DrumIt 5 Hardware / Re: 2box module undusting?
February 28, 2019, 07:00:31 AM
Hi. It's the encoder being worn out. They should give a nice gray code but states will flip at random.
Opening up the unit and spray them inside might help. Orherwise best to replace.
The one used is the PEC12R 4220F S0024.
But the 4120F S0012 might be safer as it has only 12 pulses per rev so each gray "stretch" is double as long. But it takes also twice as much rotating to change a value.

The DDrum Legacy / Re: loading sounds into drum from mac
February 16, 2019, 05:06:04 PM
Hi Dave. Just use any mac midi sysex dump utility.
The ddrum4 .mid files are std sysex files.
Make sure there is space first in rhe dd4 mem.
How to do that google for the manaul.

Hi. Easiest to judge the sound quality on DI3 and DI5 by using a cd quality wav file (ripped) and play it as a song. It should sound the same on DI5 DI3 or any other good DAC connected to PC or Mac.
Listen to line out 1 2 to exclude any headphone coloring.

" Foot Splash WAVS is all you need. The 2Box does the foot chick internally using the closed HH sound."
Actually it's the foot splash with fast decay. Reasoning: when the 2 plates meet, there is no difference in chick or splash. Not known yet when or if it opens.
So same attack sound but when held closed it decays fast.
When opened again the decay is removed so it rings out with whatever energy is left.

Deutsch / Re: 2 Box Line in Signal zu leise
October 29, 2018, 03:23:54 PM
Hi Stefan.

Ps. Mein Deutsch ist ein bischen shaky... :-)

Hi Paul.
You are right. No date/time update because there is no real time clock.
At the time, I didn't think it important enough because it needs a little battery.
An extra cost and we don't need even more batteries around.
A fix for that could be to just bump the date/time a minute so it is at least different.
Will do so for my next module.

Hi. There are 4 resistors for each hp channel. 2 in parallel and then 2 pairs in series. Each res is 100 ohm so in total also 100 ohm. Replace these 4 with something like 10 ohm 1/4 W.
They are located just above the level pot. Each marked with 1000 (100 x 10^0).
You see by the traces how they are connected.
Good luck, Deve
Ps. warranty void of course...

Hi. RHH135 and HH65 have 5 positions.
But the various resister steps are not equal.
Also there is an extra resistor from the tip.
I never really understood why it is lke that.

Hi.
Well at least I can tell you that I'm -not- working on a hint or a kit :-)
So yeah...

Thanks. That was (and is) one of the major advantages of the sound engine I developed.  Good to know it is appreciated...!

" The frequencies are affected/changed depending on the ohms of headphones .."

Not exactly. It's not the resistive load of the phones which changes the freq response. It's the reactive part (the capacitive and/or inductive effect). An ideal headphone should have minimal reactive part, but is anything ideal?
The resistor is there to even out the power difference between lo an hi impedance phones. However it has this unwanted side effect.
Again, this is very dependent on the headphone in question. It's probably less noticable for hi imp phones. I tested most with AKG K240DF 600 Ohm phones when I tested. That sounds great.
Next time will be very low out impedance with user selectable nominal level to accomodate different phones.

Greetz, Deve.

Ps, if people want, I can point out the resistors to bypass for fixing this on DI5. However, for lo imp phones the out level will be quite hi even on low volume settings, so be aware...

Hi.
As I made the dsnd format RIFF compatible,  you can play dsnd files in any program which can handle wav files. Just (temporarily) change the file extension to .wav.
Note that only the hardest hit should have max amplitude.
Also, the pitch may be lower so as to allow pitching up in the DrumIt module.
Cheers,
Deve.

Hi. Should be enough with an original DrumIt.dkit file. Maybe some channels on some kits are silent because a sound is missing, but you will certainly get sound on your phones.
Best, Deve.
Ps. how to load files is in the manual or described in several threads.

"They were one of the first companies to the market with a module that can import multi-layered sounds"
Yes indeed, but who are 'they' today?

Hi. Probably the left encoder is a bit worn out and gives spurious changes.
While playing a song on the KIT-ACMP page,  and choosing a new song file, it plays immediately. (That's as it should.)
This won't happen on the KIT-PROG page, but there it might result in random kit changes.
However, maybe it's just because the encoder is on a detent,, it should always be inbetween 2 detents.
Best, Deve.
