Title: Importance of piezo size
Post by: nicog on January 05, 2016, 01:36:43 PM
Hi guys, I was thinking on replacing the piezo on my DYI snare, and wanted to have a clear understanding on how affects the size of the piezo. My first thought is the bigger the piezo bigger is the dynamic range?

The size of the piezo determines its frequency response. It is after all a contact microphone but the module is only using it as a simple trigger.

Some people use large (25-30mm) piezos and some use small (15-20mm). Personally I have 15mm on my cymbals and 30mm on my snare/toms, but they will both work in both positions, and TBH I don't think it affects much. When I rebuild my snare trigger, I will try a 15mm to see how it affects the snare response but I don't think it will change.

That said, I'm open to other's opinions or experiences.

hi,

can someone tell me what piezo size is used in the 2box snare of tom pads ? They seem small, like 15 or 20mm ?

thx !
