Title: My 1st 10 Kits in my 2Box D5 module.. Video Demo
Post by: Jman on June 21, 2011, 04:22:53 AM
I've been continuing to revamp my kits in the module. I now have moved the kits I have built/loaded into the module to the first 10 spots. This was recorded on a Kodak Zi8 vid camera, just a stereo line out feed from my mixer run flat, no extra processing, eq, etc. What you hear is basically what I hear when I sit down to play... I still have all the stock sounds in the 2Box module, but these kits have none of the stock module instruments in them ...

I'm normally not one to rave, but for me these are the best drum sounds I have ever experienced from a stand alone Edrum module (Strictly my own opinion based on the modules I have sat behind). I saw a recent Pearl promo boasting about the huge 128MB's or sound .... heck, my HH alone uses that ... My 32GB's of loaded memory actually allows for building a pretty intense drum kit!

Pretty large video as I demoed 10 kits ..... right click and save would probably be easiest especially if you don't have a blazing fast internet connection.... J

i did follow your progress and i know that you started with ndk, than came superior, but i was thinking about that 10 kits here...ok, i guess pork pie kit is sd2, sonor, gretsch kits are from ndk? and how would you compare sd2 vs ndk - sound and playability

These sounds can be made with any high end, close miked kit. No need to use Yamaha
Although they ARE beautiful drums

It would be nice if someone could make some recording of a Yamaha PHX Kit I think its the best sounding drums I ever heard.

Hey Slap .... nope, Evil Drums,

woops ..... now you have another expansion pack tempting you  ;D... after going through some of the presets in Evil Drums, I've found a lot of variation in the sounds, finding more I like...

Ok all but the last two NDK kits are from SD 2.0 ... (I have several add on expansion packs)  Kit 1 Vistalite is from Metal Foundry, 2 (GMS) just SD2.0, 3a and 3b DW Metal Foundry, 4 Sonor Metal Foundry, 5 Ludwig Silv sprkl Metal Foundry, 6 Blonde Gretsch Evil Drums, 7 Camco Oaklawn Classic and Vintage, 8 Porkpie Evil Drums. Then 9 and 10 from NDK ....

Some of the toms are toms that I built myself, since for instance the Vistalite kit only came with 3 tom sizes ... so the highest tom and the 3rd rack tom are my own retweaking retuning creations.

Hi
what's the problem with the jobeky kit?
I though that they were going to propose a special offer with the module?

HI

I guess i've read something from Deve Loper , telling that with a very simple electronic rig , you can reduce the gain from the pads ....i ll try to refind the link ....

That was the theory. In practice the transducer (piezo or other) has its own source resistence as well. So easiest is to use a small potentiometer like 47k, bottom end to ground, top end to pad, slider to DrumIt input.
Deve.

There are several really nice Sonor kits in Metl Fndry and producer presets for them. If I remember right I kept the instruments mostly as they were when recording. So you'll be able to do nice dsnds from that. Plus, Slap the Drummer and I can give you some pointers along the way if you run into questions... J

Sounds good. I probably like "Kit 2" the most (never heard of GMS before, to be honest :)), no idea how it would sound mixed in a song. The advantage of having e-drums is of course that you can change the kit once you get bored with it. :)

Yup, you can delete kits real easy, and put new ones in...
I hadn't heard of GMS before I got SD 2.0 either .... it is the base kit of SD 2.0 NY Avatar Studio 1. I used that GMS kit on a collaboration tune I did drums to recently .... not a final mix, but gives an idea:

I also did the same tune using mainly 2Box stock kit no. 1  ..... they will end up doing both mixes, but the take I did with the 2Box kit is not quite as heavy and fits the song a little better than that kit IMO .... I just wanted to try out the new kit ..... ;D My take with kit one 2Box:

Yeah, Drumit kit fits better with this song. GMS is a bit too heavy, deep, low.

Yeah, they usually turn out nice as is ... One thing that is pretty cool, if you go through the different preset choices for each of the kits there is a lot of variety there, all the way from dry to really big FX stuff ...
