General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Re: new update

If anyone wonders, the version on 2box.se is identical to the one that leaked previously so you don't need to replace it if you already installed 1.26.

It's true that there doesn't seem to be a library featuring the complete range of a particular model of cymbal. for BFD2 Zildjian Digital Vault (all 3 Gen16 packs in a bundle, 50% off until January 31) has a nice selection (list here). Avatar, Metal Foundry and other SDX for Superior Drummer 2 have a whole lot of Sabian.

About Foot Splash, SDSE will add it if it's available for the hats you are exporting. It's available for almost all of Superior Drummer 2 sound libraries, apparently all Addictive Drums libraries, but is not available for almost all of the BFD2 libraries. When it's not available, SDSE will use the most open sound as a substitute (BFD2 seems to do the same, it maps one of the most open sounds as the Foot Splash sound).

Please use the contact form on the site if you have trouble getting started.

Sorry roel, as I told you on page 3 of this thread we are not allowed to do that, Toontrack doesn't allow sharing of those sounds. The next version will support BFD2 so if you're not sure about getting Superior Drummer 2 you can also look into BFD2 and its expansion packs. It's a pitty we can't demo those sounds but maybe people can share tips about their favorite hats.

I changed option 3 in the poll to "Kontakt (Studio Drummer, Abbey Road)". They both use Kontakt Player so if one gets added the other one would follow. It's too bad Steven Slate 4 doesn't work with Kontakt (or does it?)

SDSE includes a simple workaround for the problems you were having with your dsnd, you won't need to worry about that.
With default settings you should be able to export many .dsnd from Superior Drummer 2 and Addictive Drums (and BFD2 in the next version) and not worry about volumes. If you export presets you made, with different settings, it's possible that the volume could be too high but if SDSE detects clipping in Reaper it will abort the current operation and warn you so you can lower the master volume a bit and try again.

If you get SDSE now you'll get all updates, it could change in the future but for now that's the plan :)

You'll need Reaper to export from all supported VSTs including BFD2. You won't have to use Reaper at all, you just need to install it and open the SDSE project in it. Then selecting the instruments you want to export is done in each VST in Reaper so it will look as usual.

Don't hesitate to send me a mail if you need more help getting started.

Hi Burnin Ambition, welcome aboard.

If you are happy with your current dsnd you don't really need to redo them.
But as you point out, if you plan on exporting more sounds it could be worth doing it to get the same names for different versions of the same dsnd. Say you export a whole kit, then export a kit variation by changing settings in BFD2 and filling the "Preset" field in SDSE to 2 or 3 letters like RV for Reverb, you will get the same filenames for both versions of the kit, except your .dsnd with reverb will end with "RV".

To use it, you'll launch SDSE, then in Reaper you'll have to select the parts you want to export in SD2, AD or BFD2 just like you would when setting up a kit, then click "All" or press F1 and SDSE will do the rest.
When it's done you'll find the .dsnd named using the instrument names (with the expansion name appended to the name), and if you exported a full kit a matching .dkit (single kit) for those .dsnd.

BFD2 won the previous poll, SDSE with support for BFD2 is coming very soon.
I edited the poll, you can start voting for the next VST to be supported.
If anyone knows about an interesting drum VST missing from the poll please post.

Hi beppedrum,
The order is not the problem, DSoundTool always saves cymbals using this order and with those names.
When you hit those zones on your cymbal you should get the correct zones.

I just exported this Ride and it's ok here, something must have happened but from your screenshots your file is the correct size and with the correct amount of layers.
What seems to be the problem with the dsnd?

Hi Perico,

You don't need Toontrack solo and EZplayer to export sounds, you just need Superior Drummer.

It looks like you may not have set your VST plugins path in Reaper, to do so:
press CTRL+P in Reaper to open the Preferences window, scroll down to "VST", click "Add" to browse to the folder where you have installed the Superior Drummer dll (C:\Program Files\VstPlugins or C:\Program Files (x86)\VSTPlugins if you use the 32bit version of Reaper on a 64bit OS). Click "Re-scan", then Apply. Close Reaper, open it again and see if it loaded SD2.
(I'm sending you a mail)

Thanks for the feedback. If you have any suggestions or requests about support for AD don't hesitate to send a mail.
The next VST to be supported will be the one voted in the poll... ;)

Looking at my backup of the SD card, and if you have the same version of that content, you get 150MB free and 460MB free if you delete the .wav files found in the Song folder.

Storing more kits will depend on their size, it can vary a lot.
With most of the extra kits/parts from the 2Box site it fit on my 4GB card by removing some .wav tracks.
But if you're planning to add very big kits you'll soon have to remove parts you don't use to make room.

An average kit from Superior Drummer 2 is about 600MB based on averages from my folders, with 2 crashes and 4 toms it's close to 700MB.

You'll be fine with 4GB for a couple extra kits, and it may be possible to fit 3 big kits from Superior and still have room for a couple of stock kits and a few .wav tracks to play along as long as you're ready to remove a lot of stock content from the card.

SDSE 1.2.0 is now available with support for Addictive Drums

Exporting whole kits or single instruments from Addictive Drums using SDSE 1.2 is done in one click and with the same set of features as exporting from Superior Drummer 2 using SDSE. .dsnd files are named using the original instrument names (also optionally the library name) and a .dkit file is created when you export a full kit.

The first post is updated with the list of supported Superior Drummer 2 and Addictive Drums libraries.

Here is the list of changes since 1.0
  • support for Addictive Drums
  • support for more Superior Drummer 2 libraries
  • support for Windows Vista and Superior Drummer 2.2.3
  • improved shrink filename replacements
  • quickstart prompt for first time users
  • rendered regions can be selected manually for unsupported VSTs
  • to help migrate your settings when you update to a new version of SDSE configuration is now split in several files
  • fixed special case with MusicCity
  • compatibility with older versions of Reaper 4 before 4.25

To Update to this new version from an existing installation:
- extract the new version in your current SDSE folder, overwrite all files (your configuration won't be overwritten)
- if you only made changes to the main configuration in SDSE.ini and didn't change filename replacements or SDX short names you can safely delete all sections of SDSE.ini after "[Parameters]".

Hi Perico, I regrouped all the information in the first post now, with a typical usage example. For more information please refer to the included documentation. Don't hesitate to send me an email if you have any question.

You may have already done it but just in case, the first thing I would do is double check the Java version. Sometimes you can have several versions of Java installed on the same computer. If you didn't try it already, uninstall all versions and install the 32 or 64-bit version from here.
I'm sending you an email with a possible solution.

To get rid of the highest snare velocities you could adjust the velocity in SD2 by lowering the left slider on the mapping page.
It's a matter of preference so you may not be bothered by it. In SD2 if you listen to the highest velocities by clicking at the bottom of the mapping page then compare to the sounds if you set the Snare to rimshot you'll see that they are not the same samples. To me it sounds like a snare receiving the most brutal hits and not exactly rimshots but it's true that the highest velocities sound different and contain the same resonance as rimshot sounds.

With 4GB of RAM it will work for sure if you export one hihats dsnd at a time.
When you have exported several dsnd, make sure to close DSoundTool and open it again to get back free RAM. Also make sure to close any program that could be using RAM before exporting.
