General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Re: Unofficial 1.40 OS

Almost 3 years after now and still no new official firmware from 2box, come on 2box, I know you read this forum, just let us know if you have dropped the ball....

The MIDI part still sucks, there's no way of changing anything but the note, no midi thru, no local control and the aftertouch is only sent and not received, lots of missing stuff still.

1 year later and still no update for 2box, why? What's the excuse now?

I tried the cc16 with SD3 and EZD3 this morning, the mimic works best with EZD3 since it needs only center and edge sounds, one can clearly hear center and edge articulations played accurately whereas with SD3 you have 3 zones but the transition among them is not great with the mimic, it jumps from off-center to edge, I remember you could select how many zones you wanted but now I can't find how to do that. Anyway, standalone works great with an efnote 14" snare, smooth transition between center and side sounds.

Update is live now, I guess the great lustark will have a busy weekend...
A big letdown: the instrument editor won't support hihats...

Position sense is now sent on CC16, let's see if it can compete with roland...

Pearl leaked last night a new update containing a multilayer sample editor, it has been removed already but someone managed to download it and made a video about it, you can now import up to 300 multilayer samples, sorry 2box, you are now officially behind:

An ATV Ad5 is a good option, 4ms latency, nice sounds, compatible with many brands of pads, (not the case with efnote which has a proprietary hihat) and plays nice.

Yeah I was cautious about recommending the Gewa, but in the UK drum show recently, Luke Hesketh who had previous reviewed the G9 and outlined the major flaws with it, felt that they had ironed them out.

I just had a look at their G9 facebook group, all woes and worries there, no thanks, they fooled me once, never again...

Forget gewa, I had the G9 and spent countless hours trying to get the triggering right, never got it, sold it, Gewa told me they were working on an update, the update came, never fixed the issues. They just tell you what you want to hear...

Mimic Pro is the best right now, pair it with any pad, I'm currently using a mix and match kit with efnote 14" snare and 20" ride, yamaha TCS 10" pad, Roland VAD 12" Tom, ATV 13" floor tom and a 14" tama starclassic floor tom with a triggera intrigg, ATV 14" hats, lemon splash and cymbal and 2 16" roland 16" pads. I've learned to not marry to a brand, I even have an edrumin to connect another 4 pads.

What's missing on the mimic are percussion sounds and some MIDI stuff like local control and midi thru. Otherwise is simply the best out there.

I found a hidden menu in 1.40 OS (that doesn't exist on 1.36.30)

Accessed by going to KIT - ENV page, select UNIT, hold MORE + KIT

ENV2 page is displayed with a single parameter to adjust per trigger called TRIGP (options are RIM and CROSS) it's unclear what the effect this has from my testing so far.  :-\

Since it's on the kit page and not on the unit page I guess this is not related to assigning a trigger type or input but to assign a sound to a pad.

Oh I get it now, since the BT-1 is connected to another channel I won't lose the rimshot sound. I was mixing assigning sounds with drum channels... It is confusing since drum-tec still announces the 2box has 15 trigger inputs but doesn't say there are actually 10 and that you will lose the rims on the toms/snare when you use splitters to add 5 additional pads/cymbals to the perc channels...

So with the unofficial 1.40 OS from the fame hybrid module there  hasn't been any updates to the midi front? how about that new ENV2 page someone discovered that had "TRIGP"}"Rim/Cross"?

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / 3 Zone snare with BT-1
April 11, 2022, 07:04:46 AM
So if I want to use a BT-1 for x-sticks with a dual zone mesh snare I lose the rimshot sound? Because the manual says when you assign a sound to the perc part you will trigger this sound, so if I assign a crosstick on another input will I lose the rimshot sound? I'm confused after all this years... also which midi note is assigned to this x-stick? I seem to remember that the 2box doesn't send 37 for xstick but only 38 for center and 40 for rimshots. The BT-1 will be splitted with a tom input.

Why don't you get an edrumin4 and connect the atv hihat to it and send the midi to the 2box? the edrumin has better hihat control and works perfectly for me.
