Title: Natural Drum Kit Group buy
Post by: edcito on May 10, 2011, 04:00:21 AM
Hi 2boxers,

I used my initiative and contacted Patrick Robin, the maker of the sample library NDK to see whether he could offer a discount for people interested in the library.

Turns out he actually is, so it basically works like this:

- If at least 10 people is interested then we get NDK at $99 (That's a $30 discount)
- If there are more than 10 interested then he could do a further discount (depending on the number of people interested of course)

Timeframe would be initially till the end of this week. So, who is in? I'm in! so we need at least 9 more
Just express your interest here and we go from there.
Cheers,
Ed
P.S. Sorry for the people who already bought it but the discount is not retroactive...

What do you propose then?
It's not like there are thousands of 2boxers out there to wait 1 month....
If we cannot reach 10 then I don't know what else we can do....
win the lottery?

well, still don't have my 2box delivered, so not interested at the moment.

but....is this software compatible with the 2box?  are there patches so we can use the samples in the 2box?

is not "software", it's 20 GB of wav samples you can put it in the 2box. Check out jman posts.

They are software.  A sample file, whether it is .wav, or .dsnd, or any other file is still PC software, as it is providing data for another program to utilise.  You're confusing software with application software.  Software is a general term that can be used to describe any type of data.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think most 2Box users just want to play with the internal 2Box sounds
since ...
- those sounds suffice
- the card is limited to 4Gb (I can't even load all 2Box sounds I want)
- 3rd party sound libraries don't always sound that better. At least: I can't hear it
- only a few of us want to pay for it

The 2Box sounds are mostly very nice Putt, but I think making new, highly detailed samples is quite high on the average 2Boxer's list... :drum3:

The 2Box samples are fine for starting off with for sure.  I like many of the them, but not all, and they aren't all highly detailed as regards amount of layers/sample count.  New samples are the biggest interest for me now I have the card expansion slot mod.  With the larger capacity, I can create 24 bit samples with 80+ layers per zone and added EQ.  My feeling is with a little work they will eclipse the 2Box samples no problem.

I have been known to be wrong....  ;D
Title: Re: Natural Drum Kit Group buy
Post by: Jman on May 14, 2011, 03:37:13 PM
As far as I know, nobody has "bricked" their module yet by doing the extended SD card adapter. Definitely a "proceed at own risk" procedure. But with the card extender, and  larger cards accessible from outside the module adding new sounds and retaining all the original 2Box sounds is very easy. So without loosing any of the original 2Box sounds, exploring the "potential" of the Drumit Five module is the next step for me. And after a brief stint with creating new sounds I believe there is a lot of potential there..... that can, as Baby S says  "eclipse the 2Box samples". I guess since this thread was started in order to find out if there is enough interest to get a group together for a discount on the NDK pack, this tends to seem like a push to get others to "pay for it". But really I don't think we are trying to push this on 2Boxers just looking for others that may be interested in going "where no man has gone before" ;) ;D :P J

Oh yeah we know you guys just want to share the NDK love, thats cool.  I don't feel pushed or anything, just saying that I think I'm going to get my samples from elsewhere first and see what I can come up with - Superior Drummer 2 and BFD 2 samples are first on the list and I think thats where I'll be sinking my teeth into.  Rather than run through a PC, My goal is to run the samples through BFD/Superior with EQ and mic placement etc then have at least 80 layers per zone piped to each dsnd file.  My hope is that more detailed samples with more layers, decent EQ etc will yield good results, and of course I will bring you all those results when the samples are done.  Its good we all get into the whole homebrew aspect, and exploring different sounds and sharing is at the heart of that, so keep bringing the demo's people.  More than anything they will help to convince people to purchase.

Hear are some sampled things that I have been drooling over, check out the demo's:

Makes sense.
I must admit if I'd known how easy it is to get Superior Drummer sounds into the 2box
then I probably never would have looked at the stand alone sets like NDK -- and it really
is eeeeeeeazy.

If you've ever looked at the Reaper interface or Kontakt Player then don't be put off by
something like Superior Drummer.  I say this because to my very uneducated eye they
looked kind of similar (before) and I didn't want to go there - but actually SD is very,
very easy to make .Dsnd files with.

If I hadn't just found out how easy it is I wd want someone to say to me, "It really is
very simple, even you will be able to do it".   :D

And gotta say another big thank you to Louis here - the DSoundTool will even make a midi
file for you - incredible!  I have a feeling I would have stumbled over that one more than
anything else.  Thanks Louis.

Apologies if this is posted else where, but HOW easy?
Any chance of a step by step breakdown of what you did?  :)

Hi - I'll start a thread - if you're already familiar with SD that will be great as well.  Can't speak for Jman of course, but I feel like
I'm only just starting to brush the surface of it, so it'll be good to get input from more experienced users.  Amazing bit of software, I'm really
loving it!

As for my so called "guide" though, I warn you - it was just the first way of doing it that worked, and I really have no idea what I'm talking
about, so don't expect much...... it does work though, so that's a start.

Hi Logihack,

It is great that you donated, but I have not received any email. But that should not stop you, you can start  DSoundTool by clicking on the launch button on

Or is it something else you are waiting for?

Hey gang , I picked up the 2box kit 4 months ago. I had it shipped to me here in Seattle Wa. Had to find a distributor in Canada so he could ship me a power adapter. The kit really is great. Awesome feel. I added 2 yamaha dual zone cymbals and a splash. I also got the Superior Drummer 2.0 Took a little getting use to but I managed to figure out how to midi map the kit in "learn" mode then save. Every time I got closer to my goal. Now that I have record ability in Presonus Studio One ... I can move onto my next challenge. Can someone get me going in the right direction for getting set up to make these and other sounds into the playable dsnd files.
Do I need the Sound Forge and a dsntool ?

So I reckon the spirit and purpose of this topic have vanished....
The original purpose was to gather 10 people to get a discount on NDK....
