General 2box Drumit 5 forum / Re: Mackie Thump 12s
August 27, 2014, 11:02:58 AM
the Mackie specs for the 12" Thump are:

Frequency Range (â€"10 dB): 57 Hz â€" 20 kHz
Frequency Response (â€"3 dB): 70 Hz â€" 18.5 kHz

in other words, their power in the low bass drops off precipitously... 70 Hz is only a bit deeper than the D string on a bass guitar...

apart from that, good sound costs. headphones have an excellent sound quality/cost ratio, much higher than a speaker/amp system...

i dunno why you'd want to use a Micro SD card instead of a full size card when full-sized SD cards of comparable performance are cheaper.

yep, it's very clear that Lustar has put a hell of a lot of work into developing SDSE, and his attention to detail really shows. he provides great support too.

although i'd much prefer an OS X version, it's obvious that there would need to be a lot more people clamouring for it to justify the amount of work that would be involved. i'm running it using Windows 7 in a virtual machine, which has the big advantage of still being able to work in OS X while SDSE is doing its thing (as SDSE takes complete control over Windows).

i'm rendering my third full preset now, and here a couple of my favourite SDSE features so far: the 2Box editor extension (since i have an extra cymbal and a DIY percussion trigger), and the option to have two different snare rim sounds automatically layered according to velocity (this means i can play a cross-stick and a rim shot, which i have been really missing).

it's also inspiring/forcing me to learn the ins and outs of BFD3, which i've never taken the time to do before...

well, i just exported my first full BFD3 preset using SDSE, and wow, totally worth the effort. wish i'd done it sooner!

the results are absolutely a cut above the stock 2Box sounds. fabulous!

hey there, here are some links to get you started.

some more ready-made sounds, firmware updates, and the 2 Box editor are available from the 2 Box website:

http://2box.se/World/index.php

since your module is second-hand, i would first check to see if it is running the latest firmware (v. 1.26).

the biggest SD card you can use in the module is 32 GB. the stock SD card is only 4 GB though, and once you increase the size you can no longer modify the files on the card using the USB connection (which is also very slow). for this reason many people are doing the SD card extender mod. this enables you to swap cards very quickly, and also to quickly remove the card to use in an SD reader with your computer. a step-by-step guide to doing the mod plus recommended SD cards can be found here:

http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=5d923f77147b9dfa3cbaa7b5300e92a6&board=16.0

the best method for creating new kits for the module using drum libraries like BFD3 and Superior Drummer is to use SDSE, which in combination with dsoundtool and Reaper largely automates the process. note that SDSE is Windows only. see the sticky threads here:

directly, no.

the easiest way is to use SDSE (in combination with dsoundtool and Reaper):

it looks more like a hardware problem...
#68
the 2Box module does not have USB-Audio capability. the USB port is only for accessing the files on the the internal 4GB SD card.

to play along to music from your laptop you need to connect an analog line output from your laptop to the Line In port of the 2Box module. using the headphone output of your laptop will work, too, but a line level output will work better if you have one...
#69
yep, program change definitely works. i discovered this by accident recently when i unknowingly switched my MIDI interface into thru mode, causing a loopback of program changes from the module. much confusion ensued!
#70
the outputs are unbalanced, but wired so that you can use standard balanced cables to a balanced input.

that's true. being successful is not necessarily the same thing as shipping squillions of units.

DrumIt 5 Hardware / Re: Kick Mounting Plate angle
May 23, 2014, 01:10:09 AM
i haven't tried adjusting mine yet, but looking at it again i can see that rotating the bar won't work very well if the grooves are more than a a little wonky.

so i think it is worth trying the other bar if the one you are using now is too warped.

ah, of course. should have looked closer! thanks for the tip!

i have a similar problem, except my kick drum leans back on an angle (i guess if you reversed the bar, yours would too). i would try swapping the long curved bar with the other one, it might be straighter.

it also helps to have a fast computer that has been setup for audio production if you want to achieve stable low latencies.

note that lower audio buffer sizes and higher sample rates result in lower latency, but higher CPU load.

also, processing your sound in software with latency-inducing effects will create extra latency too.
