Hi Hwasser

1) The standard kit comes with 3 pads (toms), 2 cymbals + hi-hat, snare pad, and kick pad - so yes, the choice is when you buy additional pads.

The brain has room for 1 more cymbal and 1 more tom (or whatever you want to assign to the inputs eg percussion sounds / fx).

These extra parts should be available once the next batch of kits go out (Oct / Nov) to buy seperately.

2) ...One of the earliest youtube clips (Namm 2008 I think) shows the drumit with a mixture of mesh, rubber, and regular drum heads.

At a guess (admit I haven't tried or seen it first-hand) those pads are going to end up sounding a bit like roto toms if you put a regular head on it, but the word from 2box is that that the pads should trigger perfectly whatever head you use.

While I'm a mesh head head fan (been playing real heads on my DDrum 4 for nearly 10 years and looking forward to the change), I've heard from Gary at Hand in Hand that the rubber pads will allow you to 'dig in' more like on a real skin, but without the loudness, so you might want to consider them.

Hope this helps.

Nice one Neil... Are you able to export and share a generic map (or plugin-specific maps) that we could add as a sticky? Happy to host the file if webspace is an issue.
cheers
Tom

We are pro drummers, aren't we?  :-\
Speak for yourself ...I've only ever been paid for gigs in beer :)

I've been drumming for 22 years and geeking out with electronic music for 15, had my DDrum 4 for nearly 10 years...which is basically why I'm a bit fanatical about the drumit 5 :) It's much more than just a hobby though.

For me, and I'm guessing quite a lot of prospective 2box owners, drumming / making music is a love, not a career - by god though, I'm not saying you can't do both - and I'm truly jealous of anyone who does :D

I suppose you could play with brushes (with the gain turned up like Puttenvr says), but I doubt the 2box brain will pick up on the 'granular' effect of the brush itself.

As far as I can tell / hear, the brushed sounds have been designed to respond to a stick roll technique, but still sound like the 'swish' of a brush.

I think you'll get the best response from some nice light sticks (like maple 7a's).

I've heard that wood-tipped sticks are not good for mesh-heads, so it's worth getting some nylon-tipped sticks.

Aye, that brushed kit sounds great - can't wait to get that kit through some crazy pumping compression for some jazzy trip-hop grooves :)

'lut patbat, bienvenue au forum :)

Whenever I've played with a band - live or just practising - I've always tried to have a setup with my headphones mixing in everything I want to hear (but with the drums loudest of course :D). Of course, the other people in the band need to hear you but I bet they mostly don't care too much about how it sounds as long as they can play to your beat.

...like I've said it in another post, having your own (good) mini mixer is really useful because you can get your main line-out from the drum brain, sent clean to the PA through your mixer, and have your own independent levels in your headphones, and usually also include some foldback in your ears on a line-level AUX input from the other instruments in the band - without it being sent back to the main output. You have lots of control over what you hear.

Wh nplaying live, you can control what you hear without interfering with the sound engineer's work, which is usually from an 'audience' position. You can hear your own subtlety, which effects the way you play, but you can / should trust the professional who can hear what the crowd is hearing - so let them do their thing with your main Out. You will be more comfortable with your sound and won't compete with the others in the band.

My personal feeling is - if you are only playing with monitor speakers controlled by someone else, and there's lots of other noise going on (bass player hitting the same frequencies as your kick for instance) it can get muddy and confusing, and it's nearly impossible to get someone else to change the feedback levels in the middle of a gig. Soundcheck is king!

I don't care if I don't look cool wearing big-ass headphones, I care that I'm playing the best I can.

The fact I'm small and no-one can see behind the drums me helps :)

Thanks chaps!

Sadly the new look was a bit broken on the inside but I'm trying to figure out how and why - in the meantime, we're kind of halfway in between  :)

edit: think I've fixed it - sorry if you saw any odd messages or weird looking pages in the last couple of hours :D

Hi and welcome :)
It's a good point (there are not many drummers around who prefer fewer drums to more!) but like you say it's not limited to just the 2box. On the 2box though you can assign a splash sound to the bell of your crash, or one of the tom rims...(and with 3 toms that's quite a few more crashes and chinas you could add in).

Hey, welcome on board and congrats on being the 100th member of the forum (and the 99th by the looks of it :)).

The 2box bods are still ironing out some issues with the USB protocol / software hence the delay on that side of things...as soon as it's ready you'll hear about it here first I hope :)

Hi Tooltip, glad to hear your bright orange baby is on its way!

There's a youtube thread on the forum, it would be great if new owners could post up a video when / if they feel ready to show the world :D
