Title: Module would not power up, new adapter, fries with that
Post by: robcod on September 30, 2018, 02:45:11 PM
So my module was left on over night on a GFI, not the first time, but in the morning the module was not powered on. I could not get it to fire up and after checking the power adapter with my multi-meter I noted no current. I ordered a new after market adapter I found suggested and plugged it in, the module flashed on and went crazy before shutting down shutting down after 10 or so seconds and had a terrible smell of burnt electric. I opened the module and found a crispy piece. I plan on sending a photo to USA techs to see if it is repairable. I have a video of what it does now with a twist of the adapter (no the jack is not loose)

since i cant seem to attach a photo here is the crispy bit

Any Ideas?

You did get an AC/AC replacement power supply right? A lot of people don't realise the drumit5 works with AC not DC (like 99% of stuff) power. I went through quite a few over the years, had to special order a replcement 2box adapter and then one similar from an electrical suppliers. I think it was a 15v AC 2 amp supply was the last one I got, made by Alto.
The drumit3 however works on DC, which means if the supply ever should go down, it would be easier to replace.

Yup. I ordered jameco adu180100 18vac 1000mA which has been determined to be the correct one. I am going to get  digital multi=meter because I am sick of the needle and I will determine that the power cable is good. Although it was reading fine. Not sure why that particular capacitor went crispy or at what point it started.
