General 2box Drumit 5 forum / MIDI Map
August 10, 2009, 05:54:00 PM
Hi, Scott you might be best to try and answer this?

Does 2box have a MIDI map for use with BFD? I'm struggling to set up manually as the documentation appears to be wrong... and so does BFD?

In the manual it says that the kick is on note C2
In the Brain it says the kick is C0
If I use the learn function in BFD (you press this then the pad you want to assign) it says C1

So I am very confused... also it's not easy to figure out which notes chokes are or rims of drums, as it seems there is no consistency between the 3 areas?

Anyone shed any light?

Thanks
Neil

Quote from: NeilC on August 10, 2009, 08:15:40 AMbut yeah - they don't distort on the brain itself.

Neil, I realy apreciate the work you did, but since there is some distortion on the recording (and not on the brain) I don't think this is good for the imago of 2Box (neither is waiting for a kit another 2 months >:().
It's almost like listening to Vdrum clay sounds  :P Or am I exaggerating?

Totally appreciate the comment, but as long as people know that I had tweaked with the gain on the module and that the sounds are actually fine - I don't see it being a problem...

In essence this was just a rush sample file for people to hear the kits, as mentioned in an earier post, as long as I have time I can do proper recordings if people do want to hear a better quality version of a specific kit.

The mp3 here was one where I looped the bars, and after each one sat at the brain and turned the dial. And that took me 20 minutes, so tweaking for each kit would have taken a lot longer, and roughly got the same results - as a preview.

Have to say, I'm surprised we're not getting a lot of user feedback on here about the kits.  So far all I can tell is they're more complex than expected, seems to be some sort of hi hat issue, have a noisy bass drum pad, but sound great thus far. Anyone know of any places that have a kit available that will ship to the US?

Also, I don't mean to cause trouble, but since ADAT is a dead format I don't think it necessary to include that interface.
How is adat a dead interface? It is the most common way to send up to 8 channels of digital audio.

I think the comment was referred as hardly anyone uses ADAT anymore, I think Hard Disk solutions have become the norm (cheper, easier to maintain etc) I think if anything, optical (SPDIF or Toslink) outs would be the way forward...

Hi Scott,

What I'm doing is trying to get the ipod into the mix with the drums in my headphones. But the Line In input doesn't seem to be working.

The amp actually used the line out, so that doesn't mean much as it's a separate jack.

Thanks
Tim

Hi Tim, see one of Scottie's replies to the iPod issue! Mine needed to be changed too....

"If you press UNIT then PAGE DOWN until you get to the MIX page. Here you should have K-S-H  T-C-P  I-F-S displayed at the top.
Then click the button above I-F-S. From here along the bottom of the screen you should have INPUT - FXRet and SONG. If you move the DATA knob below INPUT, you will see the level on the right hand side move up and down on the display, this is turning up your line in input."

Hi Pete, I had a little play around with this yesterday, and I think it certainly is possible, however some tweaking will be involved (sensitivity, footing etc)... Scottie may be able to back me up on the actual ability to have closed, open and half...

Some of the sounds are bit edgy or almost a subtle amount of distortion. Is this in the module or could it the levels set in the sound interface?

Peter

Hi, this could deffo be the sounds in the brain (i have tweaked the gain of some of the pads). To be honest I should have 'reset' the brain so it was out of the box.... but yeah - they don't distort on the brain itself.

Also I looked in the manual last night and I should have really taken outputs from all of the outputs as the pads are assigned to different ones, but all in all - it gives you an idea....

OK, so hope there's no copyright infringements here or anything I'm assuming not, but I have looped a few bar sample for each kit, sorry it's nothing exciting, quite boring, and not ALL the sounds of the kit will be heard, but Kick, Snare, HH, Ride, Crash and toms will.

I think the sound file is a bit right side bias (due to my inputs not the brain), but it's totally raw out of the brain itself exported to 320kbps MP3... Here is the list Scottie provided, so patience will be needed...

No worries!

I think there is actually? Can't remember off hand... but will certainly see.... to be honest I might put a straight beat on loop and record a couple bars of each kit so everyone can hear them all, see how generous I feel ;)

But I will certainly dig out a couple of funky kits

OK I was gonna record some samples of the kit in my set up, but as soon as my new kit arrives, my PC dies! So my new quad core is coming tomorrow and I will spedn this weekend playing with the kit in Cubase,

So if anyone wants any of the particular kit sounds recording (list from Scottie in a previous post) reply here and I'll get a raw mp3 recording done! solo or with music....

Hey Magellan

Ok try this with your cymbal choke issue:

Press UNIT and navigate to the TRIG page, then push one of the cymbal buttons on the left hand side of the Unit. From here you should have the preference for that Cymbal displayed. Then if you look on the top row of the display, it will say Choke, check that is set to On. If it is off simply click the button above it.

Does this resolve your issue?

Hope this helps
Scott

Also, without sounding patronising, when I forst tried the choke I reaslised you had to only pinch the very last 3/4 inch of the cymbal and press, I was grabbing the main body of the cymbal and it wouldn't work...

Sorry if you already know/knew/tried this...

See Scottie's other post with the retailers on with stock. I can recommend Electro in Doncaster highly!

Do you have timescales, Scottie, for the first major patch? OS 1.0 etc....
#194
I agree to some extent there Ber0ni, however please don't say take more time! I waited a year since order! haha.

In all seriousness though, I actually think that releasing now is pretty good. For example the kit being 'open sound' means (hopefully) that the feedback will get listened to and good changes made. Rather than a new product from Roland et al, which is just another 'upgrade' to their existing kits which offer nothing new or user friendly.

I maybe wrong and 2box may shun everyone's ideas and opinions, but lets wait a while and see what happens?

So far so good, only the USB connection and editor is a flaw in my opinion but not massively as I can use other drum programs to tweak...
#195
"Editor: PC / Mac software for editing drum kits on the computer and ( in a later revision ) editing DrumIt sounds or create multi-sampled user sounds from wav, aiff or rex files."

Did the initial editor not make it into the final release? Do we know timescales?
