So I am preparing my 2 box mk1 for sale and testing everything and the HH  calibrated on one kit and not for the others? I also had to unplug the HH cord  and plug in to get the calibration to work. Do I have to copy the calibration to each kit and is that possible?

You've outlined the two camps basically.

The truth is Roland needs more of 2box's sampling power and 2box needs more of Roland's processing and design prowess.

You also understand how much better 2box is at using what I like to term "brute-force" approach to drum modules, because content is king.

The good news is that next 2box module (whatever form that takes) really only needs to expand on the settings and processing to take the crown away from basically every drum module because the foundation is so strong. Yes, the underlying velocity layers (even in SD3) really is the the key to a great sounding module. It's Roland that developed to be what they are today because of the memory constraints.

So what do you think of the mimic? seems like it could be besting both Roland and 2box no?

The dsnd file is a wav container with metadata inside that tells the 2Box which sample goes with which velocity. You can load the file in an audio editor and pitch it down to the correct tuning, but you'll have to separate every individual hit. Alternatively, just get DKit Manager and it will do all of this for you...

So does the dound manager crush all the samples into one and make the wav file or the first hit?

So another module can't play the separate samples within the file file like the 2 box does correct? - Which one plays or does the wav compress it all together?

I have the TD-27 and drumit 5 version 1.  The 2 box I hardly adjust and I am really appreciating the multi sample files. Having multiple samples randomly working at various velocities seems to be excellent and pretty much equaling the roland capability but without the positional sensing.  Do we really need PS when we get a different velocity sample randomly changing anyway?   There are a lot of paramter controls of the Roland however I never know how involved a 2box sample is unless I load it into a program to see how complex the file is. I beleive rimshot 2 in the system when you play really lightly repsonds nicely with varying tones but not quite lound enough. Editing sampled and creating the .dsnd I know is possible but the time to do it is crazy for me. It seems like the 2 box should be a bigger product or a bigger contender to Roland than anything else but it's just not and I wonder why?  I am trying to have the Roland Cymbals and create files to put into the Roland. I can get a total of two one hit samples in the center snare and two in the rim and control the velocity. The center almost does not make sense as the Roland stock stuff is not bad and has so many dynamics. The rim I can layer on top of the Roland sound in two samples and get great stuff. The easier way is 2box for all drums and Roland for cymbals but that means a mixer.

I love my 2 box but would like to get some samples into a Roland unit to play with.
Is there a pitch change match or speed change in Audacity to make a wav sample. I have the Sdound manager but it does not have a save to Wav funtion.

I messed up my jack soldering a trigger on the standard tom pad. I am in the US and can't seem to find this jack. 2box had not responded to me. If anyone had any ideas it's much appreciated.

DrumIt 5 Hardware / Orignial Rack

Is there any value in an original 2box drum rack with the thinner vertical posts? Not sure if it would sell or were there problems with it, I noticed there is a new design and never really used mine.

I have the drumit 5 ver 1 and the ddrum 3. The speed is still unmatched of the ddrum 3 and other ddrum modules. Motorola made the chip and could no longer make them so every module since the 3 has barely kept up with features. The ddrum 3had the positional sensing and random and multii sample, still beyond modern modules BUT it was a lot of fiddling. Easier to just play the thing. IF you have the patience it is still the best. Of course cymbals aside as it can't do a decent 3 zone ride or HH so IMO the ddrum 3 with your ancient mac and SCSI set up and a Roland modue with digital cymbals is probably the only way you can really play in the pocket e drumming, even jazz. The 2 box HH is better on the new version but with all the boxes and stuff you can buy for other brand cyms it is not on the Roland level. The 2 box  drum sounds are far superior then Roland and compareable to the ddrum samples which you can put in it.  I think I would look at the Pearl mimic as the compromise for one box that does it all well. Similar two box sounding drums, very good but not great cymbals compared to Roland. Otherwise any ddrum module and a Roland TD-50 for just the ride and HH and crashes would be the best e-drum set up I can think of.  big $$$$$ tho Maybe a used TD20 I don't know but I think Roland wins for cyms. Ddrum, 2box, mimic for drum sounds. (VST aside)

Seems like the roland for cymbals and 2 box for drums is the way to go, the pearl mimic seems to be another possible optional as well. I wish I could play them all.

Ken just launched a new version of the fantastic tool ddrum4edit!!

The new version of ddrum4edit now supports direct wave file encoding and no longer requires the extra load/dump process for the module to do the encoding as was done previously.

The latest ddrum4edit 1.00.23 is now available, including new support for including custom samples.

More info available on the ddrum forum https://unofficially-ddrum.proboards.com/post/1943/thread.

Cheers and Enjoy says KEN!!! (And we say THANK YOU!!!)

Best Regards

Anders / www.zourman.com

This works great thanks!  My ddrum3 samples convert also

The hi-hat on my DrumIt 3 doesn't feel quite as smooth as on my old TD-12 and I've read similar comments from others as well, so I doubt that changing the conversion box makes a huge difference. Hi-hat triggering isn't one of 2Box's strong points.

Roland is quite widely considered to be the best in hi-hat triggering. There's also the option of EDrumIn + VST, but at that point you might as well get rid of the 2Box entirely and just use the VST.

Thanks this is helpful.  I assume the 5 ver II has the same hh engine. If you heard about the mods from zourman let me know.

I have the drummit 5 V 1 and even the jayman box and am not happy with the HH. Should I get the zourman box for the HH and ride or just get a new module? AND is that new module as good as the Roland HH. I could just get any module for cymbals and keep the V1 for drums and mix. Lets pretend price is no object what would you do  for the best HH and ride? (aside from TD50 running cymbals thats a bit too high)

thanks
