Drumit 5 Mk II will not boot from new card

Hello

I looked around for a similar issue but could only see stuff from 2010 or so. So I am hoping there will be some guidance here:

We have this unit for 2 years so far. It is great. However last night the module would not boot with this screen for 20 minutes before we gave up:

"2BOX Drumit Five
Loading DrumitOS
Version:1.36.3"

So we removed the SD Card and looked in a PC - we could see but not copy the files (we wanted to make a backup). After a while the card became completely unreadable on the PC and when put it back in the drumit it shows:

"Drumit 5 Mk2
USB Disconnected
SERNR BOOT STAT
00426 1.37"

Pressing the data buttons above the screen did not bring a response.

So we made a new card from a 64GB, reformatted to 32GB partition FAT32 and loaded the Drumit 5 MkII software from the drumit page. It wants to boot but is now stuck on:

"Drumit 5 Mk2
FAT_S_0512_C_16k
SERNR BOOT OS
00426 1.37 1.36"

We try holding the middle button down while booting per the instructions, but this has no effect other than just another attempt to load.

Any advice appreciated. Also emailed support.

Thanks

Hi.
That boot msg says the sd card is not formatted correctly, cluster size (allocation size) is 16k, should be 32k.

Try to reformat with that.
Btw, formatting a 64 gb card as 32 gb is not an obvious thing, but you might get away with it.

Best, Deve.

Hi Deve,

Thanks again that worked. I cannot find the requirment for this formatting, anywhere in the documentation by Drumit? Seems they could put it in the download page and in the manual.

Best Regards

Hi Bill.
Well, when I designed the original DI5, it had the sd card built in. I sort of suspected problems when people use their own.
But when they released mkII later, it opened up a grey zone of what to use. I added that msg (which seems to be still there) as a safety warning just in case, which turned out what you got :-)
