Title: Recorded one song with the 2box-kit with my band Frankly
Post by: Frankly on June 30, 2011, 01:17:00 PM
Finally we've managed to get some time to record a song with my 2box kit in our rehearsal room.
We used the Evil Drums with Superior Drummer and mixed/mastered the song the other night.

If you want to, listen to it here:

Be kind... ;)

Sounds good. Kind of like Iron Maiden. I don't like the cymbals thou.

Thx for listening - funny to hear you get some Iron Maiden feeling there. I've never heard/got that connection before.
I'm gonna see them live tomorrow so I'll listen and try to hear the connection as well! :)

I'm not that satisfied with the cymbals/hihat either. The cymbals sounds good while playing but in the mix/mastering I guess the compressor changes the sound to much.
Maybe I'll try to record the drums once more with my real hihat and cymbals. The problem is that it is hard to get good sound recording in our rehearsal room, but I'll give it a try.

Ok, now I've recorded the drums once more and this time used my real cymbals and hi-hat along with the 2box.
2box through midi with Evil Drums and 3 mics, one directed to the hi-hat (away from the kit) and the other two facing the cymbals (not as OH just facing each cymbal away from the kit).
I used three JTS CX-509 mics for this.

Here it is:

Your thoughts about this? Better/worse? Different? ;)
Thx!

It sounds better with real cymbals.

How was the Iron Maiden concert?

Thanks a lot for your feedback! Glad you liked the song!
Hehe - yeah, I went to the Iron Maiden concert on the Ullevi arena in Gothenburg Sweden. They were awesome as usual (I also went to the Big 4 two days later on the same arena and It was almost as good as Maiden).

I've done some more recordings using mics on my real hi-hat and cymbals and I must say that I'm getting pretty happy with how it sounds together with the 2box-kit (Evil drums). I made some adjustments of the placement of the mics to get cleaner sound with less room.
I'm also impressed of the JTS CX-509 mics that I think sounds great for that price (about $90 / mic in Sweden).

I'll post more songs here as we finish the rest of our songs.
Cheers! :)
