Hi, I recently purchased a midi adaptor and rock band 3. I managed to correctly assign the pads and cymbals to the appropriate places for the game, but I'm unsure of how to disable the triggering on the rims of my snare and toms. See, if I hit the rim of my snare it will trigger something like a cymbal or something instead. I understand how to reassign the rims triggering on the individual kits, but I have no idea how to do this via midi. Some help would be greatly appreaciated.

i also have a midi adaptor and never actually managed to make it perfect. i used to have ion drum rocker. i was pretty good at it. for example in eye of the tiger i had 100% score., when i played it with 2box i never got more than 70% some notes keep not registering ir double registering. when i go to freestyle mod, i dont notice anything strange. but when i go play, i find it strange that i miss notes. i will look again as i now have a new hi hat. i think i have managed to not have rim sounds. i also managed to make the cymbals one zone. i will check it tomorrow or the day after and give you the details. if you also somehow make it perfect please do tell me what you did. i use an sd card with settings just for rock band. and i also have my normal card for playing normal drums with the normal settings...

I have never owned a "Rock Band" game or anything like that before, but I have had a go on one.

One thing I noticed is there was no dynamic to it. So... you hit and that is what the game wants... justa registered hit at the right time.

So... thinking about this... there are all sorts of MIDI velocities being outputted my a module designed for a large dynamic range.

This leads me to think that maybe any MIDI note less than 127 is going to be rejected by the game software... and not register a note... hence the missed hits in gameplay.

Try setting up a kit that has no dynamics. 1 velocity hits... full. Or... if you don't want to do that, change the trigger settings on the pads you hit to MAX 2 in the envelope via the module menu. That will register a 0dB hit regardless of how hard you hit the pads.

i have done that rob already, but still there were missed hits. i think they were either from the hi hat or the kick. will check again now that i have manfreds kit and cy-5 to see if it is all gone better...

Hello and welcom to the forum.

I own a Midi Pro Adapter and Rock Band 3. But i've never tried it with he 2Box yet.
I did with my DTX900K and it as working flawlessly.
My Xbox 360 and my Kit are now at a different place so I cannot play on E-drums with Rockband anymore.
On the midi box aadapter, you can set sensitivity to avoid double triggering. If you set it high, you'll need to hit harder to register a hit for the game.

If you want to play with velocity,The best thing to do is to disable the drum sound of Rock band and use the module sound. This way you can play with your own velocity as long as you play what the game asks you.

About 2Box midi note assignement, I think there's a huge drawback to play games like Rockband. : let's say if you assign a note on your snare, the rim note will be automatically the consecutive higher midi note. You cannot assign it independantly.
Same for 3 zone cymbals, you set a note and 2Box assign the rest consecutively.

I'll miss the DTX900 for this features as it was capable of assigning any zone with any note. So I have set it with same note for each zone of a given pad and set open Hi hat midi the same as the Blue Cymbal (usually the Ride). It was working very well this way. Alas, I think you cannot do this on the 2Box. I have yet to try it.

So is it possible to change or disable a midi signal from being sent? For example, so that the signal from the rim isn't sent.

SHwoKing

I have read the manual and they say nothing about possibility to disable a zone. Maybe you can do it on the Unit-Interface menu by setting the number of zone to 1 for your given pad.

Womble

Already tried it, but it only assigns zones for the kits. The midi notes still end up being triggered.

SHwoKing

If you cannot disable or assign the same note or a note corresponding to the red block on Rock Band, I don't think it is possible. Did you check if the Head and Rim can be set independantely ? I think it should if 2Box allows Head and Rim splitting.

The ultimate last option is to plug a mono jack to your snare pad so the rim will not trigger at all ;D

Womble

Mono jack would prolly be the best idea tbh.

SHwoKing

I have checked and yes you can assign same or different note as you like on Head and Rim so the best choice is to set a midi note for the rim that is note recognise by the Midi Pro Adapter (assuming you're using this model). Problem solved.

The problem still remain for Cymbal and Hi Hat though.

Womble

I already explained that I tried that, it changes the note sent for the kits, not the midi note sent. Essentially what happened is I set it so that the snares top and rim sounded the same, however the game still read the rim as the tom. Clearly, what is being changed, is not the midi note being sent.

That's quiet odd.

Then Mono jack all the way.
I have to buy a RCAx2 to Jack converter to be able to set the kit for Rockband. I'll try to get it next week and see what I can do around.

I have run through a little test by bringing the module at home, plugging the 2Box on the midi pro adapter and trying to trigger the game notes via 2Box face buttons.

What I say works, you can assign a completely different midi note or the same midi note on Head and Rim. Thus you can trigger the red block with both or you can "disable" the rim by assigning a midi note which is not supported by the midi pro adapter.

From what you are saying, it seems you misundertsand midi note and sound setting for a particular trigger.

From this little test, 4 zones cymbals will prove to be problematic if you can't assign a midi note on each zone manually.

shwoking sorry for my delay, i will make 2 phonecalls and after that i will post my settings here. i will tell you what i did, what my problems still are and perhaps we work together and find a solution

and people pelase stop saying to get mono cables. thisisnt a solution. we cant all the time plug and uplug cable. it wil be a nightmare. thank you
