Title: Has anybody ever experienced that 2Box module locks/hangs?
Post by: ANGR77 on March 10, 2015, 10:34:59 PM
I was playing hard today for 3-4 hours and my system actually locked/hanged 2 times. (Power cycle was the only solution to get it working again)...this made me real worried...I am running on the 1.26 firmware on a modified device with 32GB SAd card...could it be something wrong with the card even if it does not show any symptoms like pops, distortion or even long boot times...it has been working like charm...

Maybe try a happy card instead of a sad card! Try using your original card and see if you still get problems. It could be the card extender.

Actually the detailed instructions in the DIY section about opening up the module and doing the 32GB card extender mod are connected with 2Box Brain Freeze. The original instructions for replacing the SD card in the 2box module was introduced after a batch of modules started freezing and it was subsequently linked with a batch of modules with "bad" cards. So you could either send your module in to have the card changed or have a card sent from 2Box and change it yourself if preferred. It was also discovered at that time that the place building the modules for 2Box put out some modules with a slightly different processor chip. So Boot version 1.32 was also introduced. Here is that thread: http://www.2box-forum.com/index.php/topic,457.30.html
So, most likely you are looking at a problem with the card and or extension cable.

Jman, that's a long-winded way of saying "what Allan said"!

Sorry, it's just not that often that people agree with me on drum forums. But usually, the topic is "why do drum companies ignore us - we're their most important resource?".
I won't open that can of worms here.....

Yeah, I've read enough of those full page posts by the latest Internet forum legends (in their own minds). Thankfully we haven't been graced with much of it here so far. ;)

Jman, thanks. Good to hear that one of the symptoms of having a wrong sd card could generate freeze problems. I am going to check this seriously.

hy,
the same problem I had. It was the SD card.
A backup card is required.

Could have been caused by heat. If there's not enough air circulating around the unit, it can heat up quite dramatically and cause a lock-up (source: personal experience). A definite possibility if you were playing for 3-4 hours straight.

Fortunately from what I've seen posted on the forums ....  the posts that looked like it could require a module repair have turned out to be a card problem or a faulty or incompatible AC adapter. Both are easy and inexpensive fixes.

Thanks JMan. I will go back to the original sd card...(very easy because of my SD card mod)...2 ms later the old SD card are back...and I only have to play...and see if the problems persist. :-)
