Title: "Update" ETA of new 2Box kits
Post by: cymbalism on February 03, 2013, 06:51:36 AM
Hey everyone. I know many of you have been patiently waiting for me to post an update on an ETA of the new kits. He's what's happening right now. I spoke in great length at NAMM with both Bengt and Paul at Tama and I was told we'll be looking at around May at best before the first shipment from the factory will arrive. The main reason for the delay is because Bengt was still in the process of finalizing the design and production of the new rubber pads at the time Tama took over so it will take some time for manufacturing to catch up. We have the kits up on the site now for pre-order and I would highly recommend anyone interested in one of the new kits that you reserve yours in the near future. I expect the initial shipment to sell out well before arrival.

As some of you have already heard the kits will ship with or without hardware. If ordered with hardware you'll receive the MK2 rack and Tama Iron Cobra 200 single or double pedal, Iron Cobra 200 hihat and 60 series snare stand. As mentioned the kits will ship with the new rubber heads which feel and perform extremely well. I was very impressed with the way they felt. As good as the mesh if not better. Of course if you'd like mesh heads heads instead I can arrange to have a set sent separately.

I will be keeping very close tabs on any changes that might arise and will post right away if I hear.

Please contact me if you anyone has other questions or would like to get a kit on order. I do still have just one module available for anyone interested.

Thanks guys, Scott

though it doesnt concern me , as i am in europe, it is great to know that all will go perfect for 2box us distribution soon. thanx for the update.

since you tested the rubber hears can i ask you something? how do they compare with the mesh heads, noise-level wise? are they louder than playing just with mesh heads? and how much louder?

i am thinking of trying the rubber heads for the toms and kick. certainly id give the kick a try. does the kick with rubber head feel closer to the real thing? imanaged to get a very close to reality feel in my snare, with my drum tech design, snare mesh head being as tight as it gets, and dont think i will ever change it, it is like a real snare, but id like to experiment with toms and kick. but if the toms are way too loud, id pass. does the rubber kick make the beater not bounce that much? i havemanaged to eliminate that with the cloth i put in the kick pad as most of you now, but i surely would like to explore a second option. thank you. (also perhaps double mesh head with rubber could also be very veryideal but i dunno and perhaps noone has tried that yet)

Yes it's exiting to see Tama now involved. We'll now see much wider distribution and easier access to parts and customer service.

As for the rubber heads I can tell you they are very quiet. At least as quiet as the mesh if not more. They have a more natural feel with less bounce then the mesh as well. They are designed similar to a Mylar head with a thinner rubber head surface and a plastic type "disc" infused to the bottom of the head to give stiffness and absorb access bounce. 2Box has also designed as least 2 different heads for rack toms and floor toms. The rack tom head has a tighter firmer feel to emulate the response of an actual 10" and the floor tom has looser feel to replicate a larger floor tom head. They both feel great.

As for the way they respond I would say they are just as good as the mesh if not better. Very sensitive and responsive.

The kick head has a nice firm feel and minimal bounce. It also triggers very well.

I think Bengt has done an amazing job designing a completely new type of head for the 2Box and of course if you don't like the rubber head you can always swap them out for mesh.

Thanks guys,
Scott

I have been anxiously awaiting your update, Scott. That's great news! I hate that we have to wait until May but all good things come to those that wait, right? I WILL be buying the rest of the 2Box kit from you. Which by the way, to those of us who already own the module, will there be a package available for 2Box Pad Sets and Cymbals? When you get some stock in, please post up and let us know. I'll be ordering my stuff from you since Cymbalism Music simply rocks!
For anyone else in the United States interested in buying a 2Box kit, Go to Cymbalism Music. I bought my module from them and it shipped fast and arrived in perfect condition. Plus, they are very responsive to customer inquiries. As a guy who has owned just about all the E-Drum kits on the market in the past 30 years, 2Box rates in my top 2 fave of all time. Open Source is the wave of the future.

Hi Scott,

Depending on the availability for the Euro-2Boxers I'm interested in a 14-inch rubber head and the Tama samples. :)  :D  I do hope 2Box will update their website soon.

Any news on the OS upgrade? 1.26 is still not official!  :patbat2box:

Hi Sandman, Thanks for the kudos I really appreciate it. I'm not sure yet about ordering individual pads but I'm sure it will be possible. Tama will be ordering in a large quantity so I'm sure parts will be available.

I don't think anything will be available from 2Box until around May. That's when the first shipments start coming in from Sweden. If I hear anything else I'll let you know.

So besides the rubber heads and the option of Tama hardware is there any difference between the "new" sets and the ones available now?

No kits will be the same. Just the hardware upgrade and possibly some special Tama sounds loaded to the module.
