If anyone's got the disc, you can use something like winamp to drag the disk into a playlist and then save the playlist as an HTML file. I doubt it will pick up directory structure though (presumably kits are saved in their own individual folders).

DrumIt 5 Hardware / Re: USB 1.1

You know what, I was thinking the same thing, especially seeing as USB 3.0 is not far off...

If my maths is not too far wrong, 12 megabits per second I think works out at about 1.5 megabytes per second - that's roughly 45 minutes to copy across 4Gb. It's not the end of the world, and I doubt you'll be swapping out your entire storage space that often...but it's not that fast either.

Maybe the licensing for USB 1.1 is a lot cheaper?

Hey D, nice find.
If you don't want to install quicktime, VLC will play the files if you download them:
(there's no clip3 or clip4, I checked :))

General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Re: Compatibility with BFD / SD etc
« on: July 23, 2009, 04:06:44 PM »
Hi Alex
I moved your post here so more people would see it, and it's not a stupid question at all.

The main thing will be the ability to set up custom "drum maps" that translate you hitting your snare for instace - via MIDI - into BFD (or whichever drum sampler / sequencer) to playback the right sample with the right paramaters.

Would be a good thing if 2box host a library of maps for common apps - or if people can share their maps with other users here, along with drum sounds etc.

One thing I would say - on the old DDrum 4 there were like 1000 levels of expression compared to MIDI's crappy 128 levels, so I very rarely used the DDrums as a controller for other sound sources. I think this is likely to be the same for the Drumit, and with so much storage for my own sounds, I can't see myself using it that much with BFD etc. Happy to be proved wrong though :)

Hi Cliff

Nice idea. Funnily enough I was going to set up a section for sharing sounds once there was more info on REX support - we're just waiting to hear back about the rx2 / Recycle 2 format - for me this is a killer function that I'm hoping to exploit a lot in my drum production - I've always been too lazy to really do much with porting sounds over to my DDrums, and I can tell I'm going to have a lot of fun slicing up loops to drop into the drumit...

edit: here's the board - share away (but please don't infringe other drummers' copyrighted hard work without permission) :)

They look f*cking fantastic.

Other e-drum systems / The Free VST plug-ins thread

Calling all music producing drummers!

I make use of a lot of free VSTs in my tunes - some of them crash Sonar, others work great. I'll post up my go-to plug-ins here, let us know if you have any beauties yourself.

In no particular order:

beta bugs audio VST plug-ins - I love "Crayon Filter". A lot. The whole plug-in bundle is good though.

Tweak Bench - tidy stuff up with Cairo, smash it up with Mashup, soothe it down with Padawan. Loads of great effects and synths here.

AudioNerdz - Delay Lama - Even if you never use it in a tune, you should grab this plug-in, load up some loops, and lose yourself in ambient noodly throat-music for a while.

Code Audio - for a very very dirty 303 line, try Squeekbox. Fat and ugly, just like yo' momma :D

Delemancha - ballistic plug -in (drum sampler) This one ain't free (it's $10) but all the proceeds go to Cancer Research UK. Quick and simple to use for building beats within your sequencer.

More to come as they pop into my head.

Update: there are some sounds online

And I am not that impressed ...

I suppose it could be an artifact of the compression they've used, or the over-quantized arrangements, but it doesn't sound all that dynamic to me.

...Unfair I suppose to post this, but listen to the 2box drumit demo...

That's something else.

It's uh...apples and oranges :)

I was only kidding - some of my best friends use Macs - and anyway, Vista doesn't count (it's in the same slop bucket as Windows ME :))
