Title: The 'eNerd' library for the 2Box DrumIt Five module
Post by: espen on August 21, 2015, 04:07:44 PM
Found this from Youtube. Looks like we will have a new drums set with several ambience versions downloadable soon!

Interesting video for the recording sessions and some more good stuff here:

Quite impressive. I wish more people would sample all kinds of drums and cymbals and put them online. I'd love to make dsdns of my Ludwigs and Zildjians, but I have no clue about studio work.

The guy has a funny 2box snare, wonder what it is..

I believe his snare is a stock 2Box snare dropped into another custom shell.

That dude has a great feel and top quality control!!!
The drum sounds, altho very processed, sound fantastic for that style of music.

However it confirms to me how much I dont like Meinl cymbals!
TBH, I dont like many "modern" cymbals at all. Mostly to "trashy" for my liking but thats just me!!

I believe the downloadable kits will include Turkish cymbals, if I paid attention to the video.

Yup, Turkish cymbals were mentioned. He mentioned that he used some different cymbals and mixing when he was in the studio doing a song, but I think for the 2Box sampled kits the Turkish cymbals are included ....

Nice statement made in the video
Hope to see the samples soon

Endre Husar is a real pro. He have built a couple of plug-ins for ableton Live which took the e-drumming one step forward. He has on his old projects used MegaDRUM as the brain, triggering VST's among loads of other gears. If Endre is going for creating 2Box samples we can expect some real nice samples...the guy is a pro!

There are some real nice packages downloadable on the 2Box site...and I just heard about two unreleased packages but the main problem was that these samples couldn't  be protected, so if the author want to earn some money on his efforts creating the samples, they will be copied everywhere for free... (Especially if it is created in professional studio with a snare from 1922 and uses 22 mic's , with 16 layers times 5 in stereo etc...) This does not come for free...

eNerd took great care while making those kits. Is it just me or the special Peavey drums makes it even more interesting? :)

Yeah, I remember those drums from way back. A shame they went out of production, they were definitely great drums. I think perhaps they were too radical/innovative when they came out. Didn't look what a drum kit "should look like".

Maybe now would be a good time for Peavey to reintroduce them, as far as I know they are only "making" (china rebrands) cheapo drum kits these days.

That is one of the cool things about sampled drums ...... might be impossible to find/play that acoustic kit, but since it was sampled...... it will be alive an well straight from the 2Box module! 8) I've got drums I play through the 2Box I could never afford to own.

That's very true Jman! I played on a pair of DW's last week...worth about $20K just for the shells...(custom ordered)...just think of having them sampled and then entered in to 2Box...

This is a cliff hanger...do you think you can find any samples in the 2Box factory settings produced from an expensive and rare kit?

Well, the original 2Box drums in the stock module are here: http://bigjambo.com/www.bigjambo.com/Studio.html
and you have the additional kits/sounds on the 2Box website for free download
But since we have an open sound source module ....... with all the VSTi's out there I know I have 10's of thousands of dollars worth of acoustic kits already built on my PC and cards for the 2Box module. Including drums of Peart, Nick Mason, Terry Bozzio, Billy Cobham, Nigel Olsson, Chad Smith ... just to name a few. At least a half dozen different Acrylic kits (Vistalite and others). Drum brands ..... DW, Pearl, Tama, Camco, Ludwig, Fibes, OC drums, Tamburo, etc. etc. We have a huge amount of drum choices out there already, and the list grows. J

Jman - not a bad guess at all. You say something here in your text...Big Jambo, the truth is that the X Shell drums found in 2Box is the actual DW VLX Kit worth $20 000...So you are right there are some real expensive kits sampled in 2Box.  ;D

The Mac is never the problem :P

User error. If you double-click the zip file, by default it will unzip the contents of the zip in the same location. It sounds like you just dragged only the dkit file, and not the sounds folder(s) onto the SD Card.

The download page is now live: http://endre-enerd.com/tech-info/sounds (http://endre-enerd.com/tech-info/sounds)

There were some questions about 2Box's plans to develop more sounds in the future, I'm posting my reply here as well, as some of you might find it useful:
Quote
The work process of making the eNerd kits was no different to that of any other kit. 2Box has always outsourced the sound creation and the stock kits were recorded in various studios.
Although my signature kits were published on my website, we worked closely together with 2Box to make sure everything would go fine. The initial plan was that we'd only do the recording here and they'd finish the instruments in Sweden, but during the mixing I realized that if I wanted to make the dsnds sound and behave exactly as I planned, then I had to do the whole editing and dsnd creation at my studio.
2Box.se is undergoing a major redesign, so don't expect too much new content to get posted on the old site, but 2Box already announced the eNerd kits and posted two chapters of the supplementary video on their facebook page.

Unfortunately none of the currently available editing tools was designed with multitrack recordings in mind. Some new additions to SDSE could fit the bill, but we'll need to talk about those with Denis in the near future. He helped me a lot so far and some of the latest SDSE features were added in response to my requests. The expected release date of the cymbal samples (and the other kits I'm planning to release) will largely depend on the outcome of those discussions.

Correct. I've been an endorser of Turkish Cymbals for a long time, the Meinl set was used for Dani's tune only, because he is a Meinl artist.

The former. We have a workable plan, but the execution will take some time. Once done, the production of new kits will be 4-5 times faster.

Thank you Endre.

I noticed a tiny rattle in the kick sound, was that it? To me it was just fine, added a bit of authenticity to the sound.

Is the update available separately, or is it bundled with the rest?

Yes. At first I thought it was ok, too, but as I played more, I realized that at quieter passages it can get annoying. I know there are a few dirtier layers in some stock sounds as well, but these noises made the kick less universal. Plus (my bad), I found two erroneous layers.

No separate updates. I wanted to keep the download page as simple as possible with a single link for each kit. That will make life easier for new users.
