Tune 0 is the same as "disabled", it's the default setting to keep the best sound quality. To get a smaller file than with 0/disabled you would need to set it to 4 for instance. The setting is used to be able to tune up the dsnd on the module but in this case it would just be to use the side effect from it, producing smaller files (increasing max tune up decreases the dsnd file size)
For the hihat you can also try the setting to reduce the amount of articulations (open levels) in SDSE Options > Zones, Hats, Maximum articulations.
DSound Manager can also be used to remove articulations from an existing dsnd (double click the dsnd to open it, uncheck some zones click save as), or to shorten the length of the samples from existing dsnd files. It can be combined to get smaller files, on the Tune page you can set both a max tune of 4 and a maximum length then click Tune to create a smaller dsnd.

Hi, I wish I could have replied to this sooner, I only saw your message now!

It's better to keep it in 24-bit for the export, the resulting .dsnd instruments will contain 16-bit samples in any case so it's not related to that.

Here's what you can try to solve latency:
- try changing the Decay from "infinite" to 10 for all pieces in your kit, it was found to help a lot.
- try setting "Max tune up" to 4 in SDSE Options > Convert to get smaller dsnd files. Creating a dsnd with the tune up allows to pitch up the .dsnd on the module, at the cost of reducing the sound quality a bit, but with the side effect of reducing the file size which can help. If you'd like it's possible to use DSound Manager to batch convert dsnd files to any max tune up setting (it creates new files).
- also possible but shouldn't be needed: you can reduce the maximum samples length on the second Samples page in the SDSE Option. You could try to reduce it for the cymbals and hihat.
- if the above didn't solve it check the SD card, some cards work better than others (there's a SD card compatibility thread here)

I hope that helps!

It's already there in DKit Manager, it's "Metr" on the third Unit page. Click on the Sounds tab on the left to browse for sounds. You can preview the sound by double clicking on it (or pressing Space). Then drag and drop any dsnd from the list of sounds to the Metr button or the text field next to it and it will be used as the Metronome sound. You can also type a dsnd name directly, it will be displayed in red if the dsnd file wouldn't be found.

Thanks for telling me about this Dobly!
It happened because the Metronome sound is not part of any Kit settings, it's a Unit setting on the module, so it wasn't considered to be used by the selected kits. In the new version it will keep the Metronome dsnd set in the Unit settings.

A new version of DrumIt Manager is available.

changelog:

  • DKit Manager Delete: when cleaning up a SD card to remove dsnd files that are only used by the selected kits the Metronome dsnd set in Unit settings will be kept - thanks to Dobly for reporting this

Hi

It looks like the destination path is not available, which is odd since it's located on the desktop by default. I would open the SDSE options and on the first page change "Destination Path" to a folder that can be written to. Ideally it should have plenty of free space.

When exporting from Superior Drummer make sure to keep the mapping set to Default in the SD3 settings (it shouldn't be set to 2box DrumIt for instance)

I hope that helps, otherwise don't hesitate to send me a mail!

A new version of DrumIt Manager is available.

You can now change the order of layers in dsnd instruments.
This version also adds a menu to edit zones, an easy way to add a tight level to a new or existing hihat dsnd and accessibility improvements when using NVDA.

The idea to duplicate a closed hihat level as a tight level with a different pitch to get two closed levels was originally from the one and only Jman, and Anders suggested it again recently.

Thanks to tsss27 and ANGR77 for testing!

DSound Manager Zone menu
You can right-click on buttons to open a zone menu:
- Duplicate, to be able to edit the new zone before saving. You can duplicate a single percussion zone and adjust its pitch to get an alternate sound on the rim.
- Duplicate (virtual), to save space. You can adjust how a HiHat will play by adding more levels without increasing the file size or changing the HiHat calibration.
- Duplicate Closed as Tight. to create Tight zones from Closed zones in one step.

- Velocity switch from zone 2 to zone 3, to convert a three zones dsnd to a two zones dsnd that turns from a zone to another for the high velocities.
- Velocity switch from zone 3 to zone 2.
The switch percentage is 85% and can be adjusted on the Create page if needed (it uses the last switch setting when selecting Velocity Switch)

- Import (add) to add it as a new zone.
- Import (add foot splash), only for hihats.
- Import (replace) to replace the selected zone.
With Import (add) the zone is added in the same way as with Duplicate, to the available position or to the next position for a HiHat.
The pitch of the imported zone is adjusted to sound the same as in the imported dsnd in case it has a different max tune.

Sort options, can be used to fix or improve layer order. It can also be useful after importing zones from another dsnd to get the same velocity curve for all zones.
- Sort by loudness: sort zone layers by loudness.
- Sort by volume: sort by peak volume.
- Sort by loudness (all): sort all zones by loudness.
- Sort by volume (all): sort all zones by peak volume.

Edit name: type a new name for the selected zone. Zone names are only used for display, they are not used by the module.
Reset names: set all zones to default names based on the type of .dsnd, like Head/Rim for a snare or Bell/Bow/Edge for a cymbal.

DSound Manager, adjust the order of layers
Click on the layer information button on the right of the Edit page to open the detailed layer view for a zone.
Change the order of the layers with drag and drop or with Ctrl+Up or Ctrl+Down.

Changelog:

  • DSound Manager Create: option to add Tight level using the Closed level (it's duplicated with a higher pitch. if all open levels are filled the second to last level is removed)
  • DSound Manager Edit Zone menu: right-click or press the Apps key on zone buttons to import a zone from another dsnd, duplicate the zone or sort it by volume or loudness.
Duplicate: can be used to add more open levels to a HiHat to adjust how it plays, to add a tight level or to add alternate zones with a different pitch.
Velocity switch: merge the second and third zones, useful to convert a 3 zones dsnd to a 2 zones dsnd that turns from a zone to another for the high velocities.
Import: import a zone from another dsnd, add as a new zone or replace the selected zone.
Sort: sort zone by peak volume or loudness, can be used to fix or improve layer order.
Sort (all): sort all zones by peak volume or loudness, useful after importing zones from another dsnd to get the same velocity curve for all zones.
Edit zone names: rename zones to your liking (zone names are only used for display, they are not used by the module).
Reset zone names: set all zone names to default values (Head/Rim, Bell/Bow/Edge).
  • DSound Manager Edit: use drag and drop or press Ctrl+Up or Ctrl+Down to move the current layer or selected layers in the list, useful to fix the order when some layers feel too loud or too quiet.
  • DSound Manager Edit: added tooltip to show which layer is played when clicking on the Zone buttons (same as in DKit Manager on Drum buttons: low to high velocities from left to right)
  • DSound Manager Edit: allow saving changes to a duplicate zone, useful when creating a dsnd from the same samples with different filenames and adjusting the duplicate zone separately.
  • DSound Manager Edit: fixed wrong zone information when saving some 3 zone snares.
  • DSound Manager Create: fixed Maximize when converting from individual .wav files not sorted from loud to quiet.
  • DSound Manager Tune: saving a dsnd that contains virtual zones won't increase the file size (they will remain as virtual zones)
  • DSound Manager Extract: fixed issue with some dsnd files when extracting the last layer of a 128 layers zone.
  • DKit Manager Kit: fix to play the same zone as the module when assigning a 3 zone snare dsnd to a tom pad.
  • DKit Manager Kit: fix to save correct Sound setting (dsnd zone selection for a pad) when using NVDA or JAWS.
  • DKit Manager, DSound Manager: allow freely editing up-down settings.
  • DKit Manager, DSound Manager: fixed slowness when changing some settings when using NVDA.

Here's how to import all your Unit settings from an old kit bank to a new kit bank with DKit Manager:
- double click in the explorer to open the new kit bank
- on the first Unit page click Import at the bottom
- browse and select the old kit bank
- click Save to save the changes to the new kit bank, or Save as to save as a new file

Hi Sibblon,

You can select your preferred snare sounds in SDSE Options > Zones
To export the sidestick sound as the second snare zone you can set the Snare Rim option to sidestick (click on rim and select sidestick instead). If the sidestick is not available in the sound library you're exporting from it will fall back to rim.
You can also set it to export both the sidestick and rim as the second dsnd zone and switch from the sidestick to the rim sound after a certain percentage (to do this, set Snare Rim to sidestick, rim and 85% for instance)
If you have a 3 zones snare pad and a DrumIt 3 or DrumIt 5 MKII you can set it to export to a 3 zones .dsnd with head/sidestick/rim (set Snare Rim to sidestick, rim, and "-")
There's also a setting to export an additional snare articulation as a second .dsnd if you'd like to export a regular snare and have the sidestick as a separate .dsnd (in this case keep Snare Rim set to rim, check Snare articulations and set it to sidestick)

I hope that helps!

DSoundTool would be the way to go then, it works on Mac. DSound Manager can run on Mac but with Parallels or Virtualbox. It may also just work with Wine (DKit Manager doesn't work with Wine though).

It's good to know about the SD cards.

There's only a gain setting for the cymbal bell in the Unit settings so it's not possible to adjust the volume of all cymbal zones from the module itself. But you could try to lower the gain of the cymbal and increase the bell gain. It would apply to all kits so even though the bow may be too low it may be more convenient if it gets you closer to your ideal settings.

Once you have a good starting point that works for most cymbals it's always possible to adjust the volumes in the dsnd files with DSoundTool or DSound Manager. You could lower the volume of the edge compared to the other zones, or increase the bow and bell. I would always save as a new dsnd file because adjusting the volume is done directly on the samples.

with DSoundTool: open DSoundTool, click File > Open, browse to find the dsnd, adjust the volumes, click File > Save as
with DSound Manager: double click on the dsnd file in the Windows file explorer, adjust the volumes, Save as
or from a kit in DKit Manager: right click on a pad button, select Edit to open the dsnd in DSound Manager

For the Speedlight hihat there's also a way to keep only a single zone in your hihat dsnd files. It can be used to save space on the card or to avoid selecting the zone you need every time with the Sound setting on the module.
with DSound Manager: double click on the dsnd file in the Windows file explorer, uncheck all the zones you don't need, Save as
