Title: Ddrum is back? DD1 edrum kit...
Post by: Hellfire on April 25, 2010, 01:17:12 PM
It looks as if Ddrum is getting back into the electronic drums biz. They are starting small with their new DD1 entry level edrum kit. Hopefully, this is just a stepping stone to a larger offering by Ddrum.

Ddrum DD1 Electronic Drum Kit, NEW!

Where the new Simmons has nothing to do with the original brand
the new ddrum has nothing to do with the old (Clavia) ddrum
In fact it's a shame that they use legendary brand names for distributing such a trash

Yeah its just a rebranded Mendeli e-kit, 2Box is the new Ddrum in reality.

I agree with Putt, it doesn't look very good at all...similar to what pearl did with their e-pro live - another rebranded e-kit with a different name and paint job.

Lol, look at the module, it is 100% the same thing as the Medeli ^^

Yeah, it's an insult to the name Ddrum really.

I agree that the e-Pro Live module is rebranded and so are the cymbals (actually made by Pearl under license by SmarTrigger) but the drum triggers themselves (and rack) are 100% Pearl. I don't believe that this kit by Ddrum is in the same class as the e-Pro Live (Granted, that is my opinion). Keep in mind also that Pearl will be putting different sounds in the module than Alesis and the firmware will be different as well. It's like having two PC's, identical in hardware but one is running Windows and the other is running Linux.

I think the point here is really, what sane drummer would want to buy this Mendeli kit at all after listening to this demo, which is not only awful sounding, it's the model ABOVE the DD505 that they are using for the DDrum (they are using the DD505 which curiously doesn't have a demo)?  Perhaps this would make a good kit for a small child if it is cheap, but aside from that I can't see much good about it...just listen.

Terrible isn't it.

As for the e-pro, Pearl don't make e-drums.  They make some nice hardware and some nice accoustic kits, and the e-pro is just their attempt at grabbing market share where they have no expertise, and whilst they still have a chance.  I mean, the 'redbox' alesis module only has 128mb, which is enough for maybe one decent kit.  No matter how they change the firmware or pre-loaded sounds, its still not enough memory for a sample based kit.  Maybe 15 years ago that would be a lot, but now even the 2Box's 4Gb is not enough for some...

Ddrum also has a hybrid kit which is a much better proposition - but no module. See the latest digitalDrummermag.com (http://digitaldrummermag.com) for more details.
