Title: 2box Drumit5 MKII Kit Issues - Triggering
Post by: AntHawker on April 03, 2016, 07:17:18 PM
Hey Folks,

I am new to the Forum and to 2box so a big hello!

I received delivery of my MkII Kit the other day and have set it up this evening. Unfortunately I have come across a couple of issues. These issues have been referenced occasionally in the past, several years ago actually, but with no solutions.

Firstly, and most importantly, I have a triggering issue. The snare mesh head is not triggering, the rim shot works fine and when I press the snare button on the module it also plays the sample. When I hit the head it shows no response on the module, no sound and no light. I have switched the snare for the tom and it produces the same problem, which to me negates the possibility of it being a head issue. Also, I have my centre tom set as Tom2, when I rim shot the tom it occasionally triggers Cymbal2 which is the cymbal behind, this happens roughly 50% of the time and at any velocity (not necessarily a heavy hit). It seems obvious it is a module issue. I have not reset the module but I have made sure it has the up to date firmware. I am assuming this will be an RMA job but thought it best to see if any solutions were found before I started the process.

Secondly, I did not receive the 4 small screws to attach the bass head to the mounting bracket, has anyone else had this happen to them? Its not a major drama to be honest as I can get some replacements at the hardware store tomorrow and cut them to size. If anyone actually knows the dimensions of these screws that would be awesome! (I understand this would void the warranty :) )

Finally just a little initial observation, the hi hat stand... It seems pretty flimsy, the movement from the pedal and the rod is terrible. I am using my Iron Cobra so this is not a problem but again was just wondering if this is a generic thing or specific to the kit I have received.

Anyway, it feels a shame to open my posts with a slightly negative one but never mind, onwards and upwards!

Thanks,

Ant.

Welcome to the forum.
It's not very clear on what you did switching the snare/tom. I would suggest with your kit all plugged in like normal ..... switch just the cables at the back of the module of the tom that is working and the snare that is not. If the tom does not work on the snare input then it is a problem with the module snare input or module input settings. If the tom works that way, but the same problem follows the snare when plugged into the tom input, then the problem is with the snare pad or the snare cable. Next, change the cable out for the snare completely with a TRS cable you know is working. If it is not the cable and you determine the problem is indeed that the snare pad's head zone is not working, then, since it is a new kit replace the snare under warranty. I assume you bought a new kit? Also just a FYI new 2Box kits in the US normally come with the parameters preset to Rubber Head type settings which are very different from mesh head settings ..... just mentioning that since I don't know where you are or the history of that kit.

Your problem with the cymbal triggering from the Tom rim is a crosstalk problem. Refer to the manual for specifics on Gain, Threshold and Crosstalk parameter settings is my suggestion ......

If you need to replace the snare under warranty I would suggest requesting the screws you need at the same time. There is a spare parts manual link in this thread you can download if you want the part nos.: http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,3238.msg24243.html#msg24243

Jman, my guess is he's in Britain, hence the correct use of grammar and spelling :-)

Fitting your own screws? No it wouldn't.

I'm hoping that your issue is just the pad->module cable. If not, it's most likely that a wire has come off the snare piezo sensor or the jack. While tackling this repair yourself is quite simple (though it would void the warranty of the pad) it would probably be better just to RMA the pad if possible.

Hello everyone, i'm new to the forum too :)
I have received my 2ox a week ago and i am missing the 4 screws just as AntHawker
This is no big deal anyway i got them from my hardware store. but still...

But what's really bad is that the rim of my snare pad doesn't trigger at all (the mesh head does)
AND the hi-hat won't calibrate and all i get is  an open sound.
I've read all i could find in the forum and tried everything, but there is no way to get them fixed.

I'm a bit disappointed i guess quality control is not working properly.
I guess my only option here is to rma the parts what do you think?
or should itry sometihing else?
Sorry for negative post but receiving the drum and not been able to use it properly is very frustrating.. :(
cheers
Sigfrido

Hello again,

Thanks Jman and Coda! OK, having returned from a trip and reading your prompt replies, I again set to work troubleshooting the issues I have. I had convinced myself I had covered each scenario possible, but upon the mention of the cables I had realised I had not switched these whilst testing (I assumed they would be fine, Duh). So as you may have guessed the issue is with the cable, easy fix perfect.

This leads me on to a question. As the cables are not actually ideal lengths to dress neatly, can you replace them with some better quality 1/4 inch TRS Cables, and if so is there a certain type that produce the best signal transfer? (Not really an expert here  :) )

So, this leaves the 'Cross talk problem'. I have tightened all the connections on the rack and pads and followed the instructions within the manual to calibrate the sensitivity etc. This initially solved the issue (or so I thought) until some hits later it triggered the same cymbal, albeit less frequently. I am assuming this is a case of playing with the perimeters until it doesn't happen again.

Ha, great guess! I am indeed of British origin, although my recent years spent living within the motherland are few!

OK, this is interesting, I though I read somewhere that it did, although when I think about it, I doubt very much if they could prove otherwise either way.

Hey Sigfrido, I understand your frustration, but keep your chin up man, it's a great piece of kit you have there, even with the drama :) . I have also had trouble calibrating the hi hat whilst using the stock hi hat stand. I had a spare Iron Cobra which I am using instead, this seemed to have helped although I wouldn't say it still sounds absolutely correct. I suppose this is just another tweaking exercise.

Anyway, I am sure you will be hearing a lot from me as I work through the refinement and use of the kit!

No not really, they are not used to carry audio level signals, but impulses from piezo-electric generators which are relatively high voltage (relative to standard audio that is). Any TRS cables will do. I made my own quite cheaply.

Me too. I now have a knack for spotting fellow countrymen :-)

Even if they claimed it did, under UK consumer law (not that we're necessarily under UK jurisdiction anyhow) they'd have to prove that different screws damaged the unit if the warranty was contested. Although what I know of 2box, that's not gonna happen, they seem to be decent people.

Just a quick update:
It took a while, but i'm happy to report that 2box agreed that my hihat and snare were faulty, so they sent my replacements and now my kit is working great! They also sent me the missing screws and a bracket that i accidentally damaged when i had to use a non standard wing screw to replace the one that was stripped in the original package. I have to thank Production Room from Leeds (the vendor) for their support and assistance.
happy drumming everyone :)
