Hi all.

Here it is.

Max folder count is 96, max folder name length is 63, that includes the whole path, so
for example "Folder1/Folder2/Folder3/" can not be longer than 63 characters.
(You only see the first 17 on the LCD anyway.)
All folders are counted even if they don't have dsnd, dkit or wav files, however in that case they don't show up at the FILE parameter.
(The reason is that the file/folder search is recursive and therefore you can not ignore a folder before you have searched the whole sub-tree, while files can be ignored immediately based on their extension.)

Max file count is 4096, max file name length is 47.
Only files with extension dsnd, dkit or wav are counted.
The max name length is without the period and extension, so
for example "Fine Drum.dsnd" is counted as having length 9.

All folders or files starting with a period are ignored (that filters out Mac specific stuff starting with .).
I'll increase the max numbers for the next release.

Also all dsnd, dkit or wav files can be in any folder you like (except the DrumIt.dkit bank file),
the OS finds them anyway. So if it seems that you don't see files you have copied, maybe
you have more than 96 folders (or their length is more than 63) in which case some folders (and their files) don't show up.
Use chkdsk (or select all on the DrumIt drive and do Properties) to see the total amount of folders and files, it's the same numbers as appear on the UNIT-MEM page. However remember that this file count includes all files (pdf, bin or whatever).

Hi.
Do you have 1.20? It supports quite a lot of folders but only those containing dsnd files show up for the FILE / FOLD parameter. However all folders found (even those with other files) are part of the internal folder data structure. If the limit is reached (away some days now so I'll check the limit on monday) any more folders are ignored.
Do a chkdsk or something and you see your total amount of folders.
I'll be back with more info.

Hi all.

OS 1.20 has been out now a little while and I like to take the opportunity to ask your opinions. I've already read (mostly good) feedback which I do appreciate. So please keep on commenting (preferably on this thread) and I'll keep an eye on it.

Also, did you think the OS 1.20 Update pdf was helpful? Of course it's great if improvements / changes are obvious without any explanation, but I recommend reading it to get the most out of it.

Thanks,

Deve.

Hi.
Defragmenting has no effect at all.
Also the speed class doesn't give the whole picture. The access time is extremely important but unfortunately hardly specified by sd card manufacturers.

Hi.
To optimize the drum voice engine I rely on clusters being aligned to (modulo) their own size.
All SD cards I have (and they are many) comply to this.
So maybe your card has been formatted with a non-sd aware program like standard windows format.
On www.sdcard.org there is a format utility somewhre which should fix this.

Yep.
Your rec setup should work like a kind of long delay, so if DrumIt in local off is ok, it means all midi data is there, so then it's up to your rec setup to catch that data and replay it correctly.
I didn't hear of any midi bug on DrumIt, but...

Also, the midi buffer queue size is 256 messages. All data at DrumIt midi in goes thru that buffer even data that is not intended for DrumIt. So if your seq sends giga amount of data on its midi out port, the in buffer might overflow (didn't hear of such a problem either since the in buffer is emptied real quick).

Hi.
Try this, local off, 1 cable directly from midi out to midi in on DrumIt.
If this works, your intf / seq setup is probably dropping data somewhere.

Hi, glad to hear that.
The metr beats (incl the accent) use the variable layer replay. With some sounds which have few layers this might result in too much change in timbre. I'll plan a fixed layer beat for the next os revision.
Try another metr sound in the meanwhile or make your own. If it has only 1 layer, it'll definitively sound the same for each beat.

Hi.
The cup is detected as zone 1 when the velocity is past a certain threshold.
So, first turn GAIN so a hard hit on the bow gives full trig level on zone 4. Don't turn it higher than needed otherwise a bow hit will result in zone 1. Then click GAIN so a hard hit on the cup gives full trig level on zone 1. Again don't set it higher than needed.
Hope this helps.

Hi all.

There's a single kit file "Empty.dkit" here:

http://www.2box.se/download/dkit/Empty.dkit

It has all settings default with no sounds selected on any channel.
Rename it to any name you like.
(Remember there are only 17 characters visible on the LCD.)
Put DrumIt in USB mode.
Drag'n'drop it anywhere you like on the DrumIt drive.
Restart and you'll find it after program 100.
Dial in some drum sounds and you're ready to play.
You can save it but not rename it from within DrumIt (will be possible in future update).
Make upto 999 single kits based on Empty.dkit (just give them unique names before copying to DrumIt).

Nope, the OS person is not the web  person...
And mp3 is still on the list, fastforward too...
There's more control of cymbal triggering in 1.20, but it's still velocity based.
Please read the release notes carefully.

Hi.

To save or move kits, press SAVE.
When you save at the same location, press SAVE again.
Otherwise, choose a different location and press COPY which will overwrite the kit at the new location, or press MOVE which will move the kit to the new location and shift all other ones in between.
New OS 1.20 (soon on our web, really...) will also have SWAP which exchanges the kits at the original and new location.

Hi.

My 32 GB SDHC card (which works perfectly) results in this when I use windows "chkdsk <drive>:" (<drive> being e or d or something):

The type of the file system is FAT32.
Volume Serial Number is FC30-3DA9
Windows is verifying files and folders...
File and folder verification is complete.
Windows has checked the file system and found no problems.
   32,410,624 KB total disk space.
   32,410,592 KB are available.

32,768 bytes in each allocation unit.
1,012,832 total allocation units on disk.
1,012,831 allocation units available on disk.

1 allocation unit is used for the root folder (as it should).
Your Transcend might have different sizes, but it should look similar.
Reformatting a factory new card is not recommended, especially the clusters might not be allocated on erase block boundaries anymore. I thought the utility on the official SD card site would fix it, but I didn't test it extensively.

And yes, one of the reasons DrumIt doesn't support external cards is because of this kind of trouble.

That was the theory. In practice the transducer (piezo or other) has its own source resistence as well. So easiest is to use a small potentiometer like 47k, bottom end to ground, top end to pad, slider to DrumIt input.
