Greetings.
So a few weeks back I bought a TD15 cheap and a Jobeky real feel ecymbal hihat controller. Still cost about £600 all told to experiment on something which had been bugging me, namely some latency happening on the 2box kit when using a full kit (not just triggering drums) and playing certain patterns, namely anything with syncopated ride patterns with pedal hats on 8th notes, that sorta thing.
So I thought, well if the module is struggling to deal with all this, I am one of the few that has had issues so maybe it's just luck I got an iffy module. Anyway I thought I'd try lightening its load with a second module for hats, what's the worst that could happen and I'd have a load more inputs? I also liked the look of the Jobeky hihats, one happened to come up on eBay, also TD15. (Addressed on another post)
But without going into whether this worked or not, one thing that I noticed playing a 2box pad into that Roland Module is that I find sounds MUTE sometimes, only sometimes. I was using the 12" snare pad with mylar head and then with a Remo silent stroke. Random muted sound. It was on the snare input on the Roland module then floor tom, both with same results. I have never heard anyone say about this before.

Anyone have an idea? Is there an aftertouch setting I should be turning off or something?

Does anyone else find the cymbals double trigger 50% of the time on the bow? Rides and crashes alike. Even if you set mask time to 6 (or whatever the highest setting is) still happens. Its not really bothered me that much especially live as you don't notice is because they're so close together, but it's there and you can see on midi if you record into a DAW.

Or is it just mine? I was playing a mate's kit a few weeks back and even though I wasn't specifically looking for it, I am sure it didn't happen.

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Rack Feet
March 30, 2017, 12:52:22 AM
I have only gone and lost one of the orange rack feet haven't I? Anyone know where I can get a new one. The usual course would be to contact 2box but apparently support has been suspended (according to a chap in Norway I was chatting to) who contacted them about a failed kick drum pad...

Hope they're okay.

This might be an odd one for you all to help me with. But here's my thoughts.
2box module main pluses for me.
1. Sounds. Unlimited.
2. Small
3. Not expensive.
4. Easy to use.
Cons.
1. poop triggering. But mostly manigable.
2. Crappy hihat
3. Latency when many pads are played.
4. Lack of trigger inputs.

When triggering a live snare with a Mylar head, rim shot (every 2 and 4 beat for me) is inconsistent. You hear flams between head and rim and sometimes what I can only call "spikes" in the output of snare. Like it's triggering the snare and rim twice each at a slightly higher amplitude. Have checked this with other sounds and you can hear a "phasing" of the sample. No amount of adjusting mask time or any other settings prevents this.

So was contemplating getting a Roland brain (td 15 going cheap on eBay) with a vh12, maybe something for the ride too, and plugging that into mix in of 2box module.

That covers hat issue and frees up and input.
Triggering a snare drum via midi (Roland to 2box) with a mesh head with a Roland trigger (or similar) As the Roland td15  does do a decent rim shot. Obviously having no sound on the Roland module as to not get a mash up.

Would that work? Or am I setting myself up for more hassle. I can't try this stuff out unless I buy it all so would like a heads up if I'm off.

Maybe I'd still have latency issues via midi? Is the 2box having issues with plaguing the sound and triggering at the same time or is it just trying to play the sound is what's a problem.

I don't wanna be forking out thousands on a new module set up so trying to have work arounds. I still love the module but I do have gripes with it which I wish they'd fix.

Any thoughts to the strike pro audio brief audio demo up on YouTube? Personally it sounds a lot better than their more recent offerings, but it's not really any more realistic than the 2box kit, if anything, it's not quite as realistic. To me anyway. But I'm waiting on the official derrick roddy demo coming soon.

Drumit Next Gen / My two penneth worth.

A few more trigger inputs, actual rimshot not snare and rim together, bigger memory and better processor to handle lots of notes at the same time without notiable latency. Surprised latency is an issue with hardware. Expect it off software on computers, it's to be expected, but hardware?

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Snare lag/latency
October 07, 2016, 10:40:03 PM
I have been noticing snare latency/lag when playing live. Generally it's fine but every now and again, I notice a latency on the snare only. I am not in Unit mode or with the deeper Kit menus as I know that affects it, always in "Kit name" mode.
When it happens I have notice its when I am playing rimshot (snare and rim together) and often when I am playing ride with hihat pedals on 8th notes at med-med/high tempos. Is this a constraint of the module's processor unable to process lots of notes/samples at once? It's starting to bug me to be honest as I at odds to find a solution.
Try it yourself, play broken 16ths on ride, 8th pedal hats and rim shots at fast tempos and tell if you get it too. Maybe I have an iffy module?

Hey guys,
I finally started gigging the full kit recently, used the brain to trigger from acoustic drums on a few tours but never the entire kit. And I thought I'd ask something that's bugged me a little since I have had it (4 years now)
Doesn't anyone else find even at 0 gain on the 14" cymbal inputs still too hot? I am getting the bell sound on the bow when I don't want and I am not hitting that hard.
Also, I have found I occasionally get a very close "flam" on single hits on the ride and hats. It's so close you can hard notice, but having recorded midi many times I can confirm it's there. Mask time doesn't seem to fix it, even at high settings.

A few years ago, I downloaded a small program that took a dsnd file and inspected it, it would pinpoint any errors, volume issues, silences at the start etc... Anyone know if that's still available. I converted a set of tom sounds from a VST, I went the long way around it and didn't use SDSE and for some reason two of the toms are very very quiet compared to the rest, it's nothing to do with the volume of the pad, I've obviously sampled it quieter than the others. Rather than go through the whole thing again, if that little was still about perhaps it could just fix it and save it.
Thanks in advance.

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / 2box Hihat controller.
September 20, 2016, 09:29:09 PM
We can all agree the weakest link with the drumit 5 is the hihat, that being said it works good enough for me but just wanted to ask if everyone does this.
Hitting the bow should always give zone 4
Hitting the edge should always give zone 8
Pedal should always be Zone 9

But med to hard hits on bow will give Zone 8.
If it was just a thing of the cross talk and the display showing the weaker of the zones, I wouldn't be bothered, but sonically you can tell it's zone 8!

The only way to always get Zone 4 is to play the bell of the hats. I was to understand that the edge (zone 8) is achieved by a switch, like it is on 14" cymbals.

Like I say, it bothers me only a little and I am okay with it. But as some point I will look to perhaps use a different controller (maybe a roland with the 42box, or whatever it's called, gizmo) if it can cleanly give me edge and bow when I actually play them.

Hello folks...
Over the years I have downloaded many new sounds, made many of my own etc and saved the old ones that came with the kit on a hard drive... which has been lost or stolen, I am not sure. For a while I wasn't bothered as I didn't need them and assumed they'd be on the website, alas not.
So does anyone know where I can get them?
Any advice or help would be very much appreciated.

OK so like I said in an earlier thread, my 12" is Kaput and needs repair (pending bits from 2box which are taking ages for them to sort out!!!) So having a spare 12" mesh head, 12" soprano drum and a bunch of trig it triggers, I decided to use all that instead. So after set up, here's what I found were problems.

Mesh head needs to be tightened (so hoop is really low) so much that the trigit mounts but the rim sensor doesn't pick up because it's not touching the hoop.

Loosen it up so it touches, mesh head feels as loose as a fat whore's minge!

Other problems, double triggering. Raise the mask time, no double triggering but forget about rolls and flams.

So, Solutions.

First I cut an old used 12" head off its hoop and placed just the hoop on top of the mesh hoop as a spacer. Then I cut a small piece of towel up to mute the mesh head. Tip for anyone doing this is to assemble it on the floor facing down. Drum hoop first with lug screws in, spacer hoop next, mesh head then cut out piece of towel next laid across the diameter of the mesh head, place the drum on next lining up the lug screws to the lugs enough to keep the towel in place. Place upright and tighten up drum head.

At first you'll notice the drum hoop is a lot higher above the playing surface then normal, because of the spacer. But if the mesh head is as slack as mine, you can tighten right up enough to make it look normal. The mesh head will be super tight, super muted and with the trigit will play perfectly without any mask time needed. I'd include a pic but it's not so easy to do on here.

Any questions, hit me up here!

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Mesh head muffling?
July 17, 2016, 10:32:16 PM
Hello everyone
My 12" 2box pad is in bits (piezos broken) and I am hoping to get new bits from Sweden for it soon. In the meantime I have a 12" Tama soprano snare that I stuck a mesh head on and a trigit trigger thinking it would be easy peasy.... Alas not.
I have tried all trigger types and combinations of gain, threshold and mask time and cannot get a really nice tracking like the 12" pad.
It appears I might have to muffle the head a lot or perhaps get a triple ply head of some kind. Anyone else have an issue. The main issue is double trigging. Raise the mask time enough and it goes, but forget about ghost notes, rolls and flams!

Hello,
Anyone try using an external effects processor with the 2box module? As you are all aware, the internal effects is limited to flange and delay, pretty useless if you ask me. I have always wanted to have dry by really dynamic sounds but using a powerful effects processor for ambient and compression. On the ddrum 4 it was simple as you could assign different levels to separate outputs so say 1+2 could be the main mix, 3 could be an effect send so on each drum (say snare and toms) you could send different levels of each down output 3 into a processor then out of that into as stereo return on the desk. In the 2box instance, the return of the effect processor could be routed into the AUX input. I just haven't figured out to route a sound out of a third effects sent independently of a mix. If the FX buss could be routed to on of the 6 outputs, that would be the ticket.

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Trigit snare settings
January 05, 2016, 04:49:13 AM
Hello,
I have an issue (apart from breaking the connections, but that's on another thread) with triggering the 2box module with the trigit triggers on an acoustic snare with a Mylar head.
The settings are thus...
Acc 1,
Gain 0
Threashold - 36
Mask - 2

Rim - gain 0
Threshold - 16
Mask - 6

Not 100% on these but it's about that.

The problem?

Well playing on the centre of the drum, no issue. Tracks flams, rolls etc fine.

But I rim shot every back beat of a groove and what comes out is very inconsistent. Slight rim shots, ie if I'm not LEATHERING IT, can vary from an almighty "whack" with some audio phasing, to just a whimper of a note.

If I LEATHER every back beat, it's almost as inconsistent. It's difficult to convey in words what I mean. But I've set the gain right, IE hardest hits register a 0db value. I've tried setting it higher, and lower. Different mask times, higher threasholds, acc 2 as well as 3 (which is awful for snare anyway unless you don't okay anything faster than a 16th note at 120 sorta thing)

I recall I had the same issue with pintech trigger perfect triggers. Maybe even the Ddrum ones too, can't remember.

Don't have it with the 12" snare pad though.

Anyone else had/have this?

Just curious, does anyone else have issues with the rotary dials? Turnin clockwise up voices only to see it skip back 5 not forward. And vise versa? It's random, sometimes I skips several increments, others just the one or two. Other times, it doesn't move at all. I was wondering if it's a dust on the contact issue or something. I've only ever used my module so I've nothing to compare it to.

Hello people,
I have posted a topic on this before but am still trying to get full function of the hihat with superior drummer. I have got it to a stage where I have open, closed on the edge and hi hat pedal sounds. But nothing I do gives me foot splash and top hat sounds from open and closed. I can set superior drummer to set a top sound on the top of the hats but when I do, I lose the span from open and closed, just top sound.
Also, anyone know how to get a choke function? I get a choke sound when I choke the cymbal but without a hit. So when I hit a crash, I choke it, but get a cymbal being choked sound instead of the first crash just muting. I am sure all this can be done, but I am struggling to figure it out.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I am kinda new to the using the 2box to control virtual instruments, so I could use some tips. I want to trigger Superior drummer or Ez drummer from the 2box. Kicks, snares and toms are no issue. But I wondering how much hassle would it be to use the hihat function? I noticed that both these drum plugins use modulation to open the hats sound (the same as 2box) but when I set the midi note on the hats to fire the Ez drummer/Superior drummer plugin, it doesn't open and close when the hihat does. So what I am doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Does anyone know of an effective and reliable set of acoustic triggers?

I've had every single range of ddrum. Including the new nor so super duper chrome elite. The same story on all. Give it a few weeks of nightly gigging (I'm touring uk extensively and have been since October) and you find a complete failure of a trigger or the intermittent kind. In the latter case the triggering will come and go and upon inspection and pressing the transducer into the sponge, you'll hear machine gun triggering meaning the connection had broken and as it's being pressed it's connecting and disconnecting really fast, hence machine gun effect.

I took a gamble on the recommendation of the chap in the chat screen for Pintech with a set of their perfect triggers. There's a lot I admire, fast transducer replacement and a generally better build being the main ones. The down side, they just don't trigger half as well. Lots of double triggers and I've messed with the settings a lot. I had to dampen the drums a lot to combat this, which I didn't have to do with ddrum.

I've spent a lot of money and a lot of time trying things out and I'm still lost for an answer.

I'm thinking to just have to constantly buy the replacement ddrum transducers periodically and make my own mount with sprung connectors for fast replacement on the gig. As they do work the best but just don't last.

I've emailed 2box for advise with no reply. I've also emailed pintech for advise of setup for their triggers as he claimed he'd sold lots to disgruntled ddrum customer. So he must have some idea of set up tips. As it stands, most of them are still in the packets not having been opened.

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Triggering Acoustic Drums
October 12, 2013, 10:34:00 AM
Hello 2box people!

I am about to go on tour with a rock and roll show (www.circusofhorrors.co.uk) and was wanting to trigger the drums, in part to save channels on the desk as we have a limitation this tour, and to get that massive, Rob Zombie type drum sound (I haven't even gotten to what samples on the 2box brain to use yet) Also, I fear the engineer isn't gonna be up to scratch and being a soundman myself, I notice drums are usually the thing that suffers most when someone doesn't have a decent set of ears on them.
Anyway, need to get some triggers. Ddrum pro triggers are the industry standard but I bought a set in 2004 to use with a Ddrum 4 mondule and it worked a charm. But after a month, they all broke and with the same issue (one of the wires braking off the transducer) Clavia (the founder and owners of Ddrum at that time) sent me a load of new transducers, but after a while, they all broke too. So I was seriously put off triggering live, until now. I know people who have had these for years and never had an issue. So was I subject of a bad batch or are they generally not very reliable?
They have since brought out the DDT which have double transducers incase of an failure, so is this is a common issue.
Are there any better alternatives? Bear in mind, I will not being using mesh heads, they'll be trigger from mylar heads (albeit heavily muffled for improved triggering)
Is it possible to achieve fairly accurate triggering with triggers and the 2box module?
Thanks for any advice in advance!
