Title: Best accoustic heads for triggering response?
Post by: synnc on November 26, 2019, 05:04:45 PM
Hello,
Currently i have drumtec real feel heads on my accoutic drum, but i wanna make an "hybrid" setup, anyone knows the best drumheads with better triggering response?
Is anything like mesh heads?
Thanks

Are you using 2box pads or standard accoustic drums?

Maybe Aquarian/ alternate mode  in head system could be the best hybrid system ... but it s espensive as you have to buy a box to be able to plug them to the 2BOX module ....
They have built in FSR sensors , so you dont have to damp the head .

With acoustic heads + piezo triggers , you always have to damp the resonance quite a lot ,  and crank up the mask time to avoid double triggering and crosstalk ....
You get poor triggering and quite poor sounding toms ...

FSR dont have those issues , you can leave them undamped , and there s no crosstalk .

Are you wanting the drums to sound totally acoustic in themselves? i.e. Like they would if you were mic'ing them?

So IN-heads are the best choice ....

Yeah, I'd say so. I have tried so many of them and the usual issue especially when you start getting to larger drums is having the dial in usable settings. Which in the end tends to lead you to being limited to simple playing on larger drums or dampening them a lot if you want to be able to play falser stuff.

I tried the inhead and Voila, no double triggering, no crosstalk, no false triggering and a decent sounding acoustic drum head along the lines of a pinstripe or other double ply batter head.

The only down side (although not as far as I was concerned) is either having to he inbox attached to each drum, a midi diti or some other device which is needed to power the FSR sensor in each..

FSR is the future!
