General 2Box Drumit 3 Forum / Re: Storage Expansion Mod
January 09, 2019, 10:58:54 PM
Just to iterate this topic. If you put 32gig into the module without the ribbon extender, DO NOT use USB mode ever. Which means you'll have to load all the sounds onto the card first. But after any changes you'll make will need you to take the card out (dismantling the unit to do so in order to obtain the card) to do on your computer.
Seriously, the card extender is the best way to go. It's little money and will make things a lot simpler when you want to file exchanges. Talk to Jman here, he'll hook you up!

DrumIt 5 Hardware / Re: Trigger settings for trigit
January 06, 2019, 01:55:51 AM
I had double triggering with a silent stroke and a drumit5. So I raised the mask time, no double triggering.

But...

It didn't catch flams and really fast press rolls. The simplest solution? get some foam to line the inside of the shell, about 1.5 inches thick all the way around. I did, lowered the mask time and threshold and it was great after!!

General 2Box Drumit 3 Forum / Re: Yamaha PCY-135
January 02, 2019, 01:01:48 AM
I had this with 2 x PCY13 (one of which was brand new) and a second hand PCY15. Do you find the edge crashes almost granteed if you straight between bow and edge, you know, like just where it becomes bell?

After talking with Bengt in 2box, I gave up on it in the end and went with a Jobeky ride cymbal as he said testing didn't show this.

What will you be plugging into it, by which I mean pads. I haven't heard anting about dirty triggering. Most issues are solved with setting adjustments!

Wow... that's a GREAT set up. I have said it before, but I'll say it again.

The sounds you chose are decent enough, great live kit for a punchy dry sound, but there's a lot of much better ones out there if you go looking ;)

I'd like to see more from you doing this kinda thing.

I had a pair of 5a Carbostick (totally carbon fibre) while in residency in Abu Dhabi between 2004 and 2007. I was playing on an Ddrum4 complete kit. They cost about £15 I don't think I broke a single one! Well, until I started playing back on acoustic drums, then they broke! Hihats and rimshots on bare rims eventually got them. That was some value. Looks like they're not made anymore otherwise I''d still be using them.

Edico (I think I got his name right) did this test and found no loss in sound quality from VST to Module. There was some chatter about how there was on the drumit5 and there were some tips regarding tuning range when making DSDN's that either limited or solved this issue.

Having heard some of his SD3 rips on the drumit3 on Soundcloud and youtube etc and not being able to compared them side by side, they're certainly very very good. So even if there is a loss of audio quality, I'd wager it's very very small!

I have done some ripping from SD2, EZ drummer 2 and even the Steven Slate D5 free version and they sound great on the drumit3. But I cannot say unless side by side whether there's any loss of audio quality.

Drumit app probably does some compression in data to fit all the layers into one file (I am guess of course) so perhaps that has something to do with audio quality loss.

Thought I would just give my comments as no one else has chimed in yet.

I can confirm, 3zone Yamaha pad and settings is the only way to get 3 zones from a single snare channel on the PadPY trigger setting. You also have to have a special 3zone dsdn sound made. The older Yamaha TP120 is what I am using and it's working great! The XP120 apparently works just as well but I haven't tried it.

I have an Jobeky 13" snare lying around and was gonna implement it with a BT-1 for side stick sounds, but never got around to it. Maybe just to mix things up a little, I'll try that and report how it faired.

General 2Box Drumit 3 Forum / Re: Choke

I have never known about the choke function stopping if you alter hold and decay. Never have need to adjust these, I guess I would never have found out. Glad you got it sorted.
#461
Yeah, it would. You'd still not have 3zone cymbals, but maybe that's not a biggy for you. You could have Edge and Bow on crashes and Bell/Bow on rides, along with the Zummann box that's what a mate of mine done and he's pretty happy with it.

The main difference is The Drumit3 took the playback engine of the 5 but added a more universal trigger interface so that Roland/Yamaha/Alesis hihat and cymbals in general work. It's only the hihat where this is more black and white where you cannot use a Roland Hat system with the drumit5 (unless you buy the Zumann box as a work around) Roland cymbals work on the Drumit5 but you have to compromise a little. i.e. Have bow edge only, not bow edge and bell etc.
You also get a clean pad/rimshot separation in the snare as opposed to Pad+Rim triggering. But the three no longer has channel buttons on the panel for previewing sounds, but can still be done by selecting the channel manually and pressing "trig" But it was more user friendly having it laid out in with LEDs.
It has 2 less outputs. But with some configuration you can make the Drumit3 have 6 outputs utilising the headphone out as outputs 5 and 6. But know the drumit5 can be configured to have 8 though.
That's it in a nutshell, all the sounds can be played on both and they both can be modified to have a 32gb storage upgrade with an external card reader.
#463
You can also config the headphone out to be effectively 5+6 too! It’s a work around but it works!
#464
So you want to record live too?
#465
You probably would be better off to make multisample of the sounds in the VSTs you like. Less to go wrong, issues of lag won't be an issue (I know there's meant to reduce/eliminate this) and less to carry round. Also triggering VST hats, getting the choke function working, is a bit of a headache.
I wanted to work VSTs live but figured I'd just make samples of the kits I like and put them on the module, pretty happy with it.
