I have similar desires for solutions providing note-off cymbal choke, hi-hat closed/open and related mute group capabilities (i.e. percussion hits and mutes). I use a Zendrum and other MIDI controllers, and while I love the 2Box samples and core philosophy, I end up sourcing the affected items across different modules. I know there are other pathways to this end but would like to see this implemented into the unit's core feature set as it is in other modules, especially software. I understand why manufacturers would want to design around their pads, but there is a significant slice of the market that is controller oriented. It would be great to offer this flexibility for an otherwise outstanding product.

Thanks for considering!

Nice to see I am not the only one wanting this functionality. In fact I was also testing this with a Zendrum. For the hi-hat, your best bet is to hook up a dedicated hi-hat pedal to the input on the module; unless you have found a workaround, the Zendrum will not behave correctly if you use an expression pedal or similar to morph from closed to open with the correct CC number assigned (1 or 4.) Someone found a device to extend the note-off messages to make cymbal chokes work, but I forget what it was...something from MIDI Solutions I think. In fact MIDI Solutions products are your best bet in general if you want to adjust things like this as they are extremely flexible.

Enabling real 3 zone snare support would be an excellent new feature.

They would need to code new midpoint thresholds in the unit settings however to allow us to calibrate it properly. Are we suggesting 2box no longer has a coder on their support team, which is why they cannot even approach these ideas?  :-X

The 2Box does support 3-zone snares, at least from Yamaha...But the crossstick zone was never added in as a MIDI note. I use the 2Box played from MIDI percussion pads, so there is no way to get a cross stick sound other than removing a sound from another zone (or velocity switching, which I won't do as I want the full dynamics of all sounds.) This should, in theory, be a very easy thing to add to the code -- it's just one MIDI note, probably the empty one right after snare and snare rim, just like how cymbals take up 4 neighboring notes.

For me the biggest problem is that there are various bugs that 2Box seems to be uninterested in fixing. Currently there's still nothing out there which equals this module; the idea is still revolutionary even 10 years later.

The polyphony is low, but from testing a friend's MKII it seems that module has slightly better handling of cymbal polyphony.

Just wish you could secretly add the MIDI note for snare cross stick in an unofficial firmware release ;) lol I can dream!

I am quite sure this is not an issue with the samples themselves, as a friend has an old original DI5 with loads of VST's on it with up to 128 velocity layers per zone. Some kits are over 1 GB, no glitches whatsoever. This is either a problem with the SD card, or some weird bug unique to the MKII.

I am  using an external MIDI controller to play the 2Box, and it works well except the cymbal chokes don't behave correctly. If I hit a note assigned to a choke, it just lowers the volume of the cymbal so in order to choke it you have to hit it many times and of course that does not sound right. Is this normal or something weird with the way my controller is set up?

That is strange. I have never heard of a latency issue before, other than using incorrect cards.
#22
Yep, your problem is that the settings on the second card do not match your primary ones, these are the default settings from the factory. Just copy the trigger settings from your original DKIT file to the new one and you'll be good to go!

I'm going to order a 64 GB card today or tomorrow and test this as well. Awesome to see it working for everyone, this is so much better than switching cards in and out.

Jamulus is location-dependent. I use online jam software to play with people I could not play with in person due to distance, as around here we are not locked down or anything like that so local in-person playing is still possible. For that reason, I prefer to use Ninjam even though it is older tech...for drums in particular it works better as there is not the same feel of latency that you can get from Jamulus due to how it works. Jamulus is actually more realtime, but if you wish to play with people across the ocean it is going to have a noticeable delay. For local jams, or even jams across smaller countries in Europe where people are generally closer together, Jamulus can work amazingly well however. So it all depends on the details...

Also for security...Ninjam is built into Reaper, so you don't have to worry about any risks with that one. :)

I was unable to find any 64gb SLC cards, at least not specifically mentioned. Unfortunately it looks like most that are made now are the ultra/etc ones that are too fast for the 2Box to handle. At least I know this card did work for you, so perhaps I can locate one cheaper somewhere (eBay?) Maybe 2Box did not want to include it because it isn't made anymore? Or is it?

Hi!

I also tried to source some approved 64 Gb cards from 2box when dealing with the 32 GB cards above - but not even 2box had an approved card. This might be a challenge to get a card which handles FAT32 (instead of the normally used EXFAT for these kind of sizes), is reliable enough to be used in 2box and to the right cost.

There are some great discussions on Vdrums.com why different don't work...and some do on 2box.

Hi Anders,
I found in another thread you mentioned using a 64 GB card, and someone linked to this page https://cy.rsdelivers.com/product/atp/af64gsd3-wadim/atp-64gb-mlc-sdxc-card-industrial/1465575
Here is the thread: https://www.2box-forum.com/index.php?topic=4001.0
The price on that website is insane, but if this is still working out for you it is probably the best choice if I can find it elsewhere...

Hi. 64 GB sdxc can be reformatted as FAT32, however, a flash card is not like a traditional hard drive because of the erase block boundaries. And not the same as sdhc either.
Zaba, Deve.

Yeah, I've only been looking at sdhc because it seemed like those were more successful with the 2Box. It seems that most of the newer 64GB cards are "ultra" or other similar ones that are too fast for the module to handle based on the other thread. I guess my best bet would be to try and find some NOS cards that might be the right specs...just hope it actually works as it doesn't seem to have been tested.
#28
It seems that one could just reformat a 64gb card to FAT32, right? At that point it would probably be easier to find one that would work given the other requirements we know it must have.
It is quite strange that 2Box says up to 64gb but cannot even recommend any cards. That's a little misleading. Perhaps it is because they have to be reformatted but that is not hard to do and if that is the case they can simply state this somewhere.
#29
So 2Box says the Mk II will take up to a 64gb SD card. However I don't see any recommendations for cards which are compatible, only 32 and smaller. Has anyone tested this yet? If one of the working 32gb cards has a 64gb version with otherwise identical specs, is it safe to assume that this will work?

Nice to know that the original  DrumIt 5 still holds its ground...

A friend recently just got the original full DI5 kit with the older module and it works perfectly. The sounds were all replaced with 3rd party content, but the unit still works like new!
