Title: DrumIt Manager: kit editor, manage your .dkit and .dsnd files
Post by: Lustar on October 17, 2014, 05:47:03 PM
DrumIt Manager: DKit Manager, DSound Manager (http://lustark.com/drumit-manager)

(http://www.lustark.com/images/DKitManager_s.png) (http://lustark.com/drumit-manager)

I'm very glad to announce the release of DrumIt Manager! Thanks to Jman and Teletom007 for testing :)

Requirements

DrumIt Manager includes DKit Manager and DSound Manager.

DKit Manager
(http://www.lustark.com/images/DKitManager.png)
With DKit Manager you can Inspect, edit and make bulk modifications to your .dkit files.

DKit Manager features
DKit Manager evaluation version

Organize your kits

Drag and drop kits in the list.
Select one or several kits to export as single .dkit files.
Import one or several single .dkit files at the current kit position.

Drag and Drop .dsnd and .wav files

.dsnd and .wav files can be dropped from the lists on the left of DKit Manager, but also from a file explorer like Windows Explorer. If the file is not contained in a sub-folder or parent folder relative to the Kit Bank you have opened you will be able to edit settings but won't be able to preview the sound.

Missing files displayed in red

DKit Manager displays missing .dsnd and song files in red.

You can copy and paste .dsnd names between input fields (CTRL+C/CTRL+V) and even revert to the previous value (CTRL+Z).

The particular shade of red used in DKit Manager to mark missing files is the "psychological red" as defined by the Natural Color System.
Natural Color System (NCS) is a proprietary perceptual color model published by the Scandinavian Colour Institute (Skandinaviska Färginstitutet AB) of Stockholm, Sweden.

Layout system

Set up your layout to match your kit. You can manage up to 4 Layouts for up to 4 DrumIt Five modules.

When saving a Kit Bank the current layout number is saved in the .dkit file. The next time you open your Kit Bank DKit Manager will display the correct Layout.

Edit pads and pad names using the editor. The Layout system is compatible with SDSE
When you export a kit with SDSE it will create a .dkit file that matches the last Layout you have selected in DKit Manager.

DSound Manager

Browse or drag and drop one or several .dsnd files, select new settings, click Tune. The new values will be appended to the filenames.

Hi Lustar, I have a question. I downloaded the program and it looks really useful but I have a question so far. I opened one of my saved dkit files and the program is telling me that a tom dsnd (that I know is there) is showing (in red type) as missing. Is this a function of it be a demo version or ?
Thanks, Tony G

Thanks for the kind words tom, Jman and makoki :)

Hi Tony, I'm sending you a PM with a way to make sure about that file.

welshsteve and Drum2, I have good news for you, there may be a way to make a version that works on Mac. It certainly won't have have all features (like drag and drop) but I started looking at it and it's a definite possibility. Another way is to use a small virtual machine with shared folders, there aren't any memory or version requirements so a very light version of XP would work. I couldn't try it but it probably works in vmware fusion in Unity mode, if it does it would be the best way to run it on Mac for now.

Title: How do I load my kit bank from the drumit module
Post by: wildhorse5678 on November 23, 2014, 12:08:44 PM
I have downloaded the software to my PC and attached my Drumit5 module to my PC.
I previously modified the original 100 kits on my module but when open this software the 100 kits show are in the order shown on this topic ie starts with 1 Drumit LIve Kit etc.   How do I load the actual content of MY module rather than this one.

If the kit list is empty you may have an older version of the DrumIt Five OS, before 1.20. I have updated the download on my website to support older versions now.

To see your kits you have to open the DrumIt.dkit file from the module, it contains the kit bank and all unit settings. Click Open, browse to the DrumIt.dkit file. You can also double click on any .dkit file in the Windows Explorer to open it directly with DKit Manager, it works with kit banks and single kits.

Thanks again for pushing the boundaries and adding more options for the 2Box module! I love the addition of the file view for sounds. It makes it so much easier to find the individual instrument sounds. I tested out the Reverb feature of DsoundTuner today. I took a tom from one of my clean kits and added different degrees of reverb ..... Wow, this works great. What a great feature. Since many have mentioned how they wish the Drumit module had a reverb effect choice this is quite an asset for 2Box owners.

My PC problems have been fixed after we identified the RAM had a defect area.

With SDSE I make new conversions from my BFD2 kit and now I'm looking forward creating a brandnew SD-card using DrumIt Manager.

Life is good and mr Lustar contributed to that overall feeling, Chapeaux!  ;D

Hi Lustar!

I think I found a small bug in DKit Manager 1.3.1...and it is íf setting the trigger type to xrim (I did it on the snare rim) on my 2Box unit using the latest OS 1.30, it will show up as the right trigger in DKIT Manager. But If saving the file back again (without doing any changes in the gui) it will show up as trigger type RUBH3 in the 2Box unit or if reopening the file again. This error is also valid if picking the trigger type xpad in which also will give you the RUBH3 trigger setting when saving it in Dkit Manager and then reopening the file in DKit Manager.

Best Regards

A new version of DrumIt Manager is available (http://www.lustark.com/downloads)

DKit Manager 1.4

Copy/Paste menu
Copy one or several pads from one kit to another. Use CTRL+click on the pad buttons to make a selection, right-click on pad buttons to display the Copy/Paste menu.

With this menu you can copy and paste all of the Kit settings from one or several pads to the same kit or to a different kit. It makes it easy to copy some parts of a kit to a different kit without having to replicate all settings. Once the sounds are duplicated on several kits they can be edited all at once using the Multi-Edit.

- Right-click on any pad button on the Kit* and Kit** tabs to open the menu for that pad:
  Copy Kick
Clear Kick (reset pad to default values)
  Select Kick (same as CTRL+click)
  Deselect All
- After copying a pad, right-click on another pad to paste. You can also paste on a different kit.

You can make selections with CTRL in the same way you select files in the Windows Explorer:
- CTRL + left-click on a pad (or "Select" from the right-click menu) to select one or several pads. CTRL + left-click again to deselect.
For multiple selections the copy/paste is done in place, to the same pads. It can be used to copy parts of a kit to a different kit (all toms, all cymbals).

To copy pads from one kit to another:
Select the pads with CTRL+click, right-click on any pad to Copy the selection, select a different kit in the Kit list, right-click on any pad, Paste.

DSound Tuner 1.2

Match feature
Adjust velocities and volumes from a .dsnd using another .dsnd with the same amount of zones/layers as reference.

DKit Manager will now start with the simpler Layout view by default. To start with the detailed Kit view and enable advanced features select Expert in the top/right.
- Expert: start with the detailed Kit view, enable advanced features
- Normal: start with the Layout view, disable advanced features

Check .dsnd files
This version adds a new option to check .dsnd files on the Report page:
"Sounds" to check the sounds used in the Kit Bank
"Sounds (All)" to check all the available .dsnd
The Report can be used to find .dsnd files with bad samples. Multiple hits or cut samples are tagged with "!CHECK" in the report.

A new version of DrumIt Manager is available (http://www.lustark.com/downloads)

It fixes an issue when using the pad Copy/Paste, when using Paste and saving the kit bank without navigating to a different kit first (thanks to Sebastian for the feedback!)
If some of your kits are not recognized on the module open the kit bank with the new version of DKit Manager and click Save.

Pad Copy/Paste
(http://lustark.com/images/DrumItManager/DKitManager_pad_copy-paste.gif)
- copying a kick from kit 1 to kit 2
- copying a tom from tom 3 to tom 4
- copying all toms from kit 1 to kit 2 and kit 3

To copy and paste a pad:
- right-click on any pad button on the Kit* and Kit** tabs to open the pad copy/paste menu
- right-click on another pad to paste.

You can also make selections with CTRL:
- CTRL + left-click on a pad to select it. CTRL + left-click again to deselect.

There is a list of functions you can do with Drumit Mgr. here: http://lustark.com/drumit-manager
There is so much you can do with Drumit Mgr. that you cannot do with the original software.

Hello Drumaster,

It's a good question because it looks similar at first. With DKit Manager you can edit all the settings (all kit and unit settings from the module). It also makes it easier to edit and organize kits. In short, you may not need it now but if you ever need more features it can save a lot of time.

It can be used to easily edit multiple kits at once (to assign the same cowbell to different kits for instance, then edit this cowbell for all selected kits at once) and to copy/paste pads with all their settings. You can delete the kits you don't need from your kit bank (and all associated .dsnd unique to these kits) and delete unused .dsnd from your SD card. If you ever want to connect more pads to your module or to change the order of some pads you can easily adjust your kit bank to swap a pad for all kits (swap cymbal 1 and cymbal 2 for all kits, or move cymbal 2 to tom 4 rim for all kits).

DKit Manager also has free features: you can inspect all the settings from a kit bank and check your kit bank for missing, duplicate and unused .dsnd. You can edit the pad Layout to match your own kit. You can also double click on any .dsnd file in the explorer to get a preview.

Thanks for this explanation Lustar. So far I only use/edit one kit but I have to admit that all those features seem very interesting!

One more question: can we create .dsnd files with it like DrumIt Five Editor does? Or does only SDSE do it?

I have no vst on my computer so I think I don't need SDSE/Reaper but a tool like DrumIt Five Editor/DrumIt Manager (if it allows me to create dsnd) to create dsnd from .wav files I find on internet (free samples or packs I buy for any vst, as long as they are in wav format) right?
Title: Re: DrumIt Manager: kit editor, manage your .dkit, tune your .dsnd files

To create .dsnd files check out DSoundTool (http://www.shortestpath.se/dsoundtool/index.html). DrumIt Manager doesn't create .dsnd files but includes DSound Tuner that can be used to modify existing files. It can enable the "tune up" for existing .dsnd files (to keep the best quality for your dsnd you can create them without "tune up" then use DsoundTuner to create alternate versions that can be tuned up), shorten the samples (to get smaller files or cut noise at the end of samples), or add a bit of reverb. SDSE is meant to export from VSTs but it can also be used to batch convert from .wav to .dsnd.
About free samples and VSTs it's possible to use the free version of SDSE to export the kick, snare and toms from Sennheiser DrumMic'a and the rototoms from Royotoms.

Hi!

I have seen some problems to read my dkit files. Running on DrumIt Manager latest version. I am running 1.3.0.3 OS. The experienced problems is that I can't see fields like the hi-hat calibration etc regardless which dkit file I bring up. Old default...or my own created ones. Running w10. Have a memory modified 2box....and just reads the sd card directly on my computer.

Lustark, have you seen any of these problems? It used to work fine! :-)

Best regards

Hi! Thanks for telling me, I haven't seen that... It works here with DKit Manager 1.4.7c and the 1.30.3 OS. If both Calib fields show 0 it either means that the hats were never calibrated for this kit bank, or that it contains unusual values. So values of 0 would be normal for old default kit banks but not for a kit bank with calibrated hats. Please send me the dkit files by email or PM, I'll check them as soon as possible!

Hello,Every Time i use this program i have to change the echo to flang on every kit . I tried changing this on your software by clicking kit .. then change echo to flang ,then save.no luck.I tried another save method by selecting all kits then change from echo to flang then save.no luck when i try it back in the module,i have to go through every kit and disable that annoying echo.I only have the drumit.Dkit file so i dont save it by mistake to another file. Should i turn the save feature off on the module. Is there a manual on how to use this product thanks

Hi Lustark (Denis!)

I just wanted to send a heads up on the DrumIt Manager and say...what a great product!!!

I did use it to produce some presets for my modules..and the DrumIt Manager saved a lot of time!

Cool that you already adopted it for the new OS!

A new version of DrumIt Manager (https://www.lustark.com/downloads) is available. Thanks to Jman, tsss27 and edcito for testing and for the support.

DSound Tuner has new features and is renamed DSound Manager.

All the base features of the new DSound Manager are free:
Create: build a new .dsnd from .wav
Edit: preview and inspect zones and layers
Extract: extract a .dsnd to .wav
Match: match velocities from one .dsnd to a reference .dsnd

DSound Manager is accessible to the blind and visually impaired, like Dkit Manager and SDSE.

Create
Build a new .dsnd from big .wav files or individual .wav samples. The interface is inspired by DSoundTool, with some options found in the 2box Editor and with more options.
- you can create a .dsnd with up to 128 layers
- Tune option, loop option (like the 2box Editor)
- create a 3 zones snare, or a snare with a velocity switch for the head zone
- hihats can be built with just a edge or bow zone instead of filling all articulations for both
- produces the same velocity values as the 2box Editor
- option to preserve the sample order
- option to maximize (or not) the samples
- option to sort samples by loudness instead of volume

Edit
Preview and edit a .dsnd file. The interface is inspired by DSoundTool, with more options.
- click from left to right on the buttons to hear different layers
- click on the layer buttons to open a layer view
- adjust balance for each zone of a .dsnd (adjust default panning of a cymbal)
- adjust pitch for each zone of a .dsnd (tune a cymbal bell)
- check boxes to select zones (to remove one or several zones from a .dsnd, like removing a tom rim, ride edge, or making a light version of a hihat)
- check boxes to select layers (to easily remove one or several layers from a .dsnd)
- compatible with the newer .dsnd from 2box (to display the zone names)

Just did card mod on my new drumit3. I hesitate for 3 months, to do that. I took the extension cable out of the old drumit5, and put it in new module. It was even easier.
So the question is:
How can i make my fully loaded  32gb cards for old module, playable with new one. I don't want to lose settings. Well i don't want to lose too much time with that, hehe. Is there an easy way to do that?
Title: Re: DrumIt Manager: kit editor, manage your .dkit and .dsnd files

Absolutely, you can easily update the 32 GB card from the old module to use with the DrumIt 3. But first make sure to keep a backup of everything on the computer.
- copy the OS (DrumItOS*.bin and globalconfig.dcfg) from your DrumIt 3 to the 32 GB card. You can delete/replace the previous .bin and .dcfg files.
- open the kit bank from the 32 GB card in DKit Manager (you can double click on it from the explorer)
- on the first Unit page click Import at the bottom and select the kit bank from your DrumIt 3. It will import all your current Unit settings (all pad and module settings)
- click Save in the main menu

It is a great new version! I really like the preview keys and I made some tests with the dsound manager with the velocity switch. I think I could do some new real astonishing things with this function! Also the function with being able to change volume between zones is extremely useful!

In general - if you have not tried the DrumIt Manager - I can highly recommend it - I used it a lot when building kits for 2box MKII...and you get extremely effective and fast with this tool! Only the report part in the app...is worth the money!

You are not better than your tools!

Keep up the great job!

A new version of DrumIt Manager (https://www.lustark.com/downloads) is available.

You can now change the order of layers in dsnd instruments.
This version also adds a menu to edit zones, an easy way to add a tight level to a new or existing hihat dsnd and accessibility improvements when using NVDA.

The idea to duplicate a closed hihat level as a tight level with a different pitch to get two closed levels was originally from the one and only Jman, and Anders suggested it again recently.

Thanks to tsss27 and ANGR77 for testing!

DSound Manager Zone menu
You can right-click on buttons to open a zone menu:
- Duplicate, to be able to edit the new zone before saving. You can duplicate a single percussion zone and adjust its pitch to get an alternate sound on the rim.
- Duplicate (virtual), to save space. You can adjust how a HiHat will play by adding more levels without increasing the file size or changing the HiHat calibration.
- Duplicate Closed as Tight. to create Tight zones from Closed zones in one step.

- Velocity switch from zone 2 to zone 3, to convert a three zones dsnd to a two zones dsnd that turns from a zone to another for the high velocities.
- Velocity switch from zone 3 to zone 2.
The switch percentage is 85% and can be adjusted on the Create page if needed (it uses the last switch setting when selecting Velocity Switch)

- Import (add) to add it as a new zone.
- Import (add foot splash), only for hihats.
- Import (replace) to replace the selected zone.
With Import (add) the zone is added in the same way as with Duplicate, to the available position or to the next position for a HiHat.
The pitch of the imported zone is adjusted to sound the same as in the imported dsnd in case it has a different max tune.

Sort options, can be used to fix or improve layer order. It can also be useful after importing zones from another dsnd to get the same velocity curve for all zones.
- Sort by loudness: sort zone layers by loudness.
- Sort by volume: sort by peak volume.
- Sort by loudness (all): sort all zones by loudness.
- Sort by volume (all): sort all zones by peak volume.

Edit name: type a new name for the selected zone. Zone names are only used for display, they are not used by the module.
Reset names: set all zones to default names based on the type of .dsnd, like Head/Rim for a snare or Bell/Bow/Edge for a cymbal.

DSound Manager, adjust the order of layers
Click on the layer information button on the right of the Edit page to open the detailed layer view for a zone.
Change the order of the layers with drag and drop or with Ctrl+Up or Ctrl+Down.

Changelog:
Duplicate: can be used to add more open levels to a HiHat to adjust how it plays, to add a tight level or to add alternate zones with a different pitch.
Velocity switch: merge the second and third zones, useful to convert a 3 zones dsnd to a 2 zones dsnd that turns from a zone to another for the high velocities.
Import: import a zone from another dsnd, add as a new zone or replace the selected zone.
Sort: sort zone by peak volume or loudness, can be used to fix or improve layer order.
Sort (all): sort all zones by peak volume or loudness, useful after importing zones from another dsnd to get the same velocity curve for all zones.
Edit zone names: rename zones to your liking (zone names are only used for display, they are not used by the module).
Reset zone names: set all zone names to default values (Head/Rim, Bell/Bow/Edge).

This is a great new version! :-)

Jman's old idea, how to create an extra tight hi-hat layer in 2box...got solved within a mouse click in the new version! (It was quite complex to do it manually earlier)

And there are more goodies! Just to upgrade or buy!! Your best tool for 2box!

Big thanks Lustark!

Hi!  I'm a long-time user for SDSE and DrumIt Manager, and think these are both essential products, without which I'm not sure I'd still be using my 2Box, much less considering a second one.

Slight feature request, though.  In Multi edit mode, would it be possible to apply adjustments such as Balance and Decay?  The new default of 10 for Decay is useful, no doubt.  But I find myself dialing most sounds back to infinity.  Would love the ability to change all my kits at once.  Or for another example, pan the 18" crash in all my sets to +4, at once.

Also, I guess it matters only to me, but I've been here since 2010-2011 or longer.  For some reason, the site just made me reregister a few months ago.  Started with ddrum 4 and then jumped on the Drumit 5 when it came out.  (yes, irrelevant. But true!)

Thanks,
Bobby

Hi Bobby,

Thanks for the feedback!

It's a good idea about the multi edit mode, I have sent you a test version with an improved multi edit mode :)
The Multi-edit mode could already be used to adjust the panning, balance or decay in multiple kits at once, but only as long as the pads were set to the same dsnd instrument. In the next version it will also be possible to use the Multi edit mode to change almost all of the Kit values in multiple kits even when the pads are not set to the same dsnd.

Denis, the new functionality works well.  For me - maybe because some of the decay settings were already at infinity and others were at 10 - it worked best to do this in two steps. For example, I first moved all sliders to 9.1, and applied the setting.  Then I moved them all back to infinity and hit Apply.  That worked perfectly.  Without the added step, some of the sliders wouldn't change. Or maybe there was some previous user error.  Either way, I'm happy that this is now so easily accomplished.  Thank you very much for the excellent responsiveness and willingness to continually improve an already wonderful product.

Bobby

Thanks for testing and for the kind words. The added step is the way to go in this case. I should have mentioned it, with the new multi-edit mode the changes are only applied if the new value is different from the default multi-edit value which is based on the first selected kit (except for the dsnd). So if some value from the current kit is already the intended setting to be applied to all the selected kits I would do it in two steps like you did, or change it to something else first before clicking Multi.
