Title: DrumIt 3 MKII
Post by: nohumanape on January 26, 2019, 06:51:28 AM
Man, 2Box just announced their DrumIt3 MKII at NAMM 2019. This is kind of a blow for me, seeing as I just purchased the previous DrumIt3.

The MKII has 32GB of factory built in storage and has 6 direct lines out (instead of 4). Not a huge deal, but still would be nice to have more lines out. (In terms of memory, the MOD will suffice).

Do you guys have any thoughts or information that you've learned about 2Box at NAMM?

It's a 2nd generation of the drumit5. No doubt it will list a lot more than a drumit3 so I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

Oops, yeah I noticed that after I watched the NAMM floor demonstration again. That seems like an interesting move to me. Because it really looks like more of a refined DrumIt3. Heh.

Did you notice any other differences besides the outputs and storage increases?

wel it's also got the physical channel buttons like the original drumit5. Not sure of any other updates though.

I wonder if it does positional sensing?   that would be loverly.

And idea when they expect it to hit the market?

It won't have positional sensing, not 100% sure but I believe Roland have some patent on that (even though Ddrum did it back in 1993!)

That sucks.  (I currently use a Ddrum3.)

But Roland does it via 2 sensors, so maybe that's what they patented? (Seem like an odd thing to be able to patent)   Ddrum did it with ONE sensor, by analyzing the waveform shape. Surely 2Box could do ThAT?

Are you telling me that no other company has positional sensing?   :(

BTW -  Can I assume the OP made a huge blunder, and was referring to the drumit FIVE mkII?

There isn't nay mention of a Drumit3 MKII anywhere else on the internet.

NO, Roland posititional sensing works with one sensor too. Ddrum came out with it many years ago and apparently Roland had no claim against it ... (Ddrum might have actually come out first, can't remember) But unfortunately 2Box is a dif. company than Ddrum so can't use their claims AFAIK. Roland positional sensing patent runs out before too long AFAIR ..... so don't be surprised to see more positional sensing happening in the not so distant future.

You. I already get 5 and 3 mixed up, seeing as the 3 came later. I saw this announcement, and the module looks a lot like the DrumIt 3, so it just stuck in my head as being part of the DrumIt 3 line. Oops.
