Other e-drum systems / Re: New Alesis drum kit
August 24, 2017, 03:22:46 PM
Anyone familiar with their file structure and formats for kits and sounds and samples ?
Maybe they compress more and 200 MB is enough for a decent kit?

From www.alesisdrummer.com:
Strike Kit Files (SKT) contain a table of 24 entries, referencing each trigger zone and the voice settings for each triggered instrument. There's a 2nd kick trigger specified in the file, but I can't find a way to utilize it... my inclination is it exists purely to make the record count even.  There is also a table of the Instruments used. These are stored as SIN files on the external and internal storage.

Strike Instrument Files (SIN) contain a table of velocity ranges and the table of actual sound samples (standard 44100hz/16 bit PCM WAV files) associated with said velocity ranges. There's some other data I'm trying to figure out - I'm guessing most of it is data on how the sound should be played back, looping, whether previous hits have any effect on the next hit, etc.

Good to hear my module development, like 8 years ago, still makes people happy :-)

I am playing drums more than 20 yrs now and was initially reluctant to buy an electronic kit knowing how quickly they loose their value when compared to say a good cymbal. 2box DrumitFive is my first electronic kit and I feel with it I've hit a bullseye and even when there inevitable come its rival from other e-drum maker, I feel confident it will still hold its value with realistic sounds being on par with an acoustic set.

I've have access also to Yamaha and Roland kits but since buying 2box, I occasionally use only their pads and rack (when a small footprint is needed) with DrumitFive module and cymbals.

So, yes Mr. Deve Loper your module is still strong and sound

The Drumit Five has dissapeared from thomann and drum-tec so I think the drumit3 will arrive in the next couple of days or next week :D
Thomann? For which country has Drumit Five dissapeared?
In thomann.de there is still full offer for 2box (except for the single module):

Hi,

I have Tama Iron Cobra. Initially the clutch of 2box pad was too loose for the rod, therefore I took off the gasket from the bolt of the clutch to tighten it. Trying again later I noticed that clutch now can be tightened enough with the gasket on - apparently the bolt needed some 'adaptation' to the hole to move futher in.
So, yes 2box hihat pad fits well on Tama Iron Cobra stand.

If you don't need the 2 extra outputs from the drumit5, why not to choose the new drumit3 ?
It will support better hihats (without adapters) and better 3 zone rides. It is cheaper and will have new sounds in the box.

Hopefully, those sounds will be compatible with Drumit5 too ;)

I believe the module is longer. There are more inputs so they needed more real estate compared to the original PCB. Good eye on the DC in. Could be they have found a better power adapter with this one. The Drumit Five adapter is not a very common type.
Yes, the module is longer, but I doubt that display is larger too, it looks the same size to me.
Out of interest I found an old video from 2015, where DrumitThree was first demoed.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7g4hLLYhjA
That old one module is shorter with 10 inputs and still has a label "AC in" (see in video at about 1:03). So this change apparently was done sometime after 2015.

yes , but il looks a bit bigger than the one on the DRUMITfive unit ...

Is it really bigger? I'm not sure. Even then it's only bigger letters/symbols, I'm Ok with display size on DrumitFive module.

Also I've noticed the label "DC In" on top of the module. Apparently the power supply been changed from 18V transformer to AC/DC PSU.

Another interesting video showing as the Drumit Three works with different brands of pads and cymbals....

Very very interesting!!!

I didn't see anyone notice the biggest drawback when compared to drumitFive - no more orange display light   ???

Sorry JRage. I did not see your update until today, I've been away from the site for a while.
Yes the Green Kingston is still working perfectly well, without any issue. I may look for another while they are probably still available or get one of those 1000x lexars.
Thanks for your reply, anyway. ;)
I've been using this green Transcend 32 GB card for almost a year now and can confirm that I haven't had any problems with it - that applies both to using stock kits as well as custom made kits exceeding 1.5 GB.

To add, the routing of that long extender cable inside the box can affect your triggering. I was experience ghost triggers on my ride until I opened up my unit and relocated the extender cable more carefully - away from the trigger inputs. Secured with duct tape.
+1 to that. After installing extender cable and reassembling the unit for the first time, suddenly the cymbals started to trigger by themselves. Found that sound advice of Coda in forum, rolled up to one side the cable and wrapped it with rubber and problem disappeared.

Setup guides and tips / Re: USB mode no sound

Yes this is true, but if you wanna a cheap option to record drums into a sequencer, a small midi to USB cable is the best and most effective means. Roland do one quite cheap, but cannot remember it's model number. It will have two midi cables (which will connect to the midi out and midi in) of the module and the USB to the module.
The model name is Roland UM-ONE, btw.
