Title: Question.... and thoughts on 2Box Kick Drum
Post by: NeilC on August 03, 2009, 02:33:05 PM
Hi guys, I have a question about the kick drum. If you look at the attached pic, the dark blue rectangle shape is like extra padding underneath the batter mesh, i assumed that this is where it's best played, so I set it up for there (which was naturally where my beaters were set up for the acoustic kit) and I thought OK. I played on the kit for a while and though hmmm the kick is a bit week compared to the rest of the kit, I then got my stick and hit various parts of the kick, and where the light blue circle is gave a masive increase in sample and sounded much better, so where is the correct place to play the kick?

Any ideas, or thoughts?

I always play the batter head in the center

Yeah so do I on my acoustic kit, but i just wonderd why this 'padding' is there? ie are we meant to hit it on the padding or centrally?

Hi NeilC

I would advise against hitting it there, as that is where the sensor resides. You could cause damage to it.

Thanks
Scott

Avoid hitting the padding? Phew good, cos I changed it to the centre....

Hi Neil

No avoid hitting the center of the pad. That is where the sensor is.

You can turn the output volume of the kick up in the Mix page, if you want abit more punch. Doing that will change the over all volume of all the kick sounds in the Unit.
You can also turn up individual sounds up, but pressing Kit, selecting the sound set that you want then press Page Down. From there press the pad that you want to change the volume on by pressing the pad on the left hand side of the Unit, then you can turn the volume up and down from that menu.

Hope this helps
Scott

I assume it says in the manual to avoid hitting the centre of the pad? Otherwise there could be a lot of people complaining about broken bass drums.

Will have to doublecheck, but don't think it does!

Gah, don't hit the sensor man! I think it says in the quick start guide somewhere, or maybe it was in the rack setup instructions "If using a pedal other than the one supplied, make sure it does not hit the sensor in the middle of the pad".

EDIT: I found it: http://www.triggerhead.com/page/files/products/2box/files/Manual_2Box%20Rackstand.pdf

Page 11, just above the picture of the top of the rack.

Yeah noticed that! infact the sensor "died" for a short while until I rebooted the brain... it's all fine now!

I can't understand why the sensor for the kick is central and all the others are on the rim?

I think the manual needs to be a lot clearer, yes it blatantly says don't kick in middle, but in all honesty how many people read instruction manuals?

Apart from that - still no issues...

Does anyone know when 'spare parts' will become available - I mean extra pads and cymbals etc....
