Hi guys ,

I made some researches to se if ALTERNATE MODE DRUMKAT 3.5 is compatible with Aquarian inhead without the need of an "InBox " , but didn't found the answer ...

I saw on the manual that the pad inputs can handle several FSR based  pads :
- proPAD - multi-zone FSR Pad
- rimKAT - dual-zone FSR Pad
-poleKAT - dual-zone FSR Pad .
But as inhead & onheads weren't available when the manual was written ...

thanx in advance for your help ...

hi guys

i recently bought 3 second hand DAUZ 6" rubber pads , like those on this picture  .

They were ultra cheap ( 5 euro each ) and ultra old too ( maybe 15 years or more ) , but i wanted to have some for a long time so i bought them ...
The parcel arrived today ... The plastic has been glued at some points where it was cracked , and some screws were a bit rusty .
One pad has real low signal compared to the others that worked fine . So i opened it to see what was wrong ...
After re-soldering the wires well , it was the same , so i changed the 27mm piezo for a brand new one . Then it worked fine like the others .

The rubber on my pads is quite stiff , it maybe because it s old , i guess on actual models it could be softer and more bouncy .
The construction of the pad is really simple and clever . Its a metal plate inside a rubber envelope with a piezo sticked in the center. This "head" is fixed on the body of the pad with 3 springs , like a car shock absorber . I m sure it helps with crosstalk ...

I have the so-called " Sandwich Mount "  , that uses 2 rubber gaskets in between them you sandwich your rod ... so everything is done to avoid bleeding from other pads . This is nice as you just have to set the threshold around -40/-36 , and don't have to use Xtalk cancellation .

For the moment , all the Roland or Yamaha simple rubber pads i tried were way too hot to use with the Drumit 5 , unless you add a resistor to lower the gain ...
( Without resistor , It s possible to use the ACC trigger mode that allows a higher gain , but IMO the pad's response is weird...  )

Those Dauz pads have just the right level !!!
... I use them with PAD8 mode , normal curve , -40 threshold , gain between 0 and +3 . At 0db , it s hard to reach level 127 , so that s perfect ...

The pad is hotspoting a bit when you hit it dead center (where the piezo is ), but the response is nice and accurate .
You can place 2 pads on the same mount without having a lot of troubles with crosstalk thanks to the spring insulation design + rubber sandwich mount ... 6" is small and it s easy to fit it anywhere on any kit .

It s quite easy to DIY meshpads with success using existing drum hardware , but when it comes to make reliable small triggers that you want to be able to attach strongly anywhere without crosstalk , it s another story ...

They arent cheap new actually , and not available in Europe , but for a bit more than a PD8 , i think it s worth the extra money if you need something like this .

Just my 2 cents ...

Hi

do you think it could be possible to use those EYEFI Wifi SDcards in our Drumit5 ?   They claim they are fast enough for digital cameras .... they come in 16 or 32 gig Class10

If the card is fast and responsive enough , it could be an cool alternative to the SD extender mod , if it is possible to drag and drop files from a laptop or tablet ...( for people who dont need to swap between cards ) ...

Wifi should be faster than the module's last century's USB1 ....

http://www.eyefi.com/

... and guess what .... even the color is right .... :)  Ok , inside the module it is useless ..

Sensory Percussion uses a combination of sensors to directly capture the vibrations of your entire drum. It is designed to isolate your drum from ambient noise so you can use it on stage and in loud environments. Though it uses multiple sensors, it operates like a traditional phantom-powered mono microphone and uses standard XLR connectors.

Sensory Percussion’s software analyzes the signal from the sensor and can tell where and how you are hitting the drum using our proprietary algorithms, allowing you to map your playing to electronic control. The software supports up to four sensors at a time.

hi folks

i ve bought a Zildjian L80 Low Volume 348 Box Set ... 13" hihat , 14 crash and 18" ride ...

I use a real hihat for a long time with my Ekit but it was way too loud .

Those cymbals  solves the problem of the hihat beeing too loud to play without headphones .

Now i can play with speakers , at a moderate volume , and dont have to worry about neighbours ....

It also solves the latency issue that bothered me , especialy on the ride and Hihat of course as they are analog , but also on the snare and other pads , as i can hear the tap of the sticks on the mesh head ...

I saw a vidéo of a guy , adding some gaffa tape on the meshheads on a silent kit to add some sound ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dPrwL8kRMlw

so i took the idea and it works great ... i get a little attack sound , and it really helps to mask the latency on high tempos ...

I tried to  add some tape ( 2"x2" ) to the bell of the ride , and it also helps to get a little fuller sound ...

IMO , those cymbals arent exactly the same than the GEN16 . I just tested once a 14" hihat and a 18" ride ( bronze serie ) and they were much higher pitched , and lot crisper ...

Of course it s not a full cymbal sound , but for what i do , it s perfect ... and not so expensive

I m quite sure it will also be the perfect solution for AtoE conversion with JMAN's triggers ... Even better than real cymbals , as they are thin  and wont need a lot of plastic to dampen them ...
As they are thin and "full" of holes , they are light to carry ,  and not very expensive , quite the same price than an entry level shitty sounding B8 PST ZBT set ...

And no need to drill to attach the trigger  ...

Hi

I have to refresh my sensor setup ... so i looked over the net , and i found there are copper piezos and also Iron piezos ...  they are more expensive , so i ask myself if they are more solid or something ...

does someone use some of those piezos with success?  or have advices on some good sensors ...

thanx

by the way , i d like to have some feedbacks about how they sound acoustically without the Gen16 brain ... It s difficult to hear on the vidéos you find on the web... seems to be a lot of stick noise compared to the cymbal sound...

i use a regular hihat for the moment , and it s a bit too noisy to play at night ... so maybe this could be a solution for me ...

I live in France ...

I m using a Roland PDX-8 for some times and really like it ....

as the foam/piezo is located on the side , there is no hotspot  and trigger is even and dynamic .  They work a bit like 2BOX design , exept the piezo is under the foam . Unless other Roland designs , It s not a  foam cone but a 15MMx15mm round cylinder , located close to the edge , facing the player ...

2box put the piezo between the foam and the meshhead so they had to put something that prevents you to hit the piezo directly and destroy it ...

With the PDX-8 there is no need to protect the sensor , as the angle prevents you to hit it , and also, it s under the foam , so not as fragile ...

So i decided to redo my toms sensors using the roland PDX-8 design , but with a 27mm Piezo , and a 27mmX16mm foam cylinder ...  I installed it on a "donut like" round piece of 6mm  MDF wood  , fixed on 3 lugs with small L bars ( insulated with rubber washers )

I also put foam all around the 3/4 of the tom , like on 2BOX toms , to damp the meshhead and avoid double triggering ....

Exept cutting the round piece of wood well , it s quite easy to do , and the result os much better that with the center piezo/cone design i use to have ....

I ll post some pics when i will have the final design ...

e-drum DIY / modifications / SM Pro Audio DI8E
May 03, 2012, 11:45:24 PM
HI

While surfing Thomans site , i ve found an interresting product for Us , it s a 8 chanel DI box , with an onboard line line mixer and a headphone amp ....

It means that you can send 8 chanel "dry" to the FOH PA on balanced XLRs , and have your own mix for your monitor or headphone  .... no need for fantom power , the box has is own built in transformer ....

there is a headphone out on the front pannel , and a stereo TRS out at the back of the rack ....

An Auxiliary stereo input is present , but without any volume control  , enough for an ipod that has a volume control , or a micro mixer ...

Every input has an unbalanced jack link output , making easy connections to a recorder for example ...

Thomann price is 195 €

I never had opportunity to test it , but this gear seems to be very versatile and usefull on many occasions , at home , and from small clubs stages to big venues  ...

hi

i noticed there was a problem with the stock Gold 20 Kick DSND ... highest layer had 9 ms of silence before the sound causing latency when you hit hard ....

So i retrimmed the whole stuff in soundforge , removed a layer that sounded weird to my ears and rebuilded it with DSOUNDTOOL ....

You just have to unrar and replace the old one in your kick folder .... here s the link:

cured Gold 20 Kick.rar

by the way Louis , when i tried to make the dsound with a long wav with all hits , i only got one zone with 31 hits.... really strange ....  that s why i used soundforge to trim it .... here the link to the wav file so you can try it if you want and tell me what i did wrong ...  Gold 20 Kick2.wav

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Multilayer LOOPS ??

I thought it could be nice to have the possibility to have a "Multilayer LOOP mode"...

for example , to be able to trigger different versions of a Filtered loop with velocity ....

....What do you think about that ?

Hi Deve ...

How many Drumit 5 modules has been sold ?

.... If it s not a secret , i ll be curious to know how many "Orange E-drummers " we are ...
