The hi-hat on my DrumIt 3 doesn't feel quite as smooth as on my old TD-12 and I've read similar comments from others as well, so I doubt that changing the conversion box makes a huge difference. Hi-hat triggering isn't one of 2Box's strong points.

Roland is quite widely considered to be the best in hi-hat triggering. There's also the option of EDrumIn + VST, but at that point you might as well get rid of the 2Box entirely and just use the VST.

Any new OS updates or hardware coming up from 2box?? Been a while now....

I don't know, but I'm not expecting a lot at the moment based on their current online activity. They don't seem to give very helpful responses to support requests, if they respond at all, and their Facebook page mostly consists of re-posts of users' drum videos. I don't know when the last official OS update was released, but it has indeed been a while because I got my unit about a year ago and the current version was already out then. Of course the Fame OS version would suggest that their development isn't entirely dead, but it's quite hard for an outsider to tell what's going on with them. I guess the pandemic might have caused problems for their business as well.

I've been wondering if one part of the solution is to either have really well isolated pads that don't need X-TRG or to use splitters so that most of the rims are out of the equation. It's not that simple though because I have had glitches even when I unplug everything except hi-hat, ride, snare and bass drum.

My current perception is that the issue is somewhere in the combination of SD card, pads, trigger settings and the player's touch. And the samples, of course. I've been told that I'm not a hard hitter on acoustics, but maybe there's something about my playing style that is more prone to cause problems? I don't know.

Do you have an average file size for an entire SD3 kit where this problem occurs? A friend has kits over 1 GB running with 0 glitches (not from SD, though.) Also, if you know about audio editing and such, you can save a lot of space by trimming the ends off each sample once SDSE creates them (or in cases of libraries where you can get into the raw data, after that is extracted.) Sometimes there are 2, 4 or even more seconds of silence at the ends of samples that can simply be chopped off.

I have had the glitching happening with a relatively small kit from SD2 that worked without problems in someone else's unit. Do you know if your friend has an OS version that has the XTALK/X-TRG features? It seems to have introduced performance issues, but for me at least, it is also necessary to prevent head/rim crosstalk.

Problem solved, thanks Lustar & edcito! However, I discovered that you also need to have scaling set to 100% in Windows display settings or SDSE just doesn't recognise SSD 5.5.

Memory card would be my first guess as well, I had the same issues with the original card of my DrumIt 3 with the factory samples. After replacing the original card, I haven't had any issues with 2Box's samples, only VST exports.

I think it will be hard to find one because selling kits ripped from VSTs would cause legal issues and sampling kits just to sell them to 2Box users would not be very profitable. Check this sticky thread from the software section that discusses Toontrack's view of the matter.

On the other hand, I don't think buying a full drum VST and some extensions + SDSE is that big of an investment in the long run. People are also selling VSTs second-hand and you might find them at quite decent prices.

I got access to Kontakt Studio Drummer and tested an export with it. Same results as with SD2 - max tune +4, decay 10 on all samples + kick voice to Mono and then it's quite ok, just small glitches here and there. It seems quite consistent with different VSTs.

I wanted to try the free Steven Slate Drums 5.5 kit on my 2Box, but for some reason I have trouble getting SDSE to export it. When I click Export, SDSE tells me that the VST is not supported and opens up some kind of render mapping dialog in Reaper and I fully admit I don't know what it means. I'm using SDSE 2.9.8 and Reaper 6.29. I tried exporting from two other VSTs and they worked without any adjustments. Any advice?

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Re: DrumIt things

Thanks for all your contributions Deve! The 2Box concept is quite unique and I think it's quite remarkable how the original DrumIt 5 is still a relevant module even after 10+ years. It may seem that I'm annoyed with my DrumIt 3 and it's partly true of course, but at the same time I don't regret buying it because it has boosted up my interest in drumming and e-drums in general and I think I've learned a lot during this past year or so.

Sounds like the infamous latency problem with VST samples that has been discussed here in several threads. I recommend checking Lustar's SDSE FAQ and the section "2box DrumIt: How can I solve latency issues when playing bigger kits from BFD3 or SD3?" which contains a good summary of what we know so far. I haven't been able to get rid of the glitching entirely, but the listed tweaks should at least improve the situation.

The initial instructions indicate to Clone the working 32GB card first and then Image the Clone. Is this correct? I notice this new micro SDXC card is formatted with exFat-is this the correct initial state of the micro SD SDXC card?

You need to create an image file of the original 32GB card and then write that image to the 64GB card as described in this message. The image will replace the formatting of the new card, so it doesn't really matter what the initial state of it is, but the end result should be FAT32. After that, you can extend the written partition to the remaining free space on the card.

I have a DrumIt 3, so I'm not sure if the 5 Mk2 already has all of 2box samples built-in, but if not, they are available at 2box-drums.com. I think the 5 Mk2 had some samples built-in that weren't listed on the website (at least the Gretsch US Maple and Sonor SQ kits), but I'm not sure if it's the other way round for some others.

If you decide to use VST exports, I should warn that you may encounter latency depending on various little factors. Getting rid of it may require some advanced editing of trigger settings as well as SDSE export parameters. There's discussion about it in various threads.

Following up on my latency issues, not sure if this is the correct thread, but since it was last discussed here... I got a suggestion from forum member edcito that changing the VOICE setting on the KIT/ENV page to "Mono" instead of "Poly" for the bass drum might help with latency. I tried that and indeed noticed again some improvement. It's still not perfect because I still get a little bit of glitching, but it happens less frequently. I'm not entirely sure what the setting does because the manual doesn't explain it in detail, but it doesn't seem to affect the bass drum sound quality in a noticeable way. It may be more significant with other samples though. Anyway, I thought I'd share the information here as well.

Other e-drum systems / Re: Fame Hybrid Pro

I wonder if the new OS version just contains tweaks to support the modifications that were made in the Fame module, like the changed button layout and the reduced inputs. I really wouldn't mind an update with some performance improvements, though.
