Hi Anders,
I'm glad someone enjoyed it! :)
It's a cool little snare. I recorded a few 10" snares too, those are lots of fun...

I'm sure this has been covered somewhere but haven't found it yet so...since the new DrumIt5 MKII can use up to a 64gb card, does anyone know one that is compatible? I would assume that 64gb versions of already confirmed 32gb cards would be ok?

This is a sample set I made over a year ago as an early test which I do not need for my personal library. However, it still sounds nice and should provide a fun option for those who want a high-pitched auxiliary snare. The drum is not centered, but mostly on the left side where most people put this type of snare on a kit. As this was an early experiment, there's a bit more room sound than I normally go for (it was further away from the mics.) Simply recorded with a pair of overhead mics in a small room.

I hope some people get some use out of it! Enjoy :)

I agree particularly if it does work with up to 64GB, it's important to know which cards are compatible.

I went ahead and downloaded the content. Yep, some nice new sounds. Still mostly low velocity counts on cymbals. Makes no sense to me...but some nice new drums for sure with multiple mixes for each which is cool!

I have to agree. I don't know why you'd want to sample Roland drums. They are far less expressive than the 2Box sounds with only a couple of velocity samples. To each their own, and you can certainly do it but the quality compared to stock sounds (let alone 3rd party libraries) will be below par.

Is there any reason to get a DrumIt3 instead of one of these now?
Aside from the fact that the DI5 MK2 is seemingly impossible to find in the US...
Is any of the sample content for the DI5 MK2 actually new or is it just reworked stuff from the website? 12GB is much larger than what the others came with (for obvious reasons) but I'm curious if it's simply the entire sound list already on the site or if there is actually unreleased content.

Setup guides and tips / Re: Sampling a ride cymbal?
March 14, 2020, 03:22:48 AM
I have sampled many rides, as well as crashes that have ride capabilities.
I've said it before and will continue to point this out. The biggest flaw with the cymbal sounds already available without spending more money is that they are nowhere as deeply sampled as the drums. I have a 21" Sabian Evolution ride sample set that has 84 bell layers, 99 bow layers (the hardest ones are when you hit the shoulder of the stick on the top,) and almost 40 edge layers. The file is, from memory, around 220 MB in size.
If you really want the cymbal to respond like the real acoustic one, it will take time. If you just want the basic tone of your cymbal to be available and don't need a ton of nuance, you won't need to take as much time on it.

For splitting the samples, Reaper has a wonderful dynamic split function. You do not need to wait at all after a hit has ended if you set it up right; in fact the cymbal can still be barely resonating to the point where no one will hear it anyway, and it will still split correctly. All I have to do is check the sample start and end points and then I apply a very gentle fade at the end just to be on the safe side.

This is a great partnership if you ask me, and Mario is indeed a great guy.

One thing I would like to know is, I had heard that the goal was to use this not only with their TrapKat but also with their mallet controllers. If this is accurate information (it wasn't from the company,) then the module would have a different sample architecture so that more sounds could be triggered per patch; you won't get several octaves of pitched notes from a standard DI3 kit. I'd love to know if this is the case or if it's misinformation; Kurzweil had discontinued the module they were previously selling for all their controllers, so it has me wondering.

I'm also curious what sounds he's producing for it, how deeply-sampled they are, etc. Not a lot of info on this yet though.

I'm not sure what these cymbal swell engines are supposed to do. I ran a bunch of mallet hit samples in a file to test how they would sound if someone tried to roll on them and it worked fine. As far as I can tell the only thing they do is cut off the previously playing samples when you hit a new one, and I am pretty sure the 2Box has a function for this hidden somewhere. But even if it doesn't, like I said I tested this when triggering a huge roll via MIDI and it sounded great, not cutting off any samples.

Seems that the ride cymbal pad is the highlight here, from all that I've read so far. Hopefully they sell them separately and they don't break easily (like the older 2Box ones apparently did.)

I'd probably grab those from you if I was on that side of the ocean, but I'm in the US and I imagine shipping would be expensive.

Excellent, I will go for one of the older Yamaha TP pads then. As stated they do seem to show  up for good prices and don't appear to have all the durability complaints like the newer ones.

Velocity switching may be fine for some, I prefer two separate zones so I can play either one at whatever volume I wish. Most of the samples I have are ones I recorded myself and they have a full range of dynamics so I wouldn't want to reduce that. I only wish the 2Box had even more inputs... :D

This is great info thanks! I may stick with the older Yamaha pads then. The newer ones have pretty mixed reviews and the comments about less clear separation are also concerning. How is the rebound on the older pads? Do you feel it is harder to produce buzzes, rolls etc than on the newer design (or mesh for that matter?)

It is pretty strange that this 3rd zone is so hard to get working. You can't trigger it over MIDI either, otherwise I'd just do that. I have no idea why they designed it this way.

I've looked around a bit but must be searching for the wrong thing. It seems the only 3-zone snares are the expensive Yamaha ones (which have pretty mixed reviews on their durability,) the 2Box one, and the ATV one which doesn't work with the Drumit3.
So, how can I get all 3 snare zones? I do not want to lose the rim of another pad to do it, the snare has 3 zones and I want to use them all. Is the 2Box snare the only way to get this done? Or could I split the snare input and add a 3rd single-zone pad for the crossstick?
