i like it. it looks much more stronger. separate snare stand is good too. i really can't get the snare in the right place with the existing stand system.

Main question: does the kick pad still have a LED light ?

Can current owners exchange their rack for a new designed one?

Yeah, the rack looks really good and wouldn´t mind it. Hopefully existing owners could pay a reasonable fee for a hardware update.

I would take that as a compliment Spoenk  :)  - that new bass drum setup might be directly because of your mod!

Although I'm bummed out a little that I won't get this new rack as an early adopter of the kit, its obvious that 2Box has been paying attention to its customers.  We have been saying for a while that the rack is okay for home use but not gig worthy, and the snare basket is not good enough either.  They are listening to us.

Slowly but surely the quality of the hardware is starting to catch up to the module's capabilities, and with the new hardware it looks far more like a contender to Roland and Yamaha's standards in that area.

There are still thinds to improve in the hardware I feel however.

The rim system in the pads.  Sure it works, but its just a plastic o-ring with a thin bit of rubber attached and feels flimsy and plasticky when you hit it.  Roland/Yamaha pads both have a stronger and sturdier solution.  The 2Box pads are great, but imagine how good they would be with a proper rim system that you can really dig into...

Secondly the cymbal arms - they should really have boom arms on them so we can change the angle of the cymbal.  Having a single piece of metal makes it more difficult to adjust and position your cymbals.  This is a cheap addition.

Add a cable loom to the rack so that all cabling can be routed tidily to the module - again a cheap addition but one that adds a touch of class.

Give people the option of an XL pack when they buy the 2Box, which would include an extra 10" or 12" tom pad, and one extra cymbal over the normal pack.

i would have been happy to have paid a bit more to have better hardware.

i do hope they provide a reasonable upgrade path for early adopters.

Hi,

that sounds really great!! Would be nice if the early adopters could upgrade the rack for a special price. The rack at the picture looks much sturdier than my one. Especially if you add more cymbals to the current rack it gets shaky.

Doesn't it have the "Optional strut bar" they're talking about at NAMM 2010?

http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,257.0.html,

It was a good idea...mainly if it could hold the kick from its upper part.

As you can see on the pictures: no
But one can always add an extra bar when desired

the rim system really could use improvements.

firstly, the triggering is very uneven around the rim.

secondly, the rim system is manufactured from very lightweight plastic and rubber. i've just dismantled my snare drum to find that the rubber has split and the hard clear plastic inner ring that transmits the hits to the sensor has cracked. i'm not a heavy hitter, and i use quite light sticks (11As). i do love my rimshots though!

Title: Re: New rack stand
Post by: RossC on August 11, 2010, 06:20:30 AM
My kick vibrates a fair bit and the sound of this is a bit annoying especially when I'm playing many hits on the kick. It'll be heard over the top of my headphones.

LoL, I realised that this moves the kit a bit forward when playing a lot, haha, after recording 3 songs to a thrashmetal band the drumkit had moved off the carpet ^^

i guess that's why they have done away with the metal front and foam padding and relocated the trigger on the new version of the hardware.

you can mod your own as in this thread:

I tried that but gave up.  The bolts holding the back plate on were way too tight and I ended up damaging one of the bolts.

I don't doing that because you don't have that 2box logo (light) anymore.
And I don't have trouble with double triggering after the new 1.10 update.

update new info from Bengt, the price of the new mk2 rackstand will be 250 euro. :-[

Actually, I can see why!
It is awesome, and incredibly sturdy.
I'm still setting it up so I will have no problems with transition between the 2Box and my DW-kit in the other end of my studio.

Glad I have the new stand, though...

That sounds expensive. Is this the price for the complete rack (with cymbal arms, clamps, tom holders) or is it the price for an upgrade of the old rack? I mean it should be enough to replace the 4 vertical bars and the clamps if you already have the old rack. One user did that with dixon tubes. I can't find the thread but i have 2 pictures on my harddisc. I guess this would "only" cost about 150 Euro.

If 250 Euro is the price for an upgrade of the old rack it is expensive. If it is the price for a complete rack with tom and cymbal holders it is ok. Scottie said that early adopters will not be forgotten when the new rack is available. So lets wait and see.

For the whole rack its a good price. For just upgrading some parts, it should be significantly less. The new rack seems to be more stable and it looks nicer. A real improvement.

I can understand WHY there must be a new rack, but I prefer the old one in terms of design. It's just different from all bold racks we already have. And I like that. Pitty some parts (snare holder) weren't strong enough and some other parts seem to be weak, but are strong enough.

If a ball is not round, it's not a ball  :-\

Why? Because they are very good technicians, but very bad managers who don't have heard about the word "aftersales". Things are going to grown above your heads, 2box. Time to invest in good management. Otherwise you're going down in your own succes.

Hi mandubien

No 2box user's are being forgotten. This thread did slip my mind and i apologise for that, but i have been very very busy just lately, hence why i haven't posted as much on the forums as i would have liked to. I try and keep an eye on the forum as much as possible. Saying that there are a lot of very knowledgeable members on here, that are doing a great job helping other members out.

In the UK we have have new rack stands on order, and on Tuesday i will post a price for the upgrade as i believe that we have just got out final pricing through.
I will also get an ETA.

Hope this info helps to put your mind at ease a little  ;)
Thanks

Hey Scottie ! Glad to have some news from you  :)

It's great to hear we gonna have an update :-)))
Unfortunetly, I bought my kit in France, so I pretty sure it's gonna be a pain to get the new rack.
Do you think it will be possible for french users to upgrade from you ? I'd rather pay a bit more and be sure to get my new rack instead of waiting for ever and ever...

Hi everyone

Ok, I finally have a price for you with regards to the new Rack stand upgrade for MKI owners.
This price includes the rack stand (no brackets) and the separate snare basket.

Please also keep in mind that this price is only valid in the UK, and it may vary from country to country depending on the distributor, as we all have different factors to take in to consideration when we set a price.

So the price in the UK for the upgrade is..... £199 inc Vat.

If you are interested in this upgrade please let me know. I have had a lot of intrest via PM for this item, and we only have a limited quantity coming in.

Thank you all for your patience with this info.

So the price in the UK for the upgrade is..... £199 inc Vat.

is not simply the difference between the new sales price of the kits?
What's in it for MKI owners?

Hi Remi

MKI owners are getting the new rack stand at a much better price. So you wouldn't ended up paying more money for your kit, as opposed to someone buying the MKII now. You will also have two rack stands instead of one.

Thanks
Scott

I have bad news for french customers : Algam won't do anything to upgrade the rack for now. And I'm more or less sure that they won't do anything forever.
I'm afraid the best chance we have to upgrade our rack is to order it somewhere else in Europe...

Hi all,
Thomann currently has a B-stock kit which is the first verion. I'm thinking about getting it. I won't be using the kick or the hihat stand, since I'm happy with my current gear (Yamaha pedals, Roland KD-8's and heavy duty Pearl hihat stand) probably not even the snare stand. In that "what's new" pdf it said "Pads now have 5 bolts mounting system as opposed to previous 3 bolts" Where are those bolts located and does it make a difference? Has there been any upgrading of the rims? Someone said they were of plastic and not durable.

Cheers
/Krillo

Hello Krillo,

The material of the rims are still polycarbonate, and the rims are now holding with 5 o-rings you can see them at the side of the meshhead, (those litte black 0-rings that holds the rim).the mk1 had only 3 o-rings, and the new mk2 version has 5, take a look at your snaredrum.  :patbat2box:

greetings,
Roel.
