Hi there. My components came in today! Thanks to Tony and Jman. Must wait a cpl of weeks (my 2-Box is the shop-model, was in the shop for just 2 weeks and in good shape) and I can still decide to swap it for a new one when new stock arrives (2-4 weeks from now).

Thank you for the explaination, edtc. Never realized the donut shape has so many advantages.

Just a question ... I wonder. A 10 inch 2-Box pad costs 137 euro at Thomann in Germany where a PDX-8 costs 189 euro. Unless you have a supply of PDX-8's, what is the benefit besides the cover to protect the piezo on the 2-Box pads?

I tried the PDX-8 on my former Roland TD-3 but disliked the big 2 inch wide ring between head and rim. Bought a 2nd hand PD-125 and live happily ever after until Prince 2-Box came in my life ;)

* dusting of this topic *

As I posted on a Dutch drum-forum: If Yamaha is Microsoft and Roland is Apple then 2-Box is Linux.

DrumIt 5 Hardware / Re: HiHat Protection-Rim

Maybe the hight of the hats make a difference. I used to be a lumberjack when my hats were positioned higher then I do now. The higher the hats the more you hit the neck of the stick on the sharp edge of the hat ... I hope this makes sense cause it is rough translation of my Dutch thoughts on this subject.

I would imagine accepting higher rates of throughput (UHS Class 1) on the current SD socket would require installing an upgraded SD socket, I doubt this is a change that could be made through flashing a rom chip or an O/S update.  It is possible in theory if the module's SD slot is SDXC compatible, but I doubt it is considering the USB port isn't even v2.0  :-[.

SDXC also uses exFAT rather than FAT32 file system, so that may also be an issue as the 2Box uses FAT32 right?  I think exFAT is required to read above the 32GB limit of FAT32, hence the larger card sizes possible with SDXC.

So in short I doubt this can be done, but if the module is to change in any way, I cannot see any good argument as to why they would not just install a 30gb or 60gb SSD.  Add USB 2.0 or 3.0, all problems solved  :animal:.

It is a long time since I was involved in the actual components and your reply makes a lot of sense. We may expect a Brain MkII sooner or later. However, our Brain is still up to it's tasks.  :D

You're welcome  8) ..... Personally I worry that with the constant improvements and changes in SDHC cards we will still be able to find New cards that will work well with the 2Box module within a year or 2. That's one of the reasons I've bought quite a few, since I know these work.

Or 2-Box improves the Brains hardware interfacing. Any clue if the IO controller controlling the memory is flash as well?

Please take in account that compared to most other digi-kits the default sounds are very good. But you might get used to it. For me, I'm still blown away by the dynamics on the toms, hats and cymbals.

Thank you Jman, bought that card.  :animal:

Hi guys, I bought one of Tony's extender cables via ebay and looking now to a Class 10 SDHC. JMan's approved cards seems to become obsolete ... what do I exactly have to look for? Is x133 speed, class 10 sufficient?

I have been scouting the web to locate webshops selling 2-Box parts like mesh-heads, toms and spare rubbers for the cymbals.

So far only http://www.thomann.de seems to be stocked with 2-box parts. Are there more shops?

For the past 2 weeks I learned I will not regret the step to sell my old TD3 and not follow the V-drum path anymore. The sounds and feel of the 2-Box are remarkable.

A couple of years ago the first 2-Box was subject to a flame-war on a Dutch drum forum. The Roland and Yamaha addicts refused to give 2-Box a chance. Too small as initiative, inferior frame etcetera etcetera. In those days I was already interested in the Brain and considered hooking it up to my TD3 (with TD-125 snare). But having bought the whole kit makes it feel much better.

The most fanatical opponents of the 2-Box cooled down, still the 2-Box does not have it's own board on the Dutch forum. Tucked away under 'Other kits' I opened a MkII item on September 17th, 2011.

2-Box feels a bit like Apple. Early adapters appreciate the quality and performance where the mainstream follows the other big brands. The major difference between 2-Box and Apple is the pricing policy. Let's hope they keep it that way. Thank you for reading, have a great day.  :animal:

Kalimera BA, tikanis? I'm from The Netherlands and my Drum English is 'spotty'.

Can you be more specific about the pain? Was it muscle pain because your muscles were overstressed by different sticks with more weight then your hands are used to handle? Or do the longer sticks have a rebound that hits back on your wrists and finger joints. How is your grip? Do you have a tight grip or a loose grip? The loose grip is the best because it prevents too much force bouncing back into your wrists. Your teacher should be able to draw a stick out of your hands without problems, that is the best grip. And how do you hit the drums? Let the stick do the work, do not force the stick into the drumheads. I'm sorry if I write stuff you already know.  ;D

So, if it is cramp/muscle pain you might be able to train and improve your muscle strength, if the bounced force hits you hard on the new stick you might have to sell or burn them.

Zildjian sells sticks with some sort of shock-absorbing system in the stick. Check this out on:
http://zildjian.com/Products/Drumsticks-and-Mallets/Anti-Vibe-Series/7A-Nylon-Anti-Vibe

QuoteAnti-Vibe is also great for use on rubber electronic drum pads and practice pads due to the vibration caused by these impact surfaces. the stick feels like you are hitting its sweet spot on every stroke.

I started playing drums with 5A sticks (aren't we all) and at up tempo beats my hands started to cramp after 5-10 minutes because 5A is too thin for my hand palms. Switched to 2B's and all is well. To conclude my answer: Balbex sells Hornbeam sticks, slightly lighter sticks (and cheaper sticks because the material grows in Europe). That may also solve part of your problem. Lighter stick - less force feedback.

Take care B.A., good luck.  :animal:
