snare for 2box? and a positional sensing question

BURNIN AMBITION

Hi there. my 2box mk2 (the orang one) is still going strong for more than 12 years now.
Today i noticed a crack in the snare rim. so i am now thinking that perhaps it is time to use it as a second floor tom and add a new snare.
need a 12 inch one like the original 2box snare.
will need it to have a sloid metal rim (that has plastic on it obviously).
is there a way for the snare to have positional sensing? haw many zones do the 2box snares need to have? if i remember well, 2? one for the snare head and one for the rim?
If there are more triggers innit, can its performance be improved?
will it have hot spot if trigger is in the center or there is no such problem now?
Any suggestions for asnare that wont break the bank?
I know a guy in Athens that does diy snares. are there perhaps some specific instructions i should give him, if i go down this route?
Thanks guys so much

Hi.
By mk2 you mean the rack/pad setup?
But still the original drumit5 mk1 module, hyper-ellipse alu housing w black top?
It does not have pos sensing.
Pad w center piezo will most likely give hotspot.
Rim should be piezo too.
Best, Deve.

Hi my friend and thanks for your answer. i mean the first module, the orange one. i had it with the full set. it was called drumit5 mk2, but then 2box had a mk2 module as well and so this is mind blowing and confusing. anyway,i have the orange module.
if center piezo is bad for 2box, and wont give positional sensing due to the inability of the module, then i am sad.
still i would enjoy a 12 inch snare that can have side mounted piezo and also piezo for rim, and the rim was solid metal (with rubber on top). this way i could really use rimshots because in our snare i wont. i do rimshots from time to time but elegantly. id like a snare i can beat the crap out of its rim...
IS there a cheap option i wonder? if i get edrummin could i have positional sensing even if the piezo is not in the center?
is there any diy instructions for snare for 2box?

and lastly, why isnt the center piezo hotspot issue eliminated after all these years? it is a bit mind-blowing.
Thanks and sorry for the many questions.

Mk2 rack was long time ago, much later mk2 module, indeed conf.

Maybe rol pdx12, head pz towards near edge and rim pz. Could work nicely.

I had decent results with a generic 12" snare (in my case, a Tama Artwood 12 x 5 soprano, was quite cheap) I pot a decent mesh head on it, muffled it at the edges (internally, a piece of 2" foam that touches top to bottom heads and covers the entire inner shell) with a 2box trigit external trigger. Worked like a charm and was every bit as sensitive as the original 2box 12" pad.

My Hovercraft is full of Eels!

so i had a 12 inch snare created by a terrific guy called Vassilis in Greece. VJS is the brand.
he put the trigger on the side and the rim trigger in the center. i can finally hit the rim without fearing it will break.
The snare triggers flawlessly. amazing really. i am thrilled.
I loved my original snare but this feels even better.

My only problem is that the old 2box snare is my new floor tom. but if i split tom 4 input and share it with a diy pedal i have made, no matter what i do, whenever i git the floor, the kick pedal trigggers. so i stopped splitting tom4 input. if this could be fixed, id be a happy man

Nice snare. And not a bad idea to put rim piezo in the middle, at least if it gets its feed from a spider like gizmo which gets its vibration signals from all around the edge.

About split tom4, maybe there is too much xtalk. Try putting a parallel resistor over the kick piezo (via ring of trs?) to reduce its sensitivity for fl tom hits on the main (tip of trs) signal.

BURNIN AMBITION

thank you so much for the advice. it is really appreciated.
The original problem with my diy method, is that the piezo was very insensitive. i had to up the gain, to gain 21 !!!!
But there was no problem because i didnt split the tom 4 input.

now, if i split the input, whenever i hit tom, the kick triggers. but this happens also when i have gain of kick, to zero.

so, if this works will i need to up gain again too much? perhaps i should use a smaller piezo for the beginning?

what i dont understand is how can the piezo be insensitive to kick and sensitive to tom hitting... not just any tom, but the tom i split the input, with.

Now if a parallel resistor is the solution, then is there a schematic i can see? a photo? i dont really get it. the resistor should be put on the piezo? each foot of the reisistor soldered to each foot of the piezo? how much resistance would you suggest.
right now the piezo in on a small kick practise stand. but the piezo is glued on the back of the metal hitting area. not underneath the sponge. perhaps it should be underneath the sponge and also using a resistor?

if this works, ill make a statue out of you my friend. thank you so much

Hi!
Maybe the signal of the kick is too low (regardless split). Bigger piezo, other way of attachment?

Then, it might be too hi imoedance so it is sensitive to signals from others. Allthough a normal split cable will only have the common trs as possible xtalk point.

Sure your splut cable is ok?
You tested other tom inputs with same split settings?

Parallel resistor, each end over the piezos ends. Maybe 10 k?

Bedt, Rik.

thank you so much for the suggestions, iwill definitely look into them. ill write down what happened, once i find time to fix it.

so, i got a voltometer and tested teh cable for continuity. it is crap. thanks thomann for giving me a headache. morons... so problem solved
