Setup guides and tips / Re: The BFD2 thread

Tom, I'm gonna have a play with this this weekend! Glad you managed to sort the HH after we last spoke. Looking forward to trying this.

As you prob read previously I have messed with my MIDI notes on my .dkit file, is this map configured for the default .dkit file (apart from the continous controller alteration?)

Cheers dude.

I wouldn't I dont think unless it did hold the kick drum. Looking at my set up at home (still using the snare arm) this extra bar wouldn't offer any more to my set up...

If it hold ths kick though, they're onto a winner!

Hey Scottie! Love the orangeness of that bar!

My thoughts: if the top of the kick could somehow connect to that cross bar to stop the physical bounce/rebounce then this would be a worthwhile bit of kit.

If it's just for making the rack more sturdy, I dont think it will have much effect? I may be wrong.

Something like this will do the trick nicely I should think...And it's only about £30 GBP

I have used this model when we recorded our EP with acoustic drums, I can't recommend enough! Strong build, simple, and despite what you may think for stuff like this Behringer ain't bad at all!

Hi Alex, i would love to post up a map, however, my .dkit file on the brain has changed as ages ago i was trying to get to grips with the MIDI notes with Superior Drummer and therefore are different to the default .dkit files you will most have.

However.... watch this:

It helped me immensely - but beware with the HH as it works differently on different samples, the Sabians work best.

I will eventually load the default .dkit into my brain and get a map for all... I think even UC was gonna try and get one, but I know he's been busy with other stuff.

Yeah, that's a bit strange: the tom rims seem to be far more sensitive than the snare

Maybe its because the toms are that bit smaller...

I'm assuming once the sound editor is live then we can import loops and/or SFX and assign them to pads to trigger...

This is true, however beware, as they are re-recorded in most instances by Rhythm staff, so have no vocals and aren't always that accurate!

Apparently there was a new clamp developed to hold the HH stand and the rims are now poly-carbonate.

1st generation users can get a replacement clamp as far as I am aware, but dont know when these will be in stock.

As for Poly-rims - 2Box R&D have said that there is no difference whatsoever in playability or sound or function - it is just a bonus for the manufacturing process.

HI, do a search for 'kit list' or head over to the resources page (link at top next to 'Home')

Cheers

Same as me really, Manfred. If you remove the head you will see why this is happening. The trigger for the rim sounds is only connected to the floating rim at 12 o'clock, so to speak, and only on one side so it will be more sensitive to movement around the 9 - 11 o'clock regions.

This may be why you have trouble, mine wasn't seated properly when I received my kit and reseating it made a hugfe difference. Be careful not to overtighten the head as this will 'choke' the triggering of the rim... I don't know if this will be improved upon, the only thing I can say is the tom rims work flawlessly.

Sorry Ic an't be of more help...

OK I have been away from the office today and been itching to watch that video, and have just done so now...

Hmmmmm.

The toms/snare sound awful (in my opinion) and HH doesn't sound too nice either. From what I can here the ride and some crashes/splashes/chinas sound nice (bell, edge etc).

BUT.....

Most people buy an eKit because they are somewhat smaller and quieter than an acoustic one. This is virtually identical in size to an acoustic kit and I can see (not hear) a massive amount of acoustic noise happening, maybe. If they have created heads that feel, look and sound like real heads, then I'm sure they will! And eCymbals made from brass??? This is going to be louder than than my Sabians!

I just think Pearl are jumping on the  bandwagon and have maybe done it without any real R&D into what people actually want from an eKit.

As for the collaboration of other sound manufacturers, this is the only thing where Pearl will succeed in this arena as they are a massive well known company - and companies like to be associated with names like Pearl.

I will NOT be getting rid of my DrumIt Five soon.... or ever!

I like Pearl (my acoustic kit is one) but I think they may have jumped on this without any real thought.

This is really interesting! Years ago I sampled my Bro's drums to build my first soundfont and they served my very well for a long time, i'd be interested in trying to record my own acoustic kit for import into the brain. We be good to sample the Chad Smith snare and my cymbals... Just need some time... :(

However, what are the legal implications for, as Manfred described earlier, using sounds from Toontrack or FXPansion to import into the module? I mean we have bought the software which gives us the right to use the sounds in recordings - is this still the same case for putting it into the brain?
