Much better than the mk1 bassdrum with tennisbal I think. And because the mk2 is lighter it doesnt move that much compared to the mk1.

i never managed not to make it bouncy. i tried also all beaters. and i also used falams as well. with falams, it was bouncy as hell, but you need falams so not to break the mesh. so i used my mothers cloth she made for the kick and now i am fine. wish it was orange. but it is red. as close as it gets

Wow cool looking rack and a great alternative to the lighter weight 2Box rack.

Goed gedaan man. Ziet er allemaal fantastisch uit.
Met welke versterking heb je buiten gespeeld?

This was the Dutch section of this forum, wasn't it.

He guys THX for the compliments. The big pluspoinst for me are. The rack is more stable and I can position the bassdrum more inwards. With the standard 2box racj the bassdrum is placed to much outwards, you dont have the option to change it.

One question for 2box from me.... why doesnt 2box deliver their great set with standarized rack components? Now its a bit toy-like. Why invent the wheel again when there are better racks/aternatives on the market form hardware specialists like Gibraltar?! My rack is a bit heavier, but it can be moved quite easily.
