Or 2-Box improves the Brains hardware interfacing. Any clue if the IO controller controlling the memory is flash as well?

Hi,

no, its not flash but hardware. At least my module uses an Atmel AT91SAM9261CJ which has the interface for SD cards included. So in that regard there won't be an update unless the really change hardware. However, i think the transfer rate is not crucial. The original card of my module is "only" class 6.

If the transfer rate is too low i would expect interrupted sounds but i never experienced/heard about that. In terms of latency there are obviously other parameters like any kind of access time or whatever. I don't know what it is and even if it doesn't help. Those parameters are usually not available for cards of consumer grade. There are also industrial grade cards with better datasheets but at a much higher price.

So the only thing we can do is try and hope that the vendor doesn't change anything once we found a "good" card. Unfortunately these consumer cards are changed from time to time without any change of the labelling.

Regards, Manfred

PS. The USB interface is 2.0 compatible but only low speed (1.5MBit/s) and full speed (12MBit/s).  So this won't be updated too.

DrumIt 5 Hardware / Re: HiHat Protection-Rim

Hi,

i also think that an edge protection helps. The really old cymbals had it and the new ones have it again. There is another thread about the edge protection. Not sure if you saw that:

Hi,

to finish that discussion i want to mention a post in the german Drummerforum. Hyperactive (german distributor) wrote that all new cymbals now have this edge protection. And it is also available seperately to rework the cymbals. I think that helps to prevent damages at the rubber.

Since the really old cymbals had this edge protection i still wonder why they removed it meanwhile. However, for those of you who understand german this is the link to the post:

Hello,

just want to let you know that (almost) all boards are sold. For those whose PM i answered today there is still a board left. But thats it as long as none of these guys changes his mind.

I will keep 2-3 boards just in case somebody needs a replacement. But up to now none of the boards got damaged on its own as far as i know. Just one board that was connected to 48V phantom power by accident.

In addition there are some more boards which work but the soldering of the sensor chip does not look confidable. Don't want to sell these boards because i'm not sure if they are reliable. Just imagine it stops working while somebody is playing live on stage.....

Nice vid
But 100 samples for 1 snare sound
How large should those files be ...?

18.3MB for the KA Snare for example. There are 90 layers for head and 10 for rim in this file.

1. I'm using my own hi-hat stand and I just can't get the hi-hat's to play as I've seen them on other people's videos online, the half open sound seems VERY hard to achieve and sometimes the samples get cut off very abruptly. Of course I've tried calibrating it at different heights etc. and that helps a bit. What would be the best way to rule out if my hi-hat is faulty or not? Would really appreciate some help here.

Hi,

is the hihat moving up and down with every hit? Sounds a bit like the tension of the spring in your hihat is a bit soft. When the hihat moves down with every hit it can happen that its muted because the hihat is "closed".

To check go to UNIT-HPED and play the hihat halfopen like you usually do. Observe if you see triggers on the upper right side of the display (zone 9). If so, the reason for abruptly cutted sounds is that the unit detects footsplashes or lets say hihat-closed-position while you are playing.

Hi,

did you use DSoundtool to create your sounds? As far as i know this is not able to create sound which can be tuned higher. If you use the 2Box-Editor to create sounds you can set the parameter "Max Tune" to the desired value.

In the kit, a rubber ring was added to cover the sharp edge of the aluminium disc.

Hi,

what kind of rubber ring is it? Is it similar to the one on the pictures in this post:

Hallo,

Lexar 16Gb Professional SDHC Class 10 (133x / 20Mb/sec) can be added to the list, OS load in 2 seconds dead.  9Gb used on the card.

Runs like an absolute dream.... drum samples even sound better too.. if that be believed!

Thanks, start post is updated. Do you have a picture of the card? Does it look the same as the 32GB card?

e-drum DIY / modifications / Re: DIY 2box Cymbals

By the way, in this thread i posted the schematic of the original hihat:

http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,897.0.html

So the cymbal itself has 4 wires connected to the board. 2 for piezo and 2 for the edge switch. On the circuit board there is the magnetic hall sensor for the level detection. The last post shows the correct schematic diagram.

Hi,

yes, the original 2Box hihat is basically a "normal" 2-zone cymbal with a piezo for bow and switch for edge. It just has the additional board for the level-detection integrated.

In DsoundTool , could it be possible to have the option , in multiple file case , that the number after the sample's name determines its position... i.e.  : sound1.wav is first  layer , even if it s not the loudest ...?

Hello,

this is possible, maybe not with file names but with a mapping file. Have a look here:

http://www.shortestpath.se/dsoundtool/manual/advanced.html

There you can set the velocity for each single file. Never tried by myself but saw it at the manual.

Hi,

looks like a OEM product from Buttkicker:

http://www.thebuttkicker.com/musicians/index.htm

Buttkickers are well known by home theater freaks. They use it to "shake" the whole sofa driven by the subwoofer output of the sound system.
